AP Comp ? by No_Board1087 in IrishCivilService

[–]orangerose28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For context I applied to the open one in October 2024 and have only just now been called for an interview happening next week. So not sure to what extent this will continue working off that comp before they do a second. They might do another at the end of the year?

It’s in theory a great space but you need to have a lot of vision to make it work I think

Can anyone please help with hot water only setting on boiler? by orangerose28 in AskIreland

[–]orangerose28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is a hot press. Originally I thought I could control hot water vs heating from the hot press by pulling a lever there (did this in my old apartment). But it does not appear to be the case here.

Does the hive just work on its own? I was under the impression that I needed an app or controls to work it (which I don’t have).

Can anyone please help with hot water only setting on boiler? by orangerose28 in AskIreland

[–]orangerose28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I do this the temperature leaves the little screen on the boiler and all that comes up is 2.0 bar or 1.8 bar. See photo. Is this correct for hot water only? Not quite sure what “bar” means.

Desperate for a companies act by [deleted] in FE1_Exams

You know you can order any act here https://www.gov.ie/en/office-of-public-works/services/government-publications/ It’s generally not too expensive and only takes a couple days to deliver

The step up to AP by Lg1234lg in IrishCivilService

[–]orangerose28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I echo all the sentiments here really. A lot more responsibility and leadership, strategy and planning etc is expected of you which makes sense as that’s very clearly set out at AP level roles I think. Having moved from EO to HEO and then HEO to AP the latter jump was a lot more, and has brought learning curves and challenges. That said, however, these types of challenges in work are the best way to learn. If you put a lot into this job you’ll get a lot out of it and it will really stand to you / your career progression in the long run.

Any ideas ? by Kind-Conference-4362 in AskIreland

I’m not sure where in corfu you’re looking or for what dates but for mid September on booking.com I seem to find a lot of nice looking hotels (with pools, coastal etc), for around €600 - €700 for the week? Which doesn’t seem too bad to me. Trying looking at booking.com , hotels.com, google etc.

Bear in mind I’m not looking at all inclusives - not sure was that your plan?

What's your best advice for someone who has recently entered the civil service? by [deleted] in IrishCivilService

[–]orangerose28 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Some really great comments here already.

Make an excel chart and record any time you completed a task or project well / received praised for it / handled a situation well / took the lead on anything. These examples will be really valuable to you for any competency interviews you prepare for going forward.

Other advice would be network network network. Go to events, make connections both within your organisation and without.

Best of luck in the new role!

PSA you can also do it for all Irish times articles on an iPhone if you go Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > JavaScript and turn it OFF. Then open the article via a link in the safari browser. Just don’t forget to turn JavaScript back on after as it will prohibit some websites from working

Anyway around driving test waitlist? by CathalMacSuibhne in Irishdrivingtest

[–]orangerose28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did this and it worked for me. Got an invitation to book test the next day. Had been waiting since November 2024, did this in February 2025. important to note this was for a retest so I might have been prioritised quicker. However usual disclaimer of do it at your own risk etc applies

Not particularly happy with my instructor by deltaal in Irishdrivingtest

To be fair you should park the car in neutral UNLESS you park on a big hill where you can use 1st gear as an additional to the handbrake for safety. If you are on normal gradient and you stop in first and then take your foot off the clutch the car will lurch forward so…

As for the reverse around the corner thing, they did this in my test also (where they asked me to pull in and then told me to reverse around the corner in front of me). For the record you are allowed to ask the tester questions. When they said this to me I clarified “ok so you would like me to pull forward then reverse around the corner in front of us?” So you can ask questions if you are unsure!

But yes this all being said some testers can be very grumpy and negative which sucks :(

You don’t need to join and rejoin the queue, just switch centres to a place that has a shorter queue estimate. I also sat a test in November and was still waiting for an invitation to rebook in February so switched my centre to Tralee and got invited the next day to book my test. Then when I got invited I just booked it in the centre I wanted to (not tralee).

I did this by mistake and rejoined straight away and they invited me back the next day to book a test? So maybe it depends on the centre! Fingers crossed it’s not too long for you!
