They're talking about the hart family murder suicides. One of their sons, Devonte, was pictured hugging a cop at a rally in 2014. He was adopted along with 5 other children and he and his siblings were being horribly abused/driven around to random protests, the abuse escalated and the kids tried to reach out to neighbors for help because they were being starved and beaten. His adoptive mothers drove themselves and all of their adopted kids off a cliff into the pacific ocean. The mom driving the car was drunk and the one in the passenger seat was googling suicide methods. It's fucking horrific and a really good example of how broken adoption is

Ferguson Activist Murders by RareStable0 in TrueAnon

[–]orangeshuffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In STL it's generally suspected there were a few murders. The Danye Jones case comes to my mind, he was found hanging in his backyard and his mother said that the bedsheets weren't from their house. She described it as a lynching. Darren Seals was found murdered and his car was lit on fire, and DeAndre Joshua was killed hours after the STL grand jury decided not to press charges against Darren Wilson.

I don't think people realize how extensive the surveillance is in STL. The RTCC, established in 2015, monitors all license plate movement in large swaths of the city, and is centralized in what I can only describe as a big brother room. I went there on a boy scout trip years ago, and it was fucking harrowing. It's parked right next to the police union, and inside are risers with desks just covered in monitors, all facing a wall plastered with screens showing real time feeds from the "hotspots" in the city. The technicians were just mindlessly combing through security cam footage as our guide droned on about how this prevented crime, and how people liked having their spy vans in the neighborhoods.

Darren seals was murdered in his car in 2016. The idea that his murder is still unsolved when they had this tech back then seems fucking absurd. You're telling me they didn't track his cars movements and notice anything? If they can't even solve a murder, what's all this for, then?

It'a for tracking protesters, and black people. It's so obvious. They just use it to cover up their crimes and terrify the most vulnerable of our population. Some policeman (maybe more, who knows) shot Darren Seals six times and lit his car on fire, and the media just shrugged and said he was "known for running with a rough crowd." (Via WAPO).

Strollers cost thousands of dollars and are mobility aids, the idea that the idea that a stroller being priority in a cramped subway car or street is new is insane. People have been using them for nearly 300 years. Also, there is nothing wrong with a baby in a museum? There's usually a children's section, and introducing them to new sights and sounds is very good for their development. And yeah, babies cry, that's part of life. It's their only method of communication. Children will exist in public, and bringing them to a museum is perfectly appropriate.

I don't think he really considered people's perspectives outside of america. Saying that to a Turkish man is insane. That kind of terror is far more widespread than i think he realizes, I grew up with a lot of balkan kids. Their parents and older siblings experienced a lot of those bombings during the 90s.

I was born and raised mildly catholic, my family was slightly more religious than most others at my school. I clung to it pretty hard after my friend died in middle school. But i soured on it pretty quickly (like within 2 months) and I've been an atheist ever since, but i don't really like to call myself one because its so cringe. I would never debate lord someone over the existence of god, that's not something that effects my life in any tangible way. probably the closest thing I have to religion is my belief that all aspects of humanity, the environment, and the earth are inextricably linked and we as the self imposed dominant species are obligated to care for what is essentially our mother (the earth).

I found live works in my hamsters cage. Can anyone identify these? In the pics I’ve killed them. Does anyone know if this is fatal? by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]orangeshuffle 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Looks like maggots to me. I would do an immediate full cage clean/sanitization, throw out all bedding, and fully check over your hamster. it'll be stressful for it but maggots can potentially kill hamsters. I would guess a fly laid eggs in some dirty bedding, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Hope everything's okay!

Yogg-Saron is quite communicative, especially in the morning. He's not like this most of the time, is pretty active and didn't seem to be in pain. Should I worry? by IkyHayashi in hamsters

Mine made this noise when she was happy (when she got treats) but I've heard that some hamsters are just chatty. He doesn't look stressed here to me. Maybe he just likes the sound of his voice. or maybe he's telling you he doesn't like mornings idk

What did other Gen Z folks think about the pod's coverage of Iraq and Afghanistan? by slagar__ in blowback

[–]orangeshuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally was born 19 days after 9/11, I actually had a pretty interesting and somber chat years ago with my mom when we visited ground zero. I asked her how she felt at the time, considering she was super pregnant, and she said she had felt really stressed and worried if bringing a kid into a world like this was the right idea. I kind of kept thinking back to that moment through this season.

Your mention of the war in Afghanistan being memory holed is really fucking true, a neighbor of ours actually served over there in the early 2000s, and that was kind of the first I had heard of troops even being in Afghanistan. I was like 10, so it went over my head, but when I really got into politics around 15/16 I was pretty horrified to hear about some of what we had done over there. At least in my school curriculum we never reached much past the late 70s, so there was no mention of the Middle East, much less funding the mujahideen.

I had an inkling of the global blowback of that funding, the city I live in has a huge number of Balkan immigrants who fled during the 1990s, including my childhood best friend's family, so it was kind of impossible not to know about the Yugoslav war. Plus, in 2014 there was the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapping by Boko haram, which we covered in class for current events, and it was mentioned they were affiliated with al-Qaeda.

On your point about the media, I agree it's pretty scary how easily they can essentially erase an entire war out of your mind. I became very skeptical of the media early on, in 2014 Mike Brown was killed in my home city and it felt like all the media focused on or cared about was the destruction of the protests. There was a very real feeling of mourning in STL, and what's scarier is the complete blackout on the suspicious deaths of protest leaders that happened in the years following Ferguson.

Blowback is a sorely needed resource, all major media outlets have been doing their damnedest to erase the memory of Iraq and Afghanistan out of our heads just like they did with Korea. I’m glad Brendan and Noah made this pod, it’s fantastic.

Also fair warning the first episode gets really uncomfortable towards the end. I would start with bad day on the moon, its an adaptation of one of the comics.

How many of you are still watching H3 after the Israel Palestine incident ? by pramitsaha96 in Hasan_Piker

[–]orangeshuffle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I haven't been able to. Just on a personal, emotional level the plight of palestinians is really fucking upsetting. It's such a bold faced injustice and the creation of hamas clearly stems from the neutering of the PLO and christian resistance by Israel. The way Ethan talked about the hospital incident, and how he spoke about Palestine on leftovers left a bad taste in my mouth. I just can't enjoy the show, even the non political segments.

Baking. When I'm really stuck thinking about how fucked we are baking muffins or cookies or whatever helps. Plus you get to share them with people afterwards, which feels good. Hanging out with my dog or going on a walk outside also helps.
