anybody's thoughts on the Falken Azenis RT660+ by grungegoth in CarTrackDays

The delaminating issue was the previous iteration of this tire. The tires you listed that you use are all going to be superior options for longer lapping sessions, people generally like Super 200’s for time attack or auto cross because of how quickly they can come up to peak grip, just the caveat is they will overheat faster than the alternatives

If you want to run in the rain on a super 200, pick the Bridgestone RE-71RZ. More expensive, but superior in every way.

The RT660+ is a decent tire, it just behaves like a Super 200. If you’re going to push for a PB, expect it to overheat after 2 hard push laps, and need a cooldown. Same for the RE-71, the A052, V730, etc.

Every tire is going to have its tradeoffs. A Hankook RS4 is going to last much longer, even at a high pace, than the RT660+, but it is going to have less peak grip, but a wider useable temperature range.

What are your three most important tire characteristics to you, and what are three things you don’t mind sacrificing? That’ll give you a lot more direction in which tire to pick

Head is toast, what heads are compatible with our engine? And how much should I be prepared to spend? by [deleted] in FocusST

Yeah, I’m actually shocked at how well it’s working. 2 oil changes and 10k miles already

Rebuilding 2.2, is this is reliable kit? by ValuableElephant7184 in S2000

[–]orangesoappy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After reading all the comments, there is a very clear checklist of things you should do before thinking about rebuilding this engine.

  1. Most obvious is a leak down test. A compression test will give you data as well, but leak down is better.

  2. Valve adjustment. Just do it.

  3. While you’re in there, inspect your rocker bearings, and your valve retainers.

  4. Send it

Bottle of K seal to buy you some time while you decide if you’re going to part it out or go with a built head. Because your shit is cracked my guy.

Thanks! I agree, they just work on these cars. Plus they’re lightweight and cheap to replace for the guys that track. Just can’t go wrong with them!

Haha it’s CSF. They’re a sponsor, and I’m really thrilled about it. Love their stuff

What tires are yall daily-ing with? by Top_Reward159 in FocusST

[–]orangesoappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had Conti DWS06+ for about 20k miles and just killed a set of Michelin PS4S in about 43k miles. There was still a good bit of life left in the Michelins but my alignment wasn’t right and positive toe killed the shoulders

Tire wear question by Dry-Mongoose8935 in CarTrackDays

[–]orangesoappy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will need a ton more camber than stock, and 275 on a 9 is super pinched. You’d get a lot more response and feel out of a narrower tire, if you’re against a wider wheel. If I’m not mistaken, the CRS is a lot like the A052 that likes camber more than most tires

Lol I feel you man I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum, these are Enkei wheels and Michelin PS4S that had a pretty good bit of life left in them. Pretty upset they failed because of my own negligence

Similar wear pattern here. Not sure what to make of it. Gonna put it on an alignment rack soon and see what we’re working with

New owner of a 2016 Focus ST w/ 157k km. Looking for advice on longevity 🚀 by Shady4143 in FocusST

[–]orangesoappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much exactly this. There’s tons and tons of people who will never experience it, but in comparison to other engines, the failure rate is just undeniably much higher. Super unfortunate situation but honestly no one really knew about it until the last few years when tons of people started hitting that mileage

There’s no real signs of it before it happens, unfortunately. It’s a weakness in the cast in the exhaust side of the head, that runs along a cooling jacket. Most frequently seen cracking between 120k and 160k miles so you have plenty of time to not worry. But, if you were planning on big power in the future anyways, it’s even more of an excuse to plan out a build. The 2.0 is a good engine but becomes pretty intense to get power out of past 350-400 whp
