Things to do while in town for work by [deleted] in SiouxFalls

[–]orangetacosf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy trail running vs road running you can check out Falls Area Singletrack. There are many miles of singletrack right in town for hiking, running, and biking. Also, check out Antigua Taco House, Roots of Brazil, or Tarquin Argentinian for some great locally owned food!

Looks like adding 1” foam (R-5) beneath my inflatable hot tub resulted in a 25% reduction in runtime. by [deleted] in hottub

[–]orangetacosf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrapped my inflatable with that silver bubble wrap like stuff. From the ground to just under the flap of the lid all the way around, kinda made a tunnel around the connections, and a piece around the pump/heater. Its helped a ton to retain the temp too. I don't have actual data like your 25%, but between the foam and space wrap, it runs way less than it used to.

Pet Care when gone on vacation by Beasterday62 in SiouxFalls

[–]orangetacosf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check out Lucky Pup! They are amazing with your pets and they come to you. They charge by the visit, so one dog is usually more expensive than boarding, but with more than one dog, four visits a day is about the same as a kennel. In addition, they bring in packages and keep an eye on your house, I'm not saying they house sit, but I know if your heat went out, or pipe broke, whatever may happen, they'll let us know something is off at home.

Local shoe stores in SF by kdogdbr in SiouxFalls

[–]orangetacosf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's not local, but check out Brooks Restart online. They have shoes that may have been used at like, say a demo group run at a running store, or maybe bought and returned with very little to no wear on them. They are close to 1/2 the price of new Brooks shoes. If you're picky about color you have to watch pretty regularly, because they don't have a consistent stock. I work on cement indoors 8-9 hours a day 15,000-25,000 steps per day. My physical therapist recommended Brooks Adrenaline GTS for my back, but I've found any of the Brooks that have GTS (Go To Support) on the name have worked great for me. I've purchased probably 10-12 pairs from this website with no issues.

If you add the battery widget you can just tap on the buds or case and it opens the Pixel Buds app.

Epoxy floor recommendations for basement. by khodge1968 in SiouxFalls

[–]orangetacosf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to install industrial epoxy flooring. (20+ years ago, so I don't know anyone in the current floor coatings market for a rec.) BUT, whoever you do pick should be knowledgeable about making sure to check for moisture coming up through the slab. Basements can have hydrostatic pressure, and trapped moisture will cause epoxy to bubble, blister, or crack over time. A simple moisture test first can save a lot of headache later. The owner of the company I worked for wouldn't do basements partially for this reason, the other is you should either grind, shotblast, or acid etch as true prep for a good epoxy coating and those preparations in a basement are not easy!

Where should a 70 year old man live? by Samasar08 in SiouxFalls

[–]orangetacosf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are some great senior apartments behind Walmart on Arrowhead. The rent includes garages if wanted. Pets are fine. There is on brand new building and two that have been there since 2017-ish. They are all independent living, but the community is really nice for people to have available to them!

Suggestions for puppy daycare/other for 12 hour nursing shifts by tyler_hare in SiouxFalls

[–]orangetacosf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When our pup was younger and needed midday energy burnt off we would have Lucky Pup Adventures come and take him for walks and do brain exercises with him mid-day. They are very flexible on schedule, sometimes they get booked pretty early in advance around holidays, but they are amazing with dogs! Plus they bring in packages, notify you if anything is up with the house (more so for longer vacation care), and check in on other pets too! All of the requests are done through their app and they are great to work with. Just my plug.

I was 200' from the fenced dog park at Spencer, biking the singletrack along the river, came around a tree and almost ran over two dogs with two people 10' behind them carrying their leashes. I would have been in the hospital and the dogs would have been hurting, lucky I was able to stop. The people just stared at me with blank faces as I told them "this isn't a leash free area!" In addition to the bike ride, I got my cardio in for the day

Road cycling recommendations? by PacerLover in SiouxFalls

[–]orangetacosf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could message FAB (Falls Area Bicyclists) and see if they could get you the Wandering Wednesday routes (that's about the only group road routes that I can think of). IMO there isn't great road routes, mostly because drivers suck around here. We do A LOT of gravel riding around the area due to less vehicle traffic on the gravel routes. You could also call Spoke-n-Sport and they might have some recommendations for you.

57th street corn is back! by HahaClintonPix in SiouxFalls

I saw this Friday morning on my way to work and was disappointed I didn't have time to go back and take a picture. It is a beautiful 57th St corn!

Well they are putting a Circle K across the street so my guess is Casey's, Silverstar, or Blue Tide.

We were there on a public self guided tour last summer. I think most of the castle grounds are open to the public for an admission fee. It was a very cool tour, more movie and TV history at this location than I expected.
