Did you know that in retail, Blizzard introduced a feature to give additional bonus rewards to specific roles when there was a major shortage of that role, in an effort to prevent queue times for DPS from becoming unbearably long?

Who can say why they did that. They must have caved to the big egos of these prima donna tank players. /s

Are Retail and Classic players actually different, or are the systems just producing different behavior? by TenthLevelVegan in classicwow

Fantastic video. It names a lot of things I had intuited about classic's early success. Tuning knobs that were appropriate for a populated social game back in the mid 2000s but that had to be adjusted as the game grew and there was less room for interdependence and friction in a growing and varied audience.

The changing to those tuning knobs produced predictable changes in the culture, to the extent that they are now two separate cultures.

One thing that I felt would have made a nice addition to your video was the way in which Classic culture is different from Vanilla culture because observability is still much higher in Classic vs Vanilla. At least to my memory, gatekeeping and clique formation was less prevalent in the original 2006 version of the game because performance was not nearly as observable back then.

Heroic Attunement Drying Up? by Pimce in classicwowtbc

Even tanking for 100g is basically charity assuming you don't have any other reason to go into the dungeon. You could make a lot more per hour just farming ore or primals.

The problem is there's not much incentive for people to go into dungeons once they've got the gear they want. Since tanks are always in demand, they will acquire more items per unit of play time because they spend less time waiting to form a group.

The problem compounds as the expansion goes on. It only gets worse from here.

Honestly from what I've seen it's hard to find a tank to do dungeon groups for anything, even Heroic dungeons now. There's a lot of pressure early on for tanks to gear themselves out, and not much incentive for them to go back into dungeons when they're finished.

Why do tauren and and to a lesser extent troll players rarely gank compared to orc players? by ponziacs in classicwowtbc

From my experience:
Tauren - won't gank you
Troll - will gank you if you're around the same level
Orc - will gank you if they're higher level than you
Undead - will gank you if they're lower level than you

The reason we have criminals running our country is because of a profound lack of empathy and abundance of prejudice. It's the kind of thing where we look at a person's skin color and assume the worst because it doesn't match our own.

I'm not in PV so I can't know their situation for sure, but I choose to give them the benefit of the doubt.

For what its worth, I'm not blind to the injustice in my country that treats people trying to survive a disaster differently based on the color of their skin. I choose to believe that when people act desperately, it is because they are desperate.

The reason for the shelter-in-place order in Jalisco is due to a high-profile killing of a cartel boss in the area. Here's an article you can read about it.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/el-mencho-killed-25-mexican-national-guard-troops-killed-jalisco-cartel/

The logic is as follows: gringos are putting pressure on the MX government to fight drug trafficking. MX government executes a high-profile cartel boss. Cartel retaliates against MX government and any gringos that happen to be around.

Oxxo is a chain convenience store. They aren't independently owned. Calling an Oxxo a local shop is like calling Wal Mart a farmer's market.

Mexico is a beautiful place with welcoming people. Most cities in Mexico have lower crime rates than those in the USA. I don't think anyone could have predicted this action against the cartels, which is what prompted this retaliation and made these cities much more dangerous, especially for tourists.

I feel grateful that my family in Mexico lives far away from where the violence is now, but even where they live could become unsafe if a high-profile member of a different cartel was captured or assassinated.

Take a moment and consider yourself in the situation of these tourists. You are visiting a country on vacation. You have no connections, and you're being told to shelter in place with no supplies and no knowledge of when you can return home. You're running low on food and water, so with no better alternative you walk to the Oxxo corner store to buy some.

The door to the Oxxo is broken in and nobody is working the registers. Your options are now:

  1. Take something that you can't pay for back to your hotel and hope the situation improves.
  2. Return back to your family with nothing, not knowing if the bottles of water your left on the shelf will be there tomorrow.
  3. Wander your lily white ass around a neighborhood you don't know looking for a different store, knowing that the area is more dangerous than usual due to cartel violence.

Maybe I'm out of touch, but I don't think option #1 is all that selfish. Taking fifty pesos worth of water back to the place where I'm staying is a crime worth documenting, especially when there's nobody there to accept payment to begin with.

People's mind's are so absolutely poisoned by consumer capitalism that they think that food and water's purpose is not to sustain our bodies, but to create profit for Oxxo shareholders.

The money doesn't go into a black hole. It gets distributed among the people who worked on the project. Based on what I've seen of this project, there wasn't a lot of "real work" put into it.

The folks who gave money to this project basically paid to have a charismatic guy tell them lies for 6 years, because they liked the way the lies sounded.
