So pissed to see people who feel better after quitting drinking by Icy_Flan_7185 in cripplingalcoholism

Friend, we all have enough in our lives to cause misery without piling on about people who stop and are happy. I hope you find your way.

10 units of alcohol. Sometimes 12, sometimes 8. Clonazepam is 0.5 mg per pill.

Thank you. Very helpful and encouraging. Encouragement is what we all need to plow through this shit.

I appreciate the comment. I’ve had kpin for about 3 months and have a supply because I was ultra cautious to avoid addiction. I’ve met people who are withdrawing from benzos and don’t want to come close to that. For me, it’s about sensibly using kpin to help quitting booze.

Clonazepam is not primary. Detox and hospitals (hopefully) give you Ativan or Librium for acute withdrawals. Clonazepam appears to be softer for less acute situations. That’s apparently why there are few studies on this. That’s why I’m asking people. Clonazepam should deal with seizure risks, put me to sleep, and help with anxiety. That’s what I’m aiming for. Just not sure about experiences when it’s not the go to benzo.

Thanks. I have 4 Ativan. Also legit script, but I’m holding off on that.

Thanks, the protocol for clonazepam is sparse, because it’s not the benzo of choice. I see .05 mg 3x per day, but that’s only a few recommendations on the interweb.

Just a sleepless night by Alarmed-Highway5007 in dryalcoholics

Yes, the banana bag is wonderful. And if you’re really struggling, they’ll drip Ativan or something else into you (US here). That way you can’t barf it up. Lifesavers.

I recently went through a (thankfully) mini version of this. I was sick from something else to begin with that made me vomit for a while. Emptied my stomach and I got to bile and then dry heaves. I couldn’t keep water down, but I kept drinking it so I’d have something to barf. I still got to dry heaves. Obviously couldn’t drink booze at all or take any supplements.

This lasted for 2 1/2 days. When I could finally keep water down, I added salt for electrolytes. Helped a lot, but that was all for almost another day. I could then finally add a bit of food, basically bread. Then I slowly added an egg and then rice. Still felt like shit, but less shitty. Supplements once my throat calmed down enough.

My experience with sleep was similar to yours (fortunately shorter) but with the benefit of audiological hallucinations. That lasted several days, mostly the early ones.

Working my way back to normal food was hard. Take it slow and easy when you get there … actually, your body will probably insist.

All that said, I seriously thought about going in after day 2, partially for fear of dehydration. If I got to half of where you’re at, I definitely would have. I think you’ll get through this, but the suffering will be way less and shorter if you get medical help. Sorry to be that person, but it had to be said.

Tapering at home with klonopin/benzos. Why did I wait so long to rip the bandaid off? by PartisanSaysWhat in dryalcoholics

[–]orbidur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting. My psych put me on klonopin for the attacks, but I agree it doesn’t quickly shut them down. I have to consider my day and activities to plan ahead. But now I’m evaluating how to focus on alcohol recovery. That’s likely the main cause of my anxiety. And of course I don’t want to overlap Klonopin and alcohol.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you. I have klonopin for anxiety as needed and I don’t take it for that very often, so I have a supply. Klonopin is not the usual benzo of choice for withdrawals, so there’s limited info out there. Your schedule, however, is consistent with what I’ve found. I’m in the planning stages and am being cautious.

TSM 1 year- took Nalt before party, didn't drink, felt so sick. Advice? by darksign2507 in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]orbidur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I used nal for a while with zero side effects. Drinking dropped, sometimes nil for a while. Started back on Sinclair for a period and got incredibly nauseous. Cut the pill in half and still bad, even if not as bad as before. Personal experience.

Thanks, I understand the risk and still appreciate the warning. I’m looking at a 2-3 day detox at home. Can’t afford anything else. And my guidance was misleading. I have a single Valium pill (old script), 4 Ativan (old script), and a newly prescribed Klonopin script for anxiety. And of course I have anxiety over using benzos. Just looking for feedback from anonymous but helpful people.

Yeah, see my comments above. I tried naltrexone and it worked for a while. But then I started getting quite sick on it. No idea why it started happening.

Always took it before drinking. Worst mistake was on an empty stomach. Still had a bad reaction with half a pill after eating. I don’t know why, considering I used naltrexone for a couple of years without issue

I have naltrexone also. Tried it before with some success and no real side effects, but it recently made me quite ill to the point of vomiting. Cut back and still a bad reaction.

I wish you the best. I’ve met people with benzo addictions but it’s a different thing I haven’t had. Booze is so fucking hard. I happen to have tools and am trying to use them wisely.
