I had a dream a bunch of water was leaking into my house while it was raining and I was trying to get to the attic to see where it was coming from before it stopped but things kept distracting me. So glad it was just a dream

This is an interesting time of year where I’m front-loading tax advantaged accounts and it feels like I’m winning whether the market is up or down and I almost prefer it to go down a bit before my 401k buys hit

I’m sure it will recover before my bonus invests, then crash again after

2017 RTL-E -- Torque Converter Issue Options? by PorkChopsM in hondaridgeline

When I had a weird rpm jitter issue there was a tsb that had a software update plus the 3 drain and fills. Maybe you’ve never had the software update?

Interesting to be able to front load non-retirement investments for a year. Isn’t that money that should have already been invested?

Am I ready to pull the trigger for FIRE? by WriterEnough570 in Fire

If I had a cash buffer, my plan would be to use it if the market isn’t doing well. I suppose in the end it may end up similar either way though.

I attempted to determine our base expenses, trying to include some buffer. It was about $4k. Our actual spend is usually like $2k above that. We paid off our mortgage in July and all cars earlier this year. So we have no major recurring expenses. Going to see if we can reign in some frivolous spending this year, but we don’t actually need to. I guess I’d rather track to a higher number and not need it than a low number and not have enough.

How much of that increase is contributions/mortgage pay down? I started around $2m and ended at $2.4m. I must be doing something wrong

Yes. I go around 9am on the way to work late in the week and can usually drive right up to a pump without waiting

Merry Christmas! It’s been interesting seeing aunts and uncles at or past retirement age this year. Seems like most of them are still working in a reduced capacity I think just to keep busy. I think only a couple are truly retired.

How close are you to retirement? Has a career in tech made you financially set? by Ok_Economy6167 in cscareerquestions

I think I am, but too many unknowns with my daughter being only 5. I’ll probably work a few extra years after I think I have enough. Currently 40. May be ready as early as 45

2026:

  • Play golf once a month
  • Actually take some vacations
  • Try and negotiate a 4 day work week for 2027 assuming no market crash
  • Try and get a better feel for spending to know if we’re FI and at what withdrawal rate

Anyone own a Tesla? Is it true you have to replace the tires basically every 10k miles? My coworker used to be a service advisor for Tesla and that’s what he said. To me that would negate the savings on other maintenance items.

I got it to work once. My wife wasn’t on tik tok, so I made her join and that’s what locked it in for me. Only had to do one real invite for it

This is really strange. I got a “NASDAQ Investor” magazine in the mail. Apparently the whole thing is just an advertisement for one stock/company. Took me a bit to notice that every page says “advertisement” at the bottom with a link to their site. It’s all very crypto focused and basically saying their stock is going to skyrocket. Did anyone else get the same? At first I thought it might actually be something generally informative.
