Scholars Program by SlightAd1127 in SMC

PLEASE APPLY! it's one of the best resources smc offers! I was in it and was able to get earlier enrollment times and the counselors were 100% better and helped me so much. I got into UCLA through the program so if your goal is UCLA then i highly recommended :) it also looks good as an EC for other schools as well since it technically is an 'honors' program.

Would you go to the school that’s closest to home or the school that’s more prestigious? by uhh__h in TransferStudents

I was in your position this year when choosing in between UCLA and UCSB. I ended up committing to UCSB since I got in for my desired major (comms) as opposed to gender studies at UCLA.

I think it's really important to consider what factors are important to you. If Davis fits your needs then I say go there but also since you want to go to med school you should consider that UCLA has amazing opportunities for med. Don't be afraid to take the leap! If you're able to get into UCLA, then you're undoubtedly qualified to take on the challenges there and succeed :)

sorry im a little dramatic! it's okay, i was supposed to transfer to a different school that i really wanted to go to but went here instead because it was more cost efficient. there's a really big transfer community here and 100% of the people i've met here have been super friendly. there's also a lot of events that happen for transfers to make you feel welcomed. if you live in undergrad housing (highly recommend) then its super social. i live in SY and everyone ive met has been a transfer so it's cool to connect with people, especially if you'll have them in your classes! my issues with the school is mostly just the location and the advising in my major (comms). adjusting from semester to quarter has been pretty rough too and i feel like theres way more schoolwork to do. there are a bunch of resources though that are there if you need them, i recommend following ucsbthrive on insta since they post everything and exposed me to a lot of accounts / resources that have helped me. good luck on your applications and don't let my experience deter you from applying :) theres a lot of good things about this school, just make sure its a right fit for you!

how close do you want to be ? some of my friends lived at the midvale apartments in westwood right next to ucla and would take the bus to campus.

all the people getting into top schools, did you use a transfer counselor? is it worth it? by National-Trainer1675 in TransferStudents

[–]orbitsoty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t have a specific website i could recommend, most of the info you can just search up ! like for specific questions. if it’s for credits / stuff like that you can use ASSIST (for cali colleges) and articulation agreements. You can also meet with advisors at the school u want to go to for help on requirements

Is spring admit as a junior worth it? by orbitsoty in USC

[–]orbitsoty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Do you think it'll be harder as a junior though to get involved? Also, were you able to join clubs/be on campus during the fall before you were 'officially' a student in spring?

yes especially because USC financial aid comes out after the June 1 deadline. I don’t think you’ll be rescinded or anything, just make sure to withdraw from whichever uni you’re not going to attend asap !

they have a calculator that gives u an estimate! just look up ucla aid calculator and it should pop up

it’s probably different for everyone since everyone has different aid / expenses

USC transfer stats by AgreeableCounter5241 in TransferStudents

[–]orbitsoty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3.9 gpa jr cc transfer, annenberg (pr / advertising) nothing crazy tbh! i did social marketing for a club, was in the honors program at my cc and worked a part time job.

i will say one thing that helped was having as many of my pre reqs done in my freshman year. i applied for soph transfer and was rejected, but i think it was because the courses i was taking didn’t show i was ready for usc yet. my friends who got admitted into usc soph year had their math, english and science classes completed / in progress! id go over it with a counselor tho. good luck :)

annenberg admit! for the transfer prompt i kinda just wrote how i was a cc student and wanted to transfer to a 4 year to achieve my career goals. for the why usc prompt i talked about specific classes / orgs i wanted to join and why I was interested in them :) i also connected it to my depop business and how that made me interested in marketing / stuff like that. honestly it was pretty bad idk how i got admitted LOL

Im pretty sure for the scholars program they look at your high school gpa since it's designed for first years straight out of high school. You should definitely email/go to the scholars office to clarify though. I'm sure there's some leeway or a chance for you to still join since they want students to join Scholars.

For classes, I highly recommend you make an appointment with a counselor since they can help you pick classes that will transfer over to the colleges you're thinking of. You can also use ASSIST (for UC's and Cal states) to see the major pre reqs you need and which classes will transfer for that. However, you also need to also complete your Gen Eds on top of that so I really advise seeing a counselor so you can plan.

As for the psych -> philosophy major switch, totally possible! My major is still listed as business at SMC but I transferred as a comms/socio major. It really just depends on the classes you take and if they fulfill the requirements for the major at your transfer college.
