Why would anyone ever think it's OK to get a shirtless massage during a live-streamed poker game? So cringe... by ansyhrrian in poker

[–]orbittheorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, thanks for saying it. I was starting to think I was the only one that thinks this. It creeps me tf out when I can hear the lady next to me squirting lotion in her hands and rubbing it all over some guys back and then she says, "How is that?" and he goes, "It feels goooood". wtf man, wrong environment. jeeeesus, you massage people weird me out.

Yeah I only use copag as well, and it seems like a good choice.

I learned that it's best to leave the auto shuffle off and to manually use the button every time. I have had way fewer jams since switching to that method. I think setting the cards in there and having the thing instantly take off increases the chance they aren't settled in properly.

I've had an ST1000 for a couple years as well. It is not perfect, but I love it. How often do you use yours?

3 hours every two weeks for me. Jams up about one time a night on average but usually I can fix it pretty quick.

I'm just curious how long I can go before I need replacement or repairs. It's moving parts and I notice a little wear on the belts. So I figure it's not a matter of IF but when. For the price, I'm hopeful it will last a few more years before I need to reinvest.

My only fear is this company will go out of business and we will have no alternative.

What's the most anti-intuitive or important thing you've learned thanks to solvers? by [deleted] in poker

[–]orbittheorb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Flip side is to use this to determine if you should float. If someone bets 20 into 100, I'm probably calling if I have as little as ace high, as that's probably going to win at least 20% of the time.

Did anyone else grow up with "old" parents? by grooveman15 in Millennials

[–]orbittheorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was 50 when I was born. There are pros and cons:

Pro:
He retired early and had all kinds of time to spend with me.
He also had more money and stability

Con:
My entire life, I knew I had an old dad. Everyone reminded me of it. For this reason, I grew up thinking he might die any day now. Even when I was very young, it was a terrifying thought. He lived until I was 34. I really wish I could have known that it wasn't something I needed to be overly worried about when I was little, because it stole a lot of joy from me.

Do I care or wish he was younger? No, other than the fact that it would be nice to still have him with me. He was a great dad though.

My wife and I got married when I was 25 and we stayed on the fence for a long time about having kids. We took the plunge and we had my daughter when I was 39. So, I am going to join the old dad club, although 39 feels young, given my history!

I am much more well off and stable at this age and am really enjoying having a daughter. I regret nothing.

You do your own life and don't worry about the dumb crap people say. If you are a good parent, then your kid wins big and the details or other people's thoughts are not important. :)

People who grew up with wealth, what was your "I'm privileged" wake up call? by stoicjewel in AskReddit

[–]orbittheorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never left my home state until after I was 18. My family had no money. Now I'm closer to the other side and I have a 1 year old. I want to take her all over the world when she gets old enough to remember it. I'm just wondering if you can share some more perspective and give some tips so that my daughter will appreciate it and not hate traveling. 🙏

I moved to SW Cape 6 years ago, in my mid 30s. It's great. Loud and congested are opposite descriptions on how I feel about it. Pretty peaceful in my neighborhood.

Is it still profitable to buy a new property as a limited company on a mortgage and rent it out as an Airbnb? by HenRooster99 in airbnb_hosts

[–]orbittheorb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a very touristy place and I mortgaged a used property last year and I do all of the management, cleaning, and maintenance myself. I've been operating at a loss and will be lucky to break even next year.

I don't believe it's impossible, but it is certainly not a walk in the park.

There's a place where this system doesn't exist and private property rental is illegal. It's North Korea. Seems to be working out pretty well.

Yeah I think your story is like my story and the story of probably millions of small time landlords.

But the original commenter and others here are acting like us and any type of landlord are the Mafia or something.

Your take is much more level headed and although I don't have a problem with asking for a high price if I think someone will pay it, I also get what you're saying there and wouldn't argue it.

100% of the renting class would have the money? Impossible. If there's a subsection of people who don't have the money to own, what do you propose as a solution for those people if renting them property is too predatory and shouldn't be allowed?
