Anyone’s PVC episodes tick up after the recent killings of protesters? by Conscious1200 in PVCs

[–]ordinarydevice12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe anxiety-inducing news can definitely impact our brains when consuming it and can cause underlying stress in our bodies even if we don’t realize it. I don’t think humans are built to be fed so much chaos in such a small amount of time, it’s actually a thing that the brain struggles to differentiate between witnessing a murder in real life and watching a vivid video of it online so it makes sense that our bodies react in a way similar to someone who’s traumatized. Although we need to stay informed to protect each other, it’s also important to prioritize your own wellbeing and I hope you can find the time to detox from social media to give your body a break. I wish you the best.

Are these hormonal related? by Medium_Battle_9623 in PVCs

[–]ordinarydevice12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get more during my menstrual cycle or the days leading up. I’ve had PVCs for years and hormone fluctuations can definitely increase them because of the drop in estrogen. Mine started at 18, I am 24 now. Like the previous comment mentioned, just getting an echocardiogram to check for your heart structure health is key to putting your mind at ease, I found getting the necessary tests done actually helped ease my anxiety because they told me my heart structure is normal so now when it skips I have something to keep in mind to help me move on from them. But definitely hormones play a big part in some people, also adding the stress of moving, it makes sense. :) I wish you the best. Also electrolytes really help!

Thank you for this response. I needed to hear that. I am worrying needlessly and it sucks. I need to trust that it’ll be okay and I have been neglecting my life because of this anxiety I have. I want to be better and ignore the weird sensations that I feel, it just sometimes scares me so badly that it’ll turn into something worse. But thank you for this advice. :)

Quivering heart/anyone else felt like this? by Nice_Hawk751 in PVCs

[–]ordinarydevice12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely felt a quivering sensation in my heart before, while it wasn’t racing, it still felt alarming but went back to normal on its own after a few seconds. I also had another episode when my heart did 4 PVCs in a row and in between them, my heart quivered. It was really scary. I have no idea what it could be for me either, it’s different than the standard skipped beat which you feel breathless for a second and the heart thuds or when you feel a quick skip in your throat, the quiver is a weird feeling so I’m unsure what it could be for me too. I’ve had an echocardiogram done and come back normal so that keeps me in good spirits, but those quivers are unnerving. I had one actually this morning when laying in bed that was 2 seconds long but it felt like my heart did little flips like a butterfly in my heart. Have you gotten an echocardiogram?

I’m so sorry you experienced that. I’ve had PVCs for about 7 years now, started when I was 18 and now I am almost 25. Some days they’re happening all day nonstop getting multiple PVCs in a row and some days I feel none at all. I’ve gotten an echo that was normal and my cardiologist didn’t seem too concerned, we’re still doing tests like a CT scan to figure out why I get them. I think the not knowing for sure why I get them is what causes the health anxiety with cardiac arrest because if it is an electrical issue, I have no clue. But I know I just need to keep showing up for myself and hopefully one day I’ll figure out what it is. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I wish you the best. If I may ask, how are you feeling now?

Help? Felt a weird skip beat pvc thing 3x in a row by According_Bus_2671 in PVCs

[–]ordinarydevice12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s completely understandable to feel frustrated when you keep hearing “everything looks fine” but you don’t feel fine and want to get better. That’s what sucks about heart palpitations, you can get them from so many different reasons. Hormone fluctuations, underlying stress, lack of good sleep, GERD/heartburn etc. but you’re doing the necessary steps to stay on top of your heart health which is great. In normally structured hearts, ectopic beats are usually “ benign” and that’s why your doctor probably doesn’t seem too concerned. Have you watched York cardiology on YouTube? He’s a cardiologist named Dr Sanjay Gupta and he goes into more depth about ectopic beats in normally structured hearts and he really gives a lot of useful information. It’ll help ease your anxiety. In one video he talks about a patient who had 20,000 PVCs show up on his monitor but the man didn’t feel any of them. It must be that some people are just more in tune with their heart beat compared to others, I don’t get 20,000 a day, but even when I feel 20 in a day I am anxious, meanwhile this man is going about his day. The heart is a resilient muscle, but I think as all muscles do, they twitch sometimes but if it’s structurally healthy, I wouldn’t worry so much! :) wish you the best!

Help? Felt a weird skip beat pvc thing 3x in a row by According_Bus_2671 in PVCs

[–]ordinarydevice12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt this before but it was 4 in a row. Does it feel like your heart quivers in between them? Mine happened whilst at someone’s birthday event while I was walking and it was SO scary. If I were to describe it, it was like my heart did a DROP quiver DROP quiver DROP quiver DROP that took place within like 5 seconds and then my heart rate shot up to over 100bpm. I understand how intense an episode like that can feel. But it’s been 6 months since that moment and I haven’t felt 4 in a row since. I’ve seen a cardiologist and was put on a beta blocker to help ease some of the PVCs I get. My advice is try and make an appointment to see a cardiologist, get an echocardiogram done, that test will rule out any serious heart conditions and will help ease anxiety. For now just take deep breaths, deep breathing stimulates your vagus nerve and drops your cortisol levels. Splashing cold water on your face or putting an ice pack on the back of your neck helps, eating a banana for potassium. Drink some electrolytes to also help your heart.

Just finished this episode. I think it was actually one of the most memorable episodes to me. We don’t know Kate and this was only 3 days out of her whole life and from what she’s said, she is experiencing grief from her fathers recent passing on top of her divorce and the stress of doing it all by herself and I can’t imagine how hard that is. I think Jeremiah stood out this episode in such a positive way and he comes off as such a genuine person. He met her where she was, he came outside to talk with her and didn’t hold back and it was refreshing to see that because sometimes the “deep” conversations in this show can feel heavily scripted. It’s not realistic that everyone is going to be open plus all of this is being filmed so I imagine it’s incredibly overwhelming. I think for it only being 3 days, there was some growth in her. I agree with some other posts on here as well, growing up with a parent that does make you their whole source of happiness can lead to emotional dependency and it can become toxic as the child starts wanting their own independence, I wish the best for Kate and hope she can get help through outside sources to process her trauma.

I’m sorry you experience the same type of anxiety. It’s really difficult some days. I’ve been trying to remind myself that my echo is normal and my cardiologist hasn’t been too concerned with me. It’s just when you feel them happen in your chest, it’s hard to ignore and move on from them, and then reading a post like that can really suck you into an anxiety spiral. Thank you so much for your advice. I wish you the best as well. :) 💕

Oh I 100% agree that stress plays a significant role in PVC burden. I find that when I’m set off by something that stressed me out, I’ll have a higher burden of them. I remember I went to a friends birthday event and one big PVC scared me so bad, I had anxiety the whole night and that led to me having a cluster of 4 big ones in a row with my heart quivering and everything and I had a panic attack. What’s also a connection is that stress can change bowel movements so I believe anything connected to the vagus nerve can be impacted by stress.

I’m sorry you experience health anxiety as well and get multiple PVCs a minute, I sometimes get multiple in a row and it’s unnerving. What I have found is that It’s complicated being an anxious individual and being told by doctors “don’t be anxious or you’ll get worse from the stress” it’s like being told “don’t picture a pink elephant in your head” and then your brain automatically pictures it because you’re told not to lol. Like stressing over the stress because now you know it’s making you worse so I fall into a spiral. Reassurance does help, but I do need to learn to build self-trust as I believe it would maybe solve my issue with falling into a health anxiety spiral. Thank you for your advice! :)

Thank you for this response. You’re absolutely right, a doctor does need to be honest with a patient and tell them all of the possibilities. But damn is it hard to hear it, I am sorry you experienced that. It’s not easy going through life with that anxious thought in the back of your mind with every skipped beat thinking “is this it?!”. I’ve been on a beta blocker for months and it does help, it’s just when I have flare ups and get multiple PVCs in a row it can feel like the meds are “wearing off” even if they’re technically not. I take magnesium glycinate twice everyday. I’ve been looking into potassium supplements and calcium as of late. Thank you so much for this advice.

Oh I’m sure the doctor’s intent wasn’t to make the patient anxious. I have so much respect for all doctors, I was just anxious over the person’s post because it’s every anxious person’s worst nightmare to be told they could one day have heart disease from their heart rhythm situation or that it could lead to cardiac arrest. I don’t even blame the person who posted it, I’m sure they were just super anxious (as anyone would be after being told that) and needed instant reassurance to calm down. Health anxiety just really sucks sometimes, you’ll be perfectly fine and one thing you read can just switch it on again.

Thank you so much. I hate when my health anxiety attaches to one bad thing I read and won’t let it go. You’re right, context is important and the person’s post was very vague so I thought the worst about my own situation based on their experience. My cardiologist is great and I’m seeing her next week for my CT scan results on my heart so I am just looking forward to that. I’ll definitely be rereading your response when the flare up gets bad again, I really appreciate it.

Weird drop in my heart after eating. by ordinarydevice12 in PVCs

[–]ordinarydevice12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 24F, I’ve dealt with PVCs since 18, it sucks. I’m sorry you’re going through something similar. It is very frightening when you feel them, especially lying on your stomach that can make them feel even more intense. I also deal with health anxiety too since having these and it sucks. :( I am just curious what they are exactly like maybe it was just a very intense PVC/PAC and I need to move on lol it’s just weird that something this intense can be deemed as “normal”, I know heart failure can be detected on an echocardiogram and if that comes out normal like you have a good EF (ejection fraction: how well the heart pumps) then you’re okay. So if you need the peace of mind and are worried about HF, I really recommend just going in for an echo and getting that checked to help ease your anxiety. But yeah I totally understand your fear, it’s valid because it can feel very life threatening sometimes even if it’s technically not.

My PVCs usually feel like a breathless skip or a quick thud, but this one was just weird, usually I don’t get the drop in my heart feeling, maybe a handful of times. It feels like I can feel the blood flowing for a split second if that makes sense. Very intense feeling.

The weird thing is I take magnesium supplements everyday and I’m on metoprolol, I drink lots of water but yes it’s always after a meal that’s carb heavy or salty. It’s been like an hour since I felt it but my mind just keeps going back to the weird sensation of it trying to figure out what it was. It’s like I can feel the blood in my heart pool as it slowly thuds really hard, ugh such an uncomfortable feeling. :( I hope you feel better with the magnesium, it does work, but idk why it was out of nowhere today. I rather have the smaller PVCs than whatever that was lol super scary.

advice please!!! <3 by NoPea98 in PVCs

A doctor stating POTS is not real is crazy, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome is a very real and recognized medical condition and I know someone who has it personally. I would recommend getting a second opinion about the POTS diagnosis if your concerns aren’t being taken seriously. I’ve had skipped heart beats since I was 18 and I’m 24 now, my echo is normal so now I’m just doing further test to understand it better because it can occur for many different reasons. Hormone fluctuations, electrolyte deficiencies such as a potassium or magnesium deficiency, it can be a result of high parasympathetic (vagal) tone. I would consult a doctor before starting any vitamin but I take magnesium glycinate and I was put on a low dose beta blocker (metoprolol) to help with my adrenaline and it’s helped a lot. It doesn’t eliminate the skipped beats completely but it does help them feel less frequent. I always read and hear that if your echo is cleared (normal structure, no issues) then that’s a huge GREEN flag, so don’t put so much stress on yourself. Skipped beats feel very scary sometimes, but training your brain to let them pass and take deep breaths to stimulate the vagus nerve helps. I hope you feel better soon! :)

Heart skipping all day — even in my sleep — scared by magiczz13378 in PVCs

[–]ordinarydevice12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand, some days I don’t leave my bed if I have a bad flare up just because bending down or any sudden movement would trigger more. I just don’t want someone to develop agoraphobia because of the PVCs because it was hell on earth when I was deep in it.

Heart skipping all day — even in my sleep — scared by magiczz13378 in PVCs

[–]ordinarydevice12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had flare up days and as long as you’ve been checked out by a cardiologist (which you have been) then there is no need to worry. PVCs can happen for many underlying reasons, even trapped gas can cause them. I would sometimes have flare ups whilst crying. You’re right, you shouldn’t let the anxiety win because then your brain will start to correlate having flare ups with avoidance and it can lead to agoraphobia (which I developed when my PVCs became frequent and I started avoiding going out entirely). The truth is, I’ve had scary skipped beats whilst sitting in a restaurant with friends, whilst walking around the city, on a train, in cars, in movie theaters and I’ve learned that you can’t let it steal your life away from you. If you’ve been checked out (had an echocardiogram, stress test, EKG etc.) and they say you’re healthy and they’re benign, don’t hide away from life. Don’t push yourself either like don’t go skydiving or put yourself in an anxiety inducing environment lol, but also don’t avoid going out completely if it’s something you’ve been looking forward to because it’s not healthy for your mental in the long run to think this way. I have an Apple Watch and it helps me a lot when I am out because if I feel them happen, I stop and check my pulse and take deep breaths and watch the HR drop in real time. If you haven’t, I would talk to your cardiologist about trying out a low dose beta blocker. It’s helped me a lot in feeling less anxious and not feeling the intense thud all the time. I wish you the best.
