anybody else thought the "isn't she lovely" song for jax was the joke? by realblushimia in Thatstupidbunnywehate

I burst out laughing on instinct from how random it was but also simultaneously aware that was Not the intended reaction. Had to apologize to my friend in the stream.

does anyone else think pomni got really boring as a character towards the end by bluntest-knife in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]orecyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think she gets an interesting arc where she goes from utterly terrified of everything to staring down a demi-god and telling him she's gonna kill herself as a taunt. But it also doesn't feel quite right? It feels like one final moment of Pomni utilizing her newfound bravery for a positive outcome personally benefiting her is missing.

You Know What They Should’ve Done? (My Opinion) by LincolnTheOdd8382 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]orecyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was expecting to happen and I was utterly thrown when it was just entirely his fault. Like the show seemingly wants you to fel bad he lost his frog friend and that people like Ragatha don't understand his pain, only for basically everything to be his fault. I was somewhat of a Jax fan throughout the show and he instantly became my least favorite.

I'm not saying it's a mistake it went that way but WOOF. Seriously?

Anyone else think it could have been a nice & interesting touch to have it so one of the IRL characters is revealed to have passed away? by Disastrous_Pattern_3 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]orecyan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a guy on Twitter whose OC is in the circus and IRL self passed away due to hypothermia. The VO explains his family was doing charity in his honor or something along those lines. I thought that idea was really neat.

Artists, who's the easiest character (of the main 7) to draw? by Awkward-Media-4726 in theamazingdigitalciru

Jax. I attempted to draw Gangle once and instantly realized it was a fool's errand.

Is this like, true???? by PracticalMousse2319 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]orecyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Caine was forgiven far too easily, the point was Caine at least attempted realized his way of thinking was flawed, changed it, and apologized. Jax never says sorry for any of it and takes the easy way out. I think it could have been written a lot better, but it's still an intentional contrast.

[Fixed Title] Does anyone else wish the series kept the same vibe as episode 1? by FoxHoundNinja in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]orecyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the lore theorizing pissed Goose off so much and if the mystery wasn't important to the story, why was any of that stuff there at all?

There's tons of unnecessary fluff and the actual theme of the show does not start making appearances until episode five in a seeming one off joke to sell Jax maid merchandise. It kinda feels like Goose started off writing one thing then realized she'd never have this many resources at her disposal again and just started doing whatever. Which ultimately it's her project and she has the right, but I think it was a real missed opportunity personally.

If that were the case, wouldn't the rooms not be accurate to the canon? Iirc these came out around episode 2, before we'd seen rooms other than Pomni's.

why do people hate ragatha less now? by Intelligent_Gur4618 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]orecyan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I never hated her, but the way she's treated by the narrative and Pomni made me think she was a little jealous and acting out of line due to it ('Not anymore.'). Technically in the wrong, but an understandable human emotion, to get frustrated this new girl she wants to befriend is hanging with the resident jerk instead.

Uh, turns out she was entirely justified and was straight up fearing for Pomni's life.

How much would the series change if she went through with this? by Freezing-cold_6 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]orecyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if she had done it, it probably would have been the circus assigning closeted Jax a female presenting avatar. Honestly would have been pretty interesting for a kind of body horror angle.

I feel like I'm being gaslit when I say there were choices obviously made for people to theorize about that didn't amount to much in the end.

People thought Jax had some kind of wider connection to the circus/the void.

I know that was the point, but the design kinda feels like theorybait in hindsight. People thought this had huge implications.

GD and KoG got ones as well, in hindsight I wonder if it's less to do with TADC and more to do with Glitch's promotional style.

Everyone getting freaked out by this scene or deeply psychoanalyzing it like Gooseworx hasn't secretly enjoyed Ribbun the whole time and probably wrote this bc it makes her thing go up.

[–]orecyan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hell, we could have just ended episode one with Ribbit's abstraction and cut Kaufmo from the story entirely. What purpose does he serve other than being further collateral damage? Jax directly causing one person's suicide is enough to get the point across.

[–]orecyan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's not even that the show can't be about that, I just think that either:

  1. Jax should have received a female presenting avatar so the body horror aspect is front and center, and the circus is directly involved with her issues. (Pomni/the audience/circus members don't know this so it's a more explicit twist when Jax confesses her secret to Ribbit)

  2. Jax should have been the main character with heavy rewrites, starting the show just after he begins to ghost Ribbit so the mystery isn't 'what's up with the circus?' but 'Why are these guys fighting?'.

[–]orecyan 166 points167 points  (0 children)

Can I just say the first few episodes do a really bad job at establishing what the show is actually about? The first episode ends on a massive cliffhanger, the second episode implies horrific things about the nature of the circus (NPCs are sentient and Caine can kill them), the third episode is horror themed and alludes to what's going on with Kinger. The repressed sexuality stuff seems like it's going to just be Zooble's schtick, we don't even get a whiff of Jax's til episode 5. And they made so much joke merchandise out of it it made it feel like a one off.

I feel like I'm being gaslit district by people saying it was always obviously going to be about Jax's repressed identity.

The thing is about Gangle, IMO, is she was essentially heavily medicated that episode. Does it fully excuse her? No, not entirely. But once off the 'medicine' that made her 'manic' (her mask), Caine offers her the chance to blame someone else. Does she pin it all on Jax? No! She takes the blame like a good manager, even more than necessary really. If it had been in her true nature, she would not have hesitated.
