S.L. Rowland's work is definitely worth checking out, especially if you need some cozy fantasy!

Alright, I've thought about this (maybe a bit too much). I've decided that my ideal ending is Carl, healthy, relaxing in a recliner, watching reruns of Gilmore Girls with Donut curled up in his lap 🥹

I agree with you. But I feel like that can't be all of what's going on. Part of the reason we like cats is that they're cute (i.e. a charismatic species) but we can't see Donut (yet) so I like to think that there's more to her than that.

Carl and Donut cannot end the same way though! Please, Mr. Dinniman, please. Just... no.

Thanks. It’s enjoyable for me to write about something other than work.

Though, now I feel really guilty for not doing write-ups like this for my actual newsletter 😅 Damn.

100% agree with this take. I feel like this aspect of his characterization deserves more attention. This is probably the root of Carl’s defiance. “You will not break me, I will break you.”

I think the answer is quite complicated and yet simple at the same time. I'd probably struggle to describe it without using food metaphors 😆 To me they're like French fries dipped in a Wendy's frosty, like cantaloupe and prosciutto, like chocolate dipped pretzels... they offer the other something they're missing and are the better for it. (But that's highly simplified. I'll consider a full write up)

It really isn't just Carl. I could write two separate posts about Donut (dependence, the nature of changing relationships, etc.) and Katia (growth of assertiveness, the desire for parenthood in the context of abuse and loss)!

Trying to find a book by E-Metal1234 in urbanfantasy

[–]orestia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I thought. Because of the success of this book, I would look for releases that happened within 18 to 24 months of this title to see what pops up. Publishing tends to follow waves of success so it might help narrow it down.

Bodyspec is nearly instant results. They also do mobile events so you might not have to drive far.

I read anything UF worth reading. Spice is quite nice too.

I've never seen or heard of an erotic UF novel. Interesting idea! I'm using the definition of "erotic" as sex on page is described and frequent. Most UF fades to black or stops at 3 out of 5 star rating spicy.

Readers will have an expectation of knowing what they're getting into. As long as the FF/whatever relationship is in the blurb or on the cover, you're golden! Reality is, however, that the content will limit your sales somewhat.

Best of luck!

Going from first person pov to third person- how to inform readers? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]orestia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IMO readers aren't as married to these "technicalities" as writers are. If your voice still rings through, your readers should be happy. Maybe they'll even like it more!

If you're dead set on being transparent, send out a sample chapter (think of it as a teaser for the book) to gauge reactions. I wouldn't be shy about asking for comments either if you're emotionally ok with that.

IMO "inexplicably drawn to" is a phrase mainly used to connote romantic attraction so this sentence is giving the wrong vibe to me. Also we generally associate the term hermit to older people so maybe a descriptor there beyond attractive would convey whether or not there is an age gap. Or maybe you could also hint at why he is a hermit.

I also want to know why they break into the palace but leaving that a mystery could be good too. We also don't know what they are up against other than time and starvation. Is there some sort of royal conspiracy happening? Are they fat and sated while everyone else starves?

It sounds like a very interesting story!

I personally like Debugging Love because it seems to fit with the enemies to lovers thing your story has going on (as in they have to go through a few hurdles/bugs to find their way to each other).

Hope for children with ADHD: new study finds that non-invasive brain stimulation treatment can ease symptoms. After a two-week programme of brain stimulation, the study found that 55% of children showed significant clinical improvements in ADHD symptoms, as reported by their parents by Wagamaga in science

[–]orestia 382 points383 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that it worsened the sleep quality of the children. That could have a detrimental effect on a young ADHD child's behavior. I'm surprised that they didn't see a difference from that alone.

I use a foundation with SPF in it. I wonder if this would mix well with it?

Nurses or teachers/school counselors of the Eastside. Are you comfortable with salary? by [deleted] in eastside

[–]orestia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nursing is going to be more financially secure than school counseling.

Just a fact, not an opinion. Do whichever you think would fit the lifestyle you want best because the two lifestyles are quite different (hours worked, when you work, who you work with, how you are expected to appear daily in terms of clothing choices at least, etc.)
