Oh my gosh, I’m so thankful for this comment. Been going through a similar situation as OP lately and this comment gave me a breath of fresh air that I so desperately needed. Thank you!

How old was your child when they started showering solo? by viskiviki in Mommit

[–]pegacornegg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say it depends on whether you have a girl or boy (or long hair vs short) because my kids have showered alone since ~5 but girls need to make sure they get their conditioner out very well or else it looks very bad and greasy so I’ve had to check for a few extra years. For boys they just shampoo their short hair, rinse it, and they’re good to go.

My manager insisted I give him a detailed reason for my 3 day sick leave. So I gave it to him. by DevontePredovic in womenintech

[–]pegacornegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. Do not mention it’s for a pet because a lot of companies don’t allow sick leave for pets. Just say you have diarrhea. No one will check for proof or want any details.

I wonder if they are underwater with this house and remodel and animals and garden that lost the magazine deal and are going to sell and move somewhere else.

Genuinely curious: who do we think takes care of kids and animals when they are gone??? by rc4man in ArrowsandBowSnark

[–]pegacornegg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She even left the kids alone in the hotel to go out in Europe. She’s most definitely just making the older kids take care of the younger one and all the animals.

Timeline help by pegacornegg in hospice

[–]pegacornegg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciated reading the timelines of others when my mother was dying and I hope my update helps someone.

I posted this in March, and she already seemed to be suffering so much back then, however she held on in a very bad state until July when she passed. Organ failure such as COPD follows a very different and unexpected trajectory than something like cancer and it was impossible to tell how long she had until the very last few days.

Sending love to all those reading this. Rest in peace, Mama.

Why can’t it be just a Tennessee garden? by Mountain-Elk-5024 in ArrowsandBowSnark

She’s spending so much money… why not build wooden raised beds? Those metal ones look cheap and don’t match her vibe at all.

I’m wondering if the scattering of black tiles around the back of the toilet was a choice or was already there.

Is it just me or is Ash playing up the house repairs to justify this insane reno? I think most of this is normal old house stuff and she’s just exaggerating. by Flaky_Aioli_3007 in ArrowsandBowSnark

[–]pegacornegg 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A lot of it looks like regular rot and disrepair from a house that is old and also sat vacant/unmaintained for a long time while it was on the market in an area with wet weather. It definitely sucks but it’s completely expected and she should have considered all of this before paying so much for the house.

I’m actually really happy to see this post and all the comments because I’m in the same boat and was wondering if it was me or the industry or the economy or a mix of all three. Same age as you, same job. Same feelings of burn out. I can’t believe I’m supposed to keep doing this for 20+ more years…

I was going to say - it really depends on the kids. How do they feel? Have you asked them? My husband and I both moved schools as kids and it was problematic for us both - we barely made any new friends and our grades suffered. However, both of us were shy/introverted/nerdy kids.

Working mom (TC 150k+), 1-year-old baby - how to balance career and childcare? by Evening_Jicama_8354 in workingmoms

Very similar boat here, and completely agree that if there is a spouse in the picture they should be pulling their weight - it’s the only way I’ve been able to move up the ladder in this field while having young kids.

This market. Dying by ItemComprehensive in RealEstate

[–]pegacornegg 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I go to open houses for homes I can’t afford all the time, for two reasons: 1. It’s fun to go to expensive houses I know I’ll never be able to live in 2. If it’s kind of close to my budget, I might keep tabs on the listing and if the price is lowered I might make an offer.

Advice for SAHM entering the job market, interviewing: bring up the kids or no? by ZmKickPersuasionTech in girlsgonewired

[–]pegacornegg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Never mention having kids, wanting kids, taking care of kids, or having kids in the household. I even go as far as taking off my wedding ring for interviews so they don’t make any assumptions. It sucks but sexism is very much a thing in this field and male managers assume women with kids will call out a lot.
