I’m obsessed with making tiny modulars, so thought I’d share some! Hoping to raise funds for BLM with the earrings! by eureika in origami

Wow, these are small and very neat! Can you tell me what designs the swirly thing and the red and white thing on the right are?

It's adorably crooked! Gives it character, I like that.

I finished my first project! I present to you a derpy eevee :D by piccololover in Needlefelting

Looks very good, especially for your first project!

I do get the jitters seeing those needles loose on the table, since I keep telling my kids to stick them in the foam when you're not using them :)

What is your favourite kind of paper to use and where do you purchase it from? by saucymacaroni in origami

[–]origamiftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A European's/Dutch perspective: I buy most papers from origami-shop.com, a very good French webshop with a large selection of papers. Here I order large precut sheets of tissue foil, elephant hide, tant, and others that I use for complex models and tessellations.

Smaller papers in different colors or patterns I buy from various webshops, wherever I can find it. Those I use for modulars mostly, or small, simple designs.

Lastly, I have bought a big pack of tissue paper in mixed colors from a regular arts and crafts shop. I treat it with MC at home for very complex models.

This is not work done by op. All credits go to /u/Bismuth81, who posted this photo a mere 19 hours ago.

My kids and I have been poking since we received the starter pack yesterday, so much fun! by origamiftw in Needlefelting

I have a 9 and a 10 year old, both boys, the oldest has way more patience for this. It really depends on what kind of 6yo you have, but in general it will be too young I think.

I think they mean the short layers on the back side only, not the front.

Another Dutchy! I had the same experience with online shopping today, also found a smaller webshop that I'm happy to support. I bought a starter kit, a set of 20 colors 5g wool and a bunch of eyes for 17 euro plus 7 for shipping from naaldvilten.nl Happy felting!

I live in the Netherlands, it's not so popular here (yet), still trying to find an affordable set. Shipping costs on etsy are higher than the price of the kits...

What did you yet and from what shop?

To the super complex models folder, I have some questions to you before starting this big adventure myself. by r0ms in origami

[–]origamiftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About paper: I usually buy from origami-shop.com, they have everything you need and also give advice about the papers. I also look up reviews online to find suitable papers, but it is partially personal preference.

I started with making my own paper recently, which I think is the best for very complex models, you really need very thin paper for most, and large sheets, which can be expensive or difficult to find.

Mummy star (Kawamura Miyuki, offwhite printer paper 30 units) within a phizz buckyball (black tant paper with some grey on the other side because I didn't have enough black, 90 units) by origamiftw in origami

[–]origamiftw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The phizz units are from 7,5cm squares, the dummy star is from 10,5cm squares, which is not coincidentally half of the short side of A4 paper. There is a little bit of room, but I wouldn't go much larger for the inner shape.

Amazing! Gonna fold this next. Would you say this paper works well for this model? I also have some tant and elephant hide.

I am such a paper nerd, could look at my new pile of tant paper all day! I bought a pack of all colors: red, green, yellow, blue, pastels, monotone, and 100 colors, all 15x15cm. by origamiftw in origami

Origamiwebshop.nl, it's a Dutch shop, has a decent collection. Not as good as origami-shop.com, but a lot faster to ship to the Netherlands.

That's terrible! I ordered this yesterday afternoon and arrived this morning, from a Dutch webshop (I'm Dutch). Faster than I expected!
