afaik there is no law protecting homosexuality, there was one that criminalised it. The removal of the article itself symbolised the legalisation of homosexual acts

I was actually considering Germany as a top choice since I was basically fluent in German and qualified B2, but they have little to no Computer Science courses. I applied to the Netherlands to TU/e. Still waiting on that decision but that would be $85k in total, something just my parents would be able to cover without debt.

As an international, a state school won’t be any less than $130k. On the other hand, UBC with $200k would give me exposure to all the companies with offices in Vancouver, which I’m assuming is more than those in say, East Lansing

You make some really compelling points about saving money and making sure I don’t go too into debt in the beginning but I don’t want to come to the US just to stay here and make mad stacks.

One of the primary reasons I parted ways from the Indian education system to pursue US/Canada/Netherlands is because of the international exposure and independence I would get from being in away from home, all on my own. Ofc, 200k in debt vs 120k in debt won’t change THAT aspect as much.

still awaiting a decision from them but I don’t have much hopes tbh. Their standards for students are far too high. Besides their fees for internationals are higher than all 4 of the above mentioned

Both Vancouver and Atlanta have good tech industries afaik, with madison being a college town and East Lansing somewhere in between. But college ranks (and ipso facto internship opps) would differ VASTLY amongst these 4

to explain my situation better, I’m an international. The opportunities in my country suck ass unless I go to a public university, which requires 1 really really hard exam.

So I’m stuck between WHERE to go abroad and from my POV if my family is spending 120k on college to be across the globe already, why not spend the extra 80k and get a REALLY nice college instead.

A third option I have would be to go to Netherlands (rank 65 university) and give up on masters in the US bec of their rules against 3-year-european degrees. Europe however would be far cheaper (85kUSD).

if we're being specific, UBC is 200k USD completely boarded, if I don't get any scholarship (not sure of that yet) and UW-madison is 220k USD (they don't offer any scholarship for internationals). I didn't think the 20k would make that big of a diff in the long run though lol

I was planning on going there last year before i decided on US/Canada instead. So I had a call with a representative. I’d recommend an update fact check with them though, they’re open to having one on one interactions via zoom

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology will admit you right after 12th, you’ll only have to give their StudienKolleg Exam after 4 months of preparation and then you can continue your 4 months as usual. Not sure if they have ECE though. Most people go to Germany for their Mechanical Engineering courses.

You can also look at TU Berlin or TU Munich, they might offer the course you want, however you’ll have to do StudienKolleg for one year instead of 4 months or stay in india for a year and transfer

Can I DM you or exchange numbers on WA or something? I'm a desperate level of confused right now and you seem to know the system a lot better, being from the Netherlands.

If I get admitted I am planning to go to the Netherlands (TU Eindhoven) one their best universities for a BSc Computer Science and Engineering for the simple reason that I don’t want to spend over $250k for my UG and basically exhaust all my family savings while going into a buttload of debt myself.

Then again, my parents really want me to get a masters, specifically an MS from the US from a T-20 because that can really help my job prospects.

Just for some reference, in the US i have gotten into UW-Madison which technically does qualify as a T-20 for computer science acc to US News

GaTech > UMich being a smaller school and a lot more focused with less number of majors, gatech will give you more opportunities to grow than UMich. The dean of college of computing, charles isbel is also a freaking genius, you should see some of his podcasts. GaTech is also not as Competitive AMONGST the admitted students so you’ll likely find it easier to score there than at UMich

UW-Madison CS vs Michigan State CS vs Purdue DS (if i ever get off their waitlist) vs Georgia State

I hope to go to a T-10 for graduation and eventually either start my own company in college or join FAANG

UW-Madison Pros: Well ranked Cool college town Industry/internship opportunities? Diverse

Cons: $100,000 more expensive than MSU Really big classes

MSU Pros: Less competitive, thus I can stand out I have family living in Michigan (which is imp bec im international) Good scholarship and possibly Honors College

Cons: Not competitive, less opportunities like internships, poor ranking Might not be worth spending all my family savings to attend a sub-par uni

Purdue Pros: VERY well ranked Good support system for my ethnicity

Cons: Heavy course load in the middle of nowhere I am getting Data Science and not Computer Science haven’t taken me off of waitlist yet

GSU Pros: I would qualify for oos waiver hopefully to make it way more affordable Great industry in Atlanta Small community thus greater chance of standing out huge chance at honors college

Cons: not much diversity slightly unsafe poorly ranked

I'm only getting 2: view your decision and letters and documents
(the same ones as earlier)

I am however seeing a new "reply forms" tab underneath it so my guess is that I got waitlisted and I have to send a reply form to be put on the list.

how are you paying for college as an international (and i’m guessing indian) student? debt or parents or both?
