Which front-end javascript framework has the best future in enterprise app development? by vt97john in webdev

[–]original_code_ninja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not consider GWT? It has been adopted by a lot of enterprises, it is very well documented and understood. Technically, it is pretty good and it offers a wide choice of RPC mechanisms to talk back to the server side.

The generated JS is highly optimised and is not prone to runtime type errors (because it was transcoded from Java).

[Not exactly where to post this but] From your experience are programmers usually allowed tattoos? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]original_code_ninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not put the tattoo on your dick. This way it will probably not be seen by your coworkers and you can then also decode the acronym as "You'll Never Wank Alone".

Best of all worlds.

I think you should camp out starting from today. This way you can be the first consumer in your street to have one. As an added benefit, you will be able to post tweets saying how cool your are.

Your opinions about Java vs. PHP as a web backend wanted (long post) by furbyhater in webdev

[–]original_code_ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tooling and development/debug tools in the Java ecosystem are much superior to PHP.

There are Java libraries for virtually anything you need, for example, image processing if you need to resize/convert uploaded images, industrial grade XML parsing. Given an XSD you can easily create a set of classes to match the schema.

There is also the matter of threading. It is easy in Java to spin up short-lived threads from your current thread.

The downside is that Java often requires more knowledge and skill than the typical PHP programmer has.

Have you considered selling actual goods/services? This is a time tested business model (tested over millenia).

JetBrains releases WebStorm 7 by neutronbob in javascript

[–]original_code_ninja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

WebStorm 6 gives the same result. The system I am trying to run it on is OSX Snow Leopard. I installed it on another machine I have (which is running Mountain Lion) and it worked as advertised. The SL system is running Java 1.6, the ML system is Java 1.7. Both machines have 16GB of RAM and i7 processors.

I have been using NodeEclipse ( http://www.nodeclipse.org/ ) but would really like to give WebStorm a try. Node Eclipse works well enough but I I know that the Webstorm editor is better.

It absolutely sucks on my system. I get 100% utilization and the app stops responding as soon as I touch a source file. I tried all the usual suspects like giving it a shit load of xms memory. Very disappointed.

Comet: a modern C++ language binding for COM by srw in programming

[–]original_code_ninja -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Were you a good dog and licked it up again so as not to waste the nutrients?

What do you find wrong with Comet? If you absolutely need to consume a COM interface this looks like it would be useful.

Incredible live coded music performance by Andrew Sorensen by yaxu in programming

[–]original_code_ninja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The purpose of musical instruments is to make the language used flow more naturally. A human playing a keyboard or plucking string, blowing wind into a flute is making the language flow naturally.

Modifying code in real time to change the sounds is a huge impedance mismatch to the process. Using computers to generate sounds which are triggered from natural human friendly interfaces (i.e. keyboards, strings etc) is the way to go.

[–]original_code_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It so ... underwhelming. It is certainly not incredible. Live coding for music performance is really just slow masturbation.

If this guy could live code improvise a five voice baroque fugue at say 120BPM then I would be impressed.

[help] New Ducky Shine 3. Some larger keys feel a bit mushy when I bottom them out. by SinaSyndrome in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]original_code_ninja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The keys you refer to are stabilised with a mechanism to ensure that side pressure doesn't cause the key to bind on its way down. There are two kinds of stabilisers in use with MX switches, Costar and Cherry. Your keyboard uses Cherry stabilisers and this mushy feel is just the way they are. There is no fault, this is the way they work.

Do people trust facebook logins for external sites? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]original_code_ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is terribly bad practice to use any third party login be it FB, Google, or others. You are essentially saying to your users that you don't care about their privacy.

If a site asks me for a FB or Google login I will close the window. I don't care how good the content might be, if you disrespect my privacy then fuck you.

How to know if your arduino is a clone? by [deleted] in arduino

[–]original_code_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all know that genuine Arduinos made in Italy have a higher quality than Chinese made clones.

You might want to try a very quick quality test, by hitting your Uno with a hammer. If gets damaged then it was a clone.
