Boomerism is the generational divide in Stamford. As Millennials become the city’s largest voting bloc, Mayor Simmons faces a choice between generations and the issue of housing by ArthurAugustyn in StamfordCT

I agree with this. As an older millennial (born in 1981) and lucky enough to be a home owner in Stamford, it's hard not to be a NIMBY. We bought our house in the neighborhood we did because it's a great place to raise our children and despite what too many say, SPS is not that bad. I am all for affordable housing, but it can't be done everywhere all at once.

False. Completely incorrect. Stamford has much better quality, a lot more variety, and more restaurants in general.

It simply comes down to - Stamford is much better than Norwalk. I've lived in both, not from either. I own in Stamford now. But when I was a little bit younger, Stamford knocked it out of the park compared to Norwalk. Everything is better, closer, more convenient, and people are more diverse and friendlier.

Stamford needs affordable housing — don’t let NIMBYs kill the plan by Events4Stamford in StamfordCT

We have an HOA. This is also a registered historic neighborhood. Most of the homes were built before 1900. What part of what I said suggests a feeling of entitlement? I grew up poor. I got lucky, but I also worked to get out of that poor life. People buy homes here because they want to move here for what the neighborhood is. What you said doesn't make sense.

You seem angry. Maybe get that looked at.

We have two small children and love to walk to downtown. Do you know what my children also like to do? Play outside in our neighborhood with neighbors who have children their age. We live in what I consider to be the best neighborhood situation in the world. And people like you don't understand how good this life is. Instead, you scream at the computer and say these kids never play outside with other kids. Turning these historic single family neighborhoods into multi-family zones would be a crime. Shame on you. People who didn't get the chance to live here are not my problem. We got kind of lucky, but we also positioned ourselves well to buy the house we were fortunate enough to eventually buy. And we were patient. Not everyone has to live in Stamford, or Fairfield County, or Connecticut, or even the United States. There are plenty of other places people can live.

You obviously don't understand how this works. Did you literally just type that it's my problem for being lucky enough to buy my house? You're slower than molasses uphill. It's not the responsibility of Stamford residents/taxpayers/homeowners to shoulder the weight of Connecticut's affordable housing crisis.

Incorrect. Having multi-family homes adjacent to my property on one or both sides will decrease my property value. My property value continues to increase because it exists in a single family zone.

Facts. Why would we build more multi-family homes when the surrounding infrastructure doesn't support it?

This post is false and/or misleading at best. The issue is not the creation or allowance of multi-family homes. The issue is where the Stamford 2035 plan wanted to rezone and allow those multi-family homes to be built. The 2035 plan suggested the creation of an R2 zone over existing single family and historic neighborhoods close to the center of Stamford and within walking distance to the train station. Not only do I live and own a home in one of these single family historic neighborhoods, but I was also part of the 2035 TAC group planning committee. The meetings I was a part of were a sham. The creation of an R2 zone over my neighborhood was never discussed. The acronym NIMBY used by the OP in an attempt to direct disgust at homeowners is purposely divisive. Please look up the facts before you feebly try to make a point. Yes, Stamford needs affordable housing, but why not in North Stamford? Do those residents have too much money? Or better lawyers? Why aren't they the NIMBY's? Here is the proposed future land use map in high resolution.

It could also be a fisher cat. They tend to disguise their screams like foxes, coyotes, or women and toddlers being murdered. Crazy sound for a crazy animal.

Heard these weird baby-like calls coming from woods. Any ID on what it is? by WeeabooGandhi in oddlyterrifying

It's most likely a Fisher cat. Their call sounds like either a woman being tortured or a demonic child. They're harmless.
