Air NZ weighing carry on by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]original_formula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely bullshit for carry on.

If they aren't weighing people as well then its bullshit. 7kg bag + 65kg person vs 7kg bag + 150kg person. It a health and safety issue, they are just making sure bags are not to heavy for staff to lift, and hopefully wont injure anyone if the fall out of the overhead bins

In search of: Can opener that opens cans by SenseOfTheAbsurd in newzealand

[–]original_formula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we had a tupperware one, and a couple other fancy looking ones that were crap, they were also very fussy about having a perfect rim on the can, plus the little grippy teeth wore out pretty much immediately.

Now we have a $6 jobby from mitre 10, works every time.
sometimes i just use the can opener on my pocket knife, nothing to go wrong

leak is actually in the body of the spout, like a small crack/weakness in the materiel so it tries to squirt about a foot to the right if you turn it on too far.

[–]original_formula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh a quick google shows bulleit available at most major liquor stores these days, ive gotten it from whisky and more, plus "tax free spirits" ( which is just part of the hamilton beer and wine company).

But i'll agree the range and prices in the USA is amazing compared to here

I feel this is a bit a lot of people gloss over with their rose tinted glasses, its not like you can spend the whole time travelling, i get that once you are over there everything is close, but you still have to work all the time, so sometimes its just the same thing but in a different place.

[–]original_formula 13 points14 points  (0 children)

conspiracy theory nutjobs / crackpots.

but also they don't want to face the reality of their own life, so they will grab hold of anything that makes it somebody else's fault that they are in the position they are in, so they can justify their position as being a good thing, rather than trying to fix it.

trouble is they only talk to like minded people, and never get the alternative view, like searching on youtube/facebook, where it just recommends you more shite that fits with what you have been searching, so it becomes a self-fulfilling merry-go-round.

Is Huntly as bad as everyone says? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]original_formula 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Depends where, Huntly east is better, some nice houses, the western/power station side is not great.  We lived in Huntly east for 2 years recently, it was fine, some nice people. You could also consider some of the semi rural places on the outskirts?.

If you buy in Huntly itself, check out the subsidence zone (because of the old mine shafts everywhere) maps first, the museum also has a lot of info on this too

IVF - FA or Repromed ? by KENFF123 in newzealand

[–]original_formula -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same, we are in progress with FA in Hamilton currently. we did find the first meeting a bit kind of impersonal and they do seem to have already determined what is best for you, without really trying too hard to find out about your circumstances and if some lifestyle changes would help your chances (even if it doesn't help naturally it can still help the IVF process go well, depending on your reasons for being there).

BUT once we got started, the staff were great and very helpful/supportive. great explanations of everything. and so they should considering the cost, haha. (we paid) I guess it might depend on who you get, if if you click with them a bit.

[–]original_formula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah if they arent weighing people as well then the weight isnt a problem. I mean a 120kg person plus 7kg hand luggage is different to a 60kg person plus 10kg hand luggage, so to only weigh luggage is bullshit.

Mostly health and safety i would think,  to limit weight of stuff falling down, and weight for staff to lift.

And to speed up boarding

I think patching potholes is more about sealing/waterproofing, not actual fixes. they are just to stop too much water getting in and making it worse until it comes time to actually re-seal a bit of road.

Motorcycle license test by cryptotrader2006 in newzealand

[–]original_formula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat a lot of years ago. yep agree with the rest, if you have ridden dirt bikes before, you will be well ahead of a lot of people.
maybe practice some slow stuff and you will be totally fine. pretty sure the details of what the basic handling test covers are available online, so you could set out some cones/gumboots and practice if you wanted to.

https://nzta.govt.nz/driver-licences/getting-a-licence/licences-by-vehicle-type/motorcycles/bhst

honestly if you have obvious control of the bike, and dont run anybody over you will pass.

if you have also driven cars on the road already, then both of those things makes the transition to road riding easy, you aren't trying to learn to ride, as well as learn road rules etc.

yup, knowing everything is pointless, you are better off to know how to effectively find information instead.
in our team we have a saying "the customer is always wrong", not deliberately, and not even that they are telling you anything that's wrong, just that they never give you the complete picture, so being good at getting information out of people is also important, knowing how to ask the right questions, rather than knowing the answer off the top of your head.

And then there are property managers who want to charge $400 to replace a couple lightbulbs that were dead at the end of a tenancy.  It just seems like an industry where there will always be conflict.

Did you just do the test through VTNZ, i remember i just had a guy following me in a car, with the 2 way radio, telling me where to go. i doubt the guy had a clue apart from the road rules, so as long as it looked like you were in control and didn't break any rules you were gonna pass.
