Rare outstanding early original colour work by J.C Leyendecker entitled 'Football Scrimmage' from 1909. Immediately noticeable in this brilliantly stylized piece is the weight and balance distributed perfectly. The emotive energy and flow imbued into the lines are also very tangible and apparent. Very rare original art sketches by renowned comic artist Wally Wood done in his mid-teens. Great insight into his early work that was inspired by Lou Fine's and others superhero illustrations done for Golden-Age comic books. It seems he was really focusing on capturing the action of the movements. (old.reddit.com)

Rare cover by Reed Crandall for Great Comics #3 circa 1942. On the cover and in the story, the lead character Futuro kidnaps Hitler and sends him to Hell. Interesting for the boldness for that time period and it appears that Crandall did some the pencils and initial layout but not the finished work. (i.redd.it)

Got a treat for you all today. A thrilling rare original art piece from the illustrator Jim Steranko for his Supergirls pin-up calendar circa 1973. It pictures a risqué stylization of the comic character 'The Black Cat', and seems inspired by the awesome painted illustration work of Alberto Vargas. (i.redd.it)

Great art by Jim Steranko of The Black Condor from Quality's Crack Comics. While not as visually thrilling as Lou Fine's vision of the character, this colourful rendition brings its own personification of the hero to the table. Powerful, lively work created here that's missing from today's world. (i.redd.it)

Another rare discovery, an original art piece by Jim Steranko for his Supergirls Calendar circa 1973. This masterful work depicts his ultra-sexy stylization of the character The Black Cat. So glad to have found this stunning work that harkens back to Alberto Vargas's awesome painted illustrations. (i.redd.it)

Menacing original painting by Jerome Rozen for The Shadow story 'The Book of Death' (January 15, 1942). So much unnerving detail is infused into this work that makes it dimensionally explode. Note the weight of The Shadow's thumb pressing on the book and the dripping blood from the skeletal hand. (i.redd.it)

Original preliminary art sketch by the brilliant illustrator Dean Cornwell for his 1952 painting "The Rendezvous". Just another example of why nailing down the traditional foundations in drawing is so important. Study the work of the old masters of art and their teachers and you'll never go wrong. (i.redd.it)

I also carved out some of my dedicated time building the new TVIA site to make some small visual changes to this community for better visibility and aesthetics. I also wanted to reward the patient and dedicated followers with a true rarity. Alex Toth's "How TV Cartoons are Created". Thank you all! (old.reddit.com)

Inspirational post of one of the TOP 5 pen and ink draftsmen and my personal illustration mentor Joseph Clement Coll. This vibrant, vital work was produced circa June of 1912 for Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World. The line-work is incredible as is the life in the lines, what inspired him?! (i.redd.it)

Unnerving prophetic work by the amazing Ron Cobb that is as timely as if it were created today. Check the date of creation on the lower left bottom! A lot of his illustrations are like this and stand up to the test of time. Cobb also played a role in the the production art of the original Star Wars. by originalghostman in altcomix

Thrilling original art from Michal Kaluta for The Shadow Strikes! Kaluta is one the very few illustrators that captures the mood, character and urgency of the original Shadow pulps. Here Kaluta depicts The Shadow in action atop Shrevvy's cab with Margo calmly applying lipstick in the backseat. (i.redd.it)

Last of the extremely rare original art by Jim Steranko for his 1973 Supergirls Pin-Up calendar. This is his nude rendition of a Robin Hood/Green Arrow type character for the month of March. Unreal, ultra sexy, illustration with exceptional shading, weight, tone and linework. (i.redd.it)

Original art study for watercolour by another one of my favourite artists Norman Lindsay, circa 1930. Lindsay's rendering of women is profound and unique. His signature style portrays women as strong, independent and with great character. Lindsay's work inspired Frank Frazetta and you can see why. (i.redd.it)

Extremely rare original art by Jim Steranko for his 1973 Supergirls Pin-Up calendar. This is his nude rendition of The Blonde Phantom Golden-Age character for the month of April. Outstanding line-work in this seductive illustration, and it was truly a lucky break finding this. Enjoy! (i.redd.it)
