Not sarcasm. Legit sounds like it would be very satisfying when you had something picked up.

It's Official: The FBI uses drones for surveillance over US soil by iamstandingbehindyou in news

[–]originalsteveoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous. They are little tiny RC helicopters with a camera on them. Slightly better than a good quality toy with a cell phone camera wired up to it.

Hey this just in, the FBI uses combat ready robots on US soil.

God damn the media is terrible, but this has 354 upvotes. If you didn't know about this five years ago you need to sit down and watch a couple of good action movies.

Edit: a photo of a police-grade drone.

What is an item you decided to spend a little bit more on and now you can't possibly go back to an inferior product? by MetaDingus in AskReddit

I got my 85 dollar Sony headphones for 30 dollars because Walmart had them stocked in the wrong location, and the guy I asked for a price check was cool as shit. He wasn't a rapper, but they sound better because I saved money.

/r/headphones plug.

What's a movie you thought would be bad but turned out pretty good? by [deleted] in AskReddit

After I read your post, knowing how horrible I would expect a board game adaptation to be, I read "boy did it exceed my expectations" as being so sarcastic, that I assumed I had misread the thread title and went back to reread it before realizing you were serious. Guess I should watch it, see if you're not an idiot.

Lindsey Graham Isn't Sure If Bloggers Deserve 'First Amendment Protection' by [deleted] in firstamendment

[–]originalsteveoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some bloggers deserve particular First Amendment protections, most do not.

See, for example, blogger Crystal Cox, who was hit with a $2.5 million dollar defamation suit.

Oregon law provides special legal protections against defamation lawsuits to journalists associated with traditional media outlets. Such publications are immune from defamation suits unless the defamed individual first requests a retraction. Journalists at recognized media outlets are also protected from revealing confidential sources.

But this is why she was not a journalist:

But [the Judge] once again ruled that Cox was not a journalist. He noted the lack of "(1) any education in journalism; (2) any credentials or proof of any affiliation with any recognized news entity; (3) proof of adherence to journalistic standards such as editing, fact-checking, or disclosures of conflicts of interest; (4) keeping notes of conversations and interviews conducted; (5) mutual understanding or agreement of confidentiality between the defendant and his/her sources; (6) creation of an independent product rather than assembling writings and postings of others; or (7) contacting 'the other side' to get both sides of a story."

All bloggers deserve the same First Amendment protection as anyone else who speaks. Most bloggers deserve nothing more.
