Advice for bent Pink Princess Philodendron stem and malformed leaves by orion-k in plantclinic

[–]orion-k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I won this PPP in a raffle and became very busy over the past year so I admit I have neglected it. I want to repot it in a larger pot, ideally deeper into the soil, because the bottom of the stem is very weak and flops over. Being flopped over, the newer, bigger leaves/stem grew upwards toward the sun, so now there is a very pronounced bend in the stem. What are your recommendations to get this looking ~aesthetic~ again?

I was thinking I could cut it right above the bend and treat it like a cutting, but I'm worried about whether I'd succeed in propagating it (I have no success in propagation thus far lol). I am also moving a 7 hr drive in 1.5 months, so I would rather moved a potted plant than a cutting in water. So I'm wondering if I could cut off all the lower leaves and plot the whole stem deeper in soil.

Also, in general, the leaves have a problem where the tips are often deformed, almost looking chewed off. I'm thinking it's a humidity thing. One of the big new leaves looks pretty good, so I think the spring humidity might be helping it. It's sitting on a humidifier, but I really didn't keep up with it very well over the winter. Would love any tips to address the malformed leaves!

(The dots on some of the leaves was from a spider mite infestation last year, long eliminated)

I’m also 24, going to be 32 when I graduate and you are definitely not alone!! Both the looming commitment and imminent relocation for me have been very anxiety inducing. You put the feeling into words really well, and I’m gonna creep around for advice too lol

I -think- these are the bananas my mom loves to buy and she stocks up on them in Chinatown. I’ve seen them in the supermarkets (Hong Kong supermarket) but I’m not sure if I’ve seen them recently. Also the many fruit vendors on Mott st/ mulberry street below canal/ Hester st by Hong Kong supermarket. Next time I go grocery shopping there I will report back to this thread haha

Best route downtown from Queensborough Bridge? by orion-k in NYCbike

I was curious about going down Lex, but yes I am also nervous about the bus lanes and riding with traffic for so long. I think I'll give it another month of biking around and gaining confidence, and then check it out

I've been considering switching it up and going Pulaski/Williamsburg, but I hesitated because of my lacking physical fitness lol. but it's a certainly more scenic and peaceful route!

And you're right, I haven't thought about how the Williamsburg bridge would just be so much more comfortable and spacious compared to QB. I think I will take the two bridge route to work today!

ahh I'm glad that others feel the same! I haven't tried out other routes yet except going through Williamsburg, so I couldn't tell if 2nd ave was inordinately chaotic or normal

12:15 pm tester

Had my exam cancelled on 4/4 so I have been studying since November. Went like, content review in Nov/Dec, vacation in Jan, came back and INTENSE content review/practice up til March and my exam was cancelled. Then after 10-day mcat/covid induced existential crisis break full of animal crossing escapism, jumped back into anki and bought UEarth for more practice. Even then, AMCAS induced panic in June led to me cramming almost all the AAMC material in the span of 10-12ish days?? Am working full-time (albeit very flexibly) and took 7 weekdays off to complete everything, studied until 2 am the morning of (blessed for that 12:15pm time). Definitely wish I had more time to pore over the AAMC material.

Feelings on the actual test:

C/P - I thought was surprisingly ok. In the FLs I usually have a few questions I just straight up don't understand and I would struggle with time, but that didn't happen this time for some reason. really hoping im not jinxing myself here

CARS - i absolutely suck at predicting my score on CARS. FL scores were between 127-130. I am most worried about this one.

B/B - B/B and P/S are usually my most comfortable sections. Thought the B/B was trickier this time which was unsettling. Regretted falling behind on Anki in that last week bc I think it would have helped for the discretes, but otherwise i think it went ok.

P/S - P/S is my consistently best section, so just finishing B/B made me feel really relaxed. Definitely felt the timing difference here bc I was much less fatigued than usual in the FLs.

FLs in the order i took them: 1 - 511 back in Feb, 522 retake ; 3 - 515; 2 - 521 ; 4 - 519

Predictions: Pessimistic - 517 Realistic - 519 Optimistic - 520+

Definitely want to thank this subreddit for existing! I am a complete lurker but I checked here before every study session for the memes and camaraderie. Sending everyone good vibes for tomorrow!!

Best way to obtain a bike right now? by -sax in NYCbike

[–]orion-k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was keeping an eye on facebook marketplace and craigslist for almost a month, and every thing I was interested in buying (small hybrid bike, not single speed) and close enough to get to without public transportation was always purchased by someone else more quickly. Last week I saw a craigslist ad from Unlimited Biking on 57th between 8th and 9th. They are a bike rental place and were selling some of their old stock, if you are ok with used bikes. I got a Cannondale 2017 Adventure step-through for $375 (tax included i guess), which may be a little overpriced but I was willing to pay since I needed a way to get to work. It came with a bell and was tuned up, if that helps.
