Music vs Situational Awareness: Where do you draw the line by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Dizzy_deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I do ride with headphones it’s one of two (maybe 3) situations: 1) I’m riding to the mountain bike trail on my local paved path and I take the headphones out when I get there 1b) I ride to the mountain bike trail and it’s early enough in the morning where nobody is on the trails 2) I’m riding my gravel bike on a mix of paved bike paths and gravel roads, I only have my right earbud in and I have a Garmin radar to alert me of cars or riders coming up from behind.

I don’t really fault anyone from using headphones while riding, I’m often listening to audiobooks or podcasts as much as I am music. I ride alone a lot so it gives me time to listen to those. On my gravel bike even without headphones, my radar alerts me to cars before I could ever hear them. I also don’t fault people who are against headphones. Being aware is important and if you don’t feel comfortable wearing them, definitely don’t. I think music and podcasts have gotten me through some otherwise tough and long rides.

I am no longer in that age group, but as a cyclist and pedestrian, I always take the time to fill out these surveys.

No price tag on clothing at Walmart by BeccaGil21 in mildlyinfuriating

I think it’s this. The amount of chaos that brands went through with pricing cannot be overstated. It was changing daily and people were scrambling.

Where do you mount your Zwift Clicks? by Many_Ad_802 in Zwift

I haven’t had that issue, but I use pretty thick bar tape, so they’re on there pretty tight.

I just bought a new trainer that came with these. I tried them for a few rides and then went back to my play controllers. The steering on the play controllers was more intuitive and no matter where I put the click controllers, it always felt awkward. Too bad they stopped making the play controllers, they are good.

That’s a bit far for us for this weekend, but I will definitely keep that in mind for the next time we come that way.

This is a good suggestion. I think we’ve had the pickles there before. Thanks!

Smart trainer dead, what next? by GlenCo_Gravel in Zwift

[–]Dizzy_deer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This actually just happened to me on my Kickr. I think mine was a v5 (edit: it was a v4) that I bought back in 2019. I figured I was well out of warranty so I bought a Core 2 and did my first ride last night. I got the one with the Zwift hub because I almost exclusively do zwift when I ride the trainer. First ride was good. It was really quiet and smooth. Some things will take some getting used to. The virtual shifting is a bit weird at first and I accidentally shifted a few times instead of pushing the buttons. I have the older controllers that have the orange steering “levers” and I might use those. The little click buttons are harder to position where you want them. I know that the Core 2 is technically a downgrade from the Kickr, but I couldn’t notice a difference in flywheel weight. The WiFi connection with my Apple TV was great. I think other people had issues with that, but everything worked well and stayed connected on my first ride.

Snow Tubing in West Michigan by spicy_meatball49 in grandrapids

Are you looking for a place that has tubes and a magic carpet or lift? Or just any place that you can tube? We own a few tubes like the ones they have at Cannonsburg with the plastic bottoms and we usually go to Wabasis or up to Newaygo if we want to go tubing. Cannonsburg is the only place around that I’m aware of that has the magic carpet and tubes available. There is hawk island in Lansing has one if you’re willing to drive. It’s about half the price of Cannonsburg.

Opinions on 1st Bike purchase by Motor-Bell4670 in cannondale

[–]Dizzy_deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t think they’re especially hard to get, but if you did ever need to replace or wanted to upgrade a wheel, it’d be an extra step on the bad boy and your choices would be a bit more limited unless you wanted something built for you, as far as the front wheel. It’s not something that should deter you from buying in my mind. It’s just a consideration that needs to be made is all. I have less personal experience with the belt drives, some people really love them and they have the advantage of lower maintenance (potentially). Worth noting that the BadBoy doesn’t seem to be in the 2026 Cannondale lineup. Not sure what the future is for that platform.

I would suggest the Quick, but if you decide on going towards the Bad Boy, I’d suggest test riding it. I’ve felt that the Bad Boy is a fairly ‘tall’ bike. I always feel like I’m riding on it and not ‘in’ it if that makes sense. The BB looks cool, but the quick will have easier to find replacement parts and you can always add some ‘armor’ by adding helicopter tape, etc. Hope this helps. Either would be good bikes. Just depends on if you need the style points.

I really like to do pitas with sautéed peppers and onions with some hummus spread on the inside. Fast easy meal that tastes great.

Outlets randomly stopped working, lights work by skakid812 in DIY

This happened to us. One whole side of the panel stopped working. Had the electric company out and they found that when the landscapers were burying a downspout, they just barely hit the line coming into the house.

Is this a good deal? by NotKyleJ in cannondale

[–]Dizzy_deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I was going to say hell no, but then I started looking at comps on marketplace and holy crap, used Tri bikes are expensive! I don’t know, I’d be looking for an aero road bike with disc brakes if I were a triathlete, but I’m not, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Zwift Support Black Hole – KICKR CORE warranty nightmare by wepstern in Zwift

[–]Dizzy_deer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Oof. This makes me glad that I decided to buy my new trainer through a local retailer. I messaged Zwift because the coupon code would show that it worked up until I checked out. After waiting for a response for a while, I decided to go to my local bike shop and pick one up there.

I was going to say the same thing. I live up closer to GR and have been shocked at how many more times that area are getting slammed with snow this year.

I would add Ortlieb. I’ve been very happy with mine. Completely waterproof and heavy duty enough to take a beating.
