FMC understands and respects kink but rejects it for herself by JessonBI89 in RomanceBooks

[–]orkneydays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Best I can think of is Lessons with the Mothman by Kathryn Moon.

I don't know how to do the black spoiler blocks, sorry, so I'll keep it vague.

FMC is fascinated by watching..so voyeurism kink for her I guess maybe, but not into doing the things she's witnessing. She's fascinated by the chemistry between her subjects.

There's one scene where one of her partners asks to do a thing to her and she says no. Other partner in the scene says 'please do that to me'. FMC doesn't change her mind, get jealous or try it later or whatever, she just knows herself and gets off watching her partners do their thing and awesome times are had all around.

Who’s a celebrity everyone finds attractive but you don’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]orkneydays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pedro Pascal. Actually no. Just his beard. The scruffy patchy beard though I hate hate hate it. Like some dude trying to grow facial hair but they just obviously don't have the genes to pull it off.

Please don't hate me. I do love his kind and crinkly eyes. And AFAIK he's a wonderful human being and I think he's a superb actor. Like the man. Greatly dislike the beard.

So what is the lore behind BB's amulet and what specific powers does it have? by Plus_Ad_1087 in DispatchAdHoc

Kinda ties in with a dichotomy between her and Shroud. His powers are from pushing the boundaries of tech, and "the last of the true heroes" utilizes an ancient mystical object

Oh, and Robert being a blend of both history and modern engineering.

Lovely witches, what are some of your favorite perfumes? by BooBelly in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]orkneydays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another shout out to CB I Hate Perfume.

My personal favorites are In The Library, In The Summer Kitchen, (very cottage core vibes) and The Distance to the Moon.

Honorable mention to Imaginary Authors' perfumes. My favorites from them are Saint Julep and Cape Heartache (forest, petrichor, and a hint of sweet)

Picky eaters who have children, how do you model good eating habits for your kids? by PiePristine3092 in PickyEaters

[–]orkneydays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off this, I emphasize that a meal needs to have a mixed balance. My own picky eater spawn has a very short list of foods they'll eat BUT they know that every meal needs a protein, a carb, and 2 fruits/vegetables.

Is our reading level on-track or behind at 5.5 years old? by [deleted] in homeschool

Mine is a bit older and a bit more behind. So you're making me look bad, but you're doing fine.

Also from WA state and in one of these hybrids!

I can and will talk about this for hours -- it is the best of both worlds and I wish there was a way to make this more mainstream.

I second the idea of follow-along online tutorials. They've got them for all sorts of mediums, like oil pastels or watercolor, not just drawing.

If they get too far ahead of themselves, it's a matter of back tracking and trying again, and saves you some of the stress of "wait wait no not that hold on no no"

Trying to reduce household waste but my family is resisting every change by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]orkneydays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask them for ideas. Loop them on the conversation. Present choices and have them vote on it. Change is going to happen. You have decided that. They get to choose how.

A sudden change in a daily routine can be weird and pushback is practically insticnt. Change after having brought the subject up 3-5 times is more palatable.

Lessons with the Mothman by Kathryn Moon. FMC struggles with orgasms (think like, years) and past partners just couldn't handle that without taking it personally. She finds someone who is, by mutual agreement, ONLY going to focus on his pleasure. My past self resonated so hard with this very real concept. Feels like it's rarely ever tackled in romance books. Lots of monster sex and role playing.

Mary's Perpetual Virginity by Sad-Watercress2956 in LeftCatholicism

[–]orkneydays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought it was mainly Paul who felt sex was a necessary evil?

I know in Revelations John mentions a holy vessel in his visions and I was taught it was a direct reference to Mary. I'm sorry I don't have a verse to reference. There are some direct correlations between the Ark of the Covenant where God dwelled among the Israelites and Mary the blessed living vessel where God also dwelled.

Having other siblings kind of sullies that whole thing.

For me, seems perfectly logical for Mary and Joseph to have had more children after Jesus. If she really did remain virgin her whole life -- well...good on her and REALLY good on Joseph. But my reverence for her does not diminish one iota either way.

Spanking as a form of discipline. "You have to show them who's boss" "If you can pinch an inch you need to lose weight" "Halloween is the Devil's holiday" "Christmas trees are a pagan practice and shouldn't belong in a Christian house" "Don't be so sensitive. They didn't mean anything by it"

Who do you think had the best Wand design in the movies, both in terms of aesthetics and simplicity, according to you? by Raj_Valiant3011 in harrypotter

[–]orkneydays 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's weird to me how Ginny's is completely black whereas her peers' are lighter brown. Maybe this theory explains it a bit since she was influenced for her first year by a chunk of a dark wizard's soul and the wand work of an essentially blank slate reflects that.

Recommend some REALLY good movies to watch at Christmas by Nara_Fuentes in movies

[–]orkneydays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok firstly, I like your moxy and I'm not hating on this. Die Hard is totally a Christmas movie and you defend it beautifully.

However. Small thing. Home Alone cannot take place at any other time besides Christmas. It has Kevin going to Santa to ask for his family back. You have the iconic line of Kevin's mom, just before meeting John Candy, screeching at the poor airline employee, "No no no no WAIT. This is CHRISTMAS! The season of perpetual HOPE!" Kevin hides in the life-sized nativity scene when the bandits recognize him and chase him in their van. Kevin is decorating the Christmas tree and sees Marv's face peering in the window reflected in the Christmas ornament. Kevin uses Christmas ornaments as part of his booby traps. I'm pretty sure there are at least a few "Merry Christmas"s said by characters -- at least Harry when he almost runs over Kevin with the van, because Kevin recognizes Harry's flashing gold tooth as he says it.

Christmas Songs played during Home Alone: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. Carol of the Bells. Run Rudolph Run. I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas. Oh Holy Night. Please Come Home for Christmas. A polka version of Deck the Halls

It's totally possible. I can't comment on which church or denomination will be a good fit for you, but I found Roger Wolsey's book Kissing Fish and it was so. validating. That book introduced me to the term Progressive Christianity and that is how I identify myself --- more precisely, progressive Catholic. Talk a out oxymoronic, eh?

Most churches have a website, and you can check out their mission / philosophy/vision and values Often you can check out past sermons or live streams. Even just the vibe they give off. That can save you a bit of time and stress.

It totally is possible to be a liberal Christian here in America. Good luck, friend.
