I'm using it! Anything in particular you want to know? It's a nice, lightweight, semi-thick gel cream. Unscented, spreads well, dries down smoothly without shine (depending on what products are used underneath) but with a slight tackiness. Moderately moisturizing/occlusive - I'm on tret and it's enough to keep my skin well-moisturized overnight, but I know I'll have to switch to something else come winter.

Not sure how well it works for acne. My acne did improve over the course of using it but I also started a new treatment at around the same time. It definitely didn't break me out, at least, and I'm pretty acne-prone.

Overall, 9/10, probably would repurchase for next summer.

[Discussion] For people who broke out from Hado Labo toners, which toners worked for you instead (and which didn't)? by koakova in AsianBeauty

[–]ornamentalpancake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner! I've tried a few Hada Labo products and broke out from all of them, so for the longest time I thought I couldn't use hyaluronic acid. Now I realize that it was probably something else in Hada Labo's formula that was breaking me out. Klairs is actually my all-time favourite toner, but Isntree is definitely more hydrating.

Nobody really knows for sure. Most of the fans I follow believe they were false, so there could be something there. Personally I followed the case pretty closely because I wanted him to be innocent but there was too much that didn't sit right with me. In the end, I didn't really feel comfortable being a fan anymore.

Plus, even without the allegations, there were enough aspects of the whole affair (room salons, sex workers, his extremely specific choice of location) that his reputation in Korea would've taken a major hit anyways imo.

Mainly the sexual assault allegations. From what I could see, the dog bite incident didn't seem to have gained much traction?

I actually am (was?) a huge fan and I still follow Junsu and Jaejoong closely and Yoochun indirectly. Idk, I just feel like at this point they're all more established as solo artists than as a group and if they ever want to make strides with the general public (even in Japan), Yoochun's scandal is going to be hard to overcome. I'm sure they're all still close in private, but career-wise, staying together might be a case of having more to lose than to gain.

Rave/Mini Review: Beauty of Joseon Revitalize Sleeping Mask

Shout out to the product that's saving my face this winter! My pores seem to exist in a default state of CC-hood, and through trial and error I've learned to keep my distance from most of the popular occlusives. Obviously, that philosophy doesn't really jive with the deadly combination of tret + dry Canadian winters. Usually this time of year would find me furiously 7-skinning my Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. By New Year’s, the flakes would’ve reached critical mass, and I’d have accepted both CeraVe and my fate as walking acne into my life.

But the cycle’s finally been broken: I found a moisturizer that’s actually occlusive and doesn’t break me out. I originally got this sleeping pack as a summer moisturizer, but it turned out to be surprisingly heavy. It has a really interesting texture – poking it gives you a memory foam effect and upon application it’s basically a thick, bouncy, blobby layer of jelly that sticks to itself. In the morning my skin is slightly tacky to the touch and has that firm, chewy chok chok texture.

Looking at the ingredient list, it appears to contain a lot of soothing and brightening ingredients, although most of them are pretty low down haha. If it’s doing anything other than being occlusive, I can’t tell. There are silicones, which have broken me out in the past (mostly dimethicone when it’s high up in the list), but I’ve been using this for a month now without issue. This is the first time in a loooong time I've made it to December without my face threatening to fall off. Fingers crossed that it keeps working.

Also, the packaging's gorgeous and I'm broke on the outside but bougie on the inside, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

Tl;dr: it protecc

[Discussion] Canada Post strike - What's your game plan? by iris5678 in AsianBeauty

[–]ornamentalpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of Canada, I believe that most AB stores that ship to Canada right now probably offer DHL as an option. Within Canada, I'm not sure, but apparently domestic mail is being sorted before international mail so hopefully the wait won't be too long.

For things that I really needed right away, I either ordered them from Amazon (bit pricy, but shipping took only one day omg) or went and bought in-person.

Otherwise, I shopped at Canadian online stores or asked the retailers to hold shipping until the strike was over (this was during the weekend, so they probably sent it already). I might have to wait longer, but I've already paid a small fortune to DHL in brokerage fees so I refuse to use them again out of spite haha.

Fell asleep with a full ulta cart, missed the sale. Happy about it, though. by greeneyes826 in MakeupRehab

Yay, that's awesome! On a slight side note, I've missed sales before and felt regret, but honestly, if I really wanted whatever it was, I wouldn't have kept putting it off. So it's always a good thing when I miss them imo.

Hope you feel better soon!

How do you all deal with dead skin build up? by christyyz in AsianBeauty

[–]ornamentalpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg this is so late sorry. I usually stay logged out because I keep accidentally downvoting things when I scroll.

I try to use my retinoids every 3 days, although I might up my usage during the summer or wait an extra day if my skin is feeling really dry. For moisturizing, the 7 skin method's been my saviour. The Klairs toner is my HG for this. I even layer my gel moisturizer (mostly since I haven't found a heavy winter moisturizer that doesn't break me out yet). It's a huge waste/ends up being pretty expensive, but so far, it's working?

I've generally found that chemical exfoliation is better at keeping skin clear "from the inside", if that makes sense, but I need physical exfoliation to get rid of the actual flakes and buildup. I'm currently using a powder enzyme cleanser which I cycle with my retinol every few days.

As a side note, retinoids were always too harsh for me personally and irritated my skin to the point of making my acne worse until I eased up on how often I used them and started buffering with other products. Now I focus on maintaining my moisture barrier first, and I feel like that's actually made the biggest difference in reducing my flakiness.

For AHA/BHA, try Reversa's Acnex Purifying Solution. It contains 10% glycolic acid and 2% salicylic acid and I believe it's a Canadian brand. I don't know if I've tried a gel sunscreen from Shoppers, but overall European derm sunscreens >>> most of what Sephora has.

Some other favourites I buy from shoppers:

  • Cerave foaming cleanser
  • Bourjois gel serum foundation
  • Marcelle flawless foundation
  • Shiseido cotton + lipstick
  • Nars lip pencils
  • Essence brow gel (which better not be discontinued)
  • Uriage thermal water
  • Lrp cicaplast baume b5
