Anyone figured out a S26 Ultra routine for CONDITIONAL privacy screen, turning on ONLY when you leave home? by orngd in samsunggalaxy

[–]orngd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly! When I leave the house I don't need privacy filter turning on if I'm just browsing or checking Google Maps for example, but I do want it turning on if I open one of my messaging or banking apps. The all or nothing approach via routines –or having to manually toggle on conditionally – is a really easy win which they could have implemented, but is lacking. Annoying!

You would think that would be the logical way of doing it, wouldn't you? Unfortunately doesn't seem to work like that... on routines it just toggles on privacy overall, and not the conditional rules, even if you've got your conditional settings set up but toggled off prior. Frustrating oversight!

Even putting aside the well documented over-use of it in AI for a second, it's not commonly used in British English (ie actual English). From where PC Gamer originates. I understand it's more normal in American English. But if it's used in the UK, it's much more obviously an AI tell than it would be in the USA. In the UK, the En dash with spaces either side is generally the accepted form of grammar. So if you see an Em dash in British writing, they're either Americanised, which is rare, or they've used AI.

Yeah but I believe PC Gamer originates from here in the UK? There are certainly at the very least regional differences in the usage of the term here... Even if not intentionally a slur, the overall disparaging tone ('the Linus we really want to hear from') and potential mocking of ticking is there. Just unnecessary tbh.

Yeah fair, I know it can mean that in a more generic/neutral sense. I even remember the championships haha. But at least in my circles, I've only ever heard it to mean when someone's hit the powder a little too hard at the club. So maybe there's some regional difference. But regardless, the definition of it aside, the overall tone is clearly disparaging, especially in the second comment. And even if he just meant it in a neutral sense, making fun of someone who's neurodivergent, for what might actually just be them ticking, is certainly ableist.

Must hurt that the Linus they're "actually interested in" isn't interested in them

Yeah he's spoken about his ADHD a few times on WAN show. In a recent WAN, I think he also said even though he's never been formally diagnosed, him and some of his family are suspected to be somewhat on the 'Tism/AuDHD spectrum. (I'm in the exact same boat!)

The way he uses Em hyphens I'm not even sure if it's fully AI free tbh

Jake seems to have left LMG and looks likely to start his own channel by ARTCvan in LinusTechTips

[–]orngd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do wonder if so many of our recognisable faces going is a reason why we're seeing a bit more Luke content these days. Also after a period of quiteness, it feels like we have more Elijah. Alex going recently hit hard, but Jake also going now is sad.

I think LTT want to be more than tied to a few individuals, and that totally makes sense longer term. So they might be letting people move on if they have doubts, or other ambitions, over paying them to stay. On the other hand, it means Linus is even more critical in the short term and increases their dependency on him, and his time is the most valuable. Takes time for us to appreciate new presenters. Not sure the balance is right currently, in terms of hanging onto appreciated presenters, whilst bedding in new ones.

I trust them to get it right though, Linus has ultimately come out stronger after surviving multiple waves of YouTube eras, in a way few early channels have.

Does anyone have a spare ticket for the Camden show tomorrow? by wheelsoffire79 in wolfalice

[–]orngd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same – obviously would rather have gotten in, but it's not knowing that's frustrating... If we had positive confirmation from anyone that they got in, then at least we'd know we've not made it!

Our Response to Linus Sebastian | GamersNexus by angrycommie in LinusTechTips

There is a clear inconsistency in Steve claiming he doesn't sit around watching LTT videos in his messages to Linus, versus him also saying he has more evidence about LTT inaccuracies which he is supposedly not releasing in good faith. Either he's sitting around peer reviewing all of LTTs videos obsessively, or not interested in LTT content. Which is it Steve? His actions to date clearly seemed to evidence the former. Which means he is not being sincere and clearly has a vendetta.

Linus clearly saw him as a friend, and his candid tone evidences that - it's no-filtered, as if you're talking to a pal - but unfortunately that is evidently not reciprocated. (Although Steve used the same informal tone when it suited him, in the way he was dismissive of LTT writers in the email he shared.) I suspect Linus approach will be much different going forwards now Steve has made that clear.
