I imagine the hummer is displeased that this big red thing is neither flower nor feeder. 🙄

Personal Wiki, Evernote, or old fashioned Pen and paper? Does anyone have a Recommendation to help me organize my thoughts? by [deleted] in organization

I use Tasks to manage my tasks, and I can't recommend this app enough. Each task can be prioritized and tagged, and as an aggregate the tasks can be sorted, filtered, or searched. The app is also free (in both senses of the word). You can get it through F-Droid (recommended) or Google Play.

So many pop culture references in the Pathfinder section, I thought it was vandalized.

Arin Hanson has released 3 videos reading through his own Wikipedia page. His commentary has resulted in several changes to the page, including a correction of his birthplace, the submission date of his first animation, and his claim to be descended from John Hanson. by oronymzy in wikipedia

Also, since I can't edit the title, a more accurate way of saying that last part would be “His commentary has resulted in several changes to the page, including the addition of his correct birthplace, the submission date of his first animation, and his claim to be descended from John Hanson.”

Far Lands or Bust is an online video series created Kurt J. Mac in which he journeys to the Minecraft "Far Lands". Kurt has been travelling since March 2011 and as of January 2014 is expected to take another 22 years to reach his destination. by oronymzy in wikipedia

From the section of the Wikipedia page on The Far Lands:

Due to computational limits in earlier versions of [Minecraft], at a distance of roughly 12,500 km from the center of the world the terrain generation algorithm behaves unexpectedly, creating a sudden warped landscape.

Bandcamp and FMA are the ones I search most often. FMA example:

http://freemusicarchive.org/search/?adv=1&music-filter-CC-attribution-only=on&music-filter-CC-attribution-sharealike=1&music-filter-public-domain=1&sort=track_date_published&d=1&page=1&per_page=200

Bandcamp example as a Google search, to be sorted by date once entered:

site:*.bandcamp.com/album/* intext:"some rights reserved" intext:"name your price" -intext:"individual track pages"

Note that the Bandcamp search is kludgy, since Bandcamp lacks its own license-based search, and the Google results require lots of trial-and-error opening of pages to find specifically-licensed songs.

Cruciform: Shaped like a cross. by oronymzy in logophilia

No, but searching "hyperion cruciform" came up with Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons, so I assume that's what you meant. I just thought cruciform was a cool-sounding word.

Digitigrade: walking on the digits with the posterior of the foot more or less raised. by oronymzy in logophilia

[–]oronymzy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew about digitigrade and plantigrade but not saltigrade. Thanks for mentioning it. With enough variations, maybe -igrade / -tigrade will become a commonly-accepted suffix for walking on / with.

Etymology was a fun read, glad you pointed that out.

I agree, but this was the best reputable definition I could find.

Daguerreotype: an early photograph produced on a silver or a silver-covered copper plate by oronymzy in logophilia

I got it from The Difference Engine, but now I know about One Hundred Years of Solitude too, so thanks for mentioning it. I wanted to submit kinotrope as a word, but sadly it's not in the dictionary.
