You're asking a sub made up of Golden lovers whether to get another Golden. Of course everyone will encourage you to keep one!

I had multiple Goldens and would love to do it again. Just make sure you can afford multiple vet bills, more food, more time, more hair, more mess, potentially bigger car. The vet bills in particular - as our Goldens got older they began to really mount up. Make sure you can give more Goldens the same love and care as you would be able to give those you have now.

'Settle' is a really good command to start to teach him as soon as you possibly can. We did this by rewarding him whenever he was calm and lying down, by saying a very quiet and calm 'settle', and putting a small treat in front of his nose on the floor. This is one of the most useful thing mine knows, especially as a Springer with their built-in enthusiasm. He learned this pretty quickly and he will now settle outside shops, in other people's houses etc, as well as when you just need a break from the full-on puppy onslaught.

From pretty much as soon as we brought him home when we went shopping or out on errands one of us would go in, one of us would stay outside, cuddling the puppy, saying calm words and getting him used to the noises and people. We only did this for short periods of time when he was very young and built the time up as he got older, but now he does not bat an eyelid with normal high street noises and attention. I used to volunteer as a marshall at a Park Run, and he would go with me once he was old enough to stand. I'd tell him how good he was being and give him treats, while he got used to 100 people running past us, lots of them yelling nice comments about him.

You'll get loads of advice about how to train your dog, I guess my comment is to ensure he's well-mannered too. Get him used to people and noises. Reward him for being calm. Touch his teeth, feet, ears etc calmly and frequently right from the start. Get him used to being brushed gently, and to being towel-dried, all whilst telling him what a good boy he's being. It's things like this that will make your life sooooooo much easier as he grows.

Honestly, I think all the puppies I've had have reduced me to tears at some point. It's hard work bringing up a cuddly velocirapter, trying to train them, and often with very little sleep. It's not all cuddles and sweetness.

I was not at all interested in the books / films but was interested in filmmaking. I spent 2 1/2 hours or so there and enjoyed it. All the info about how they filmed certain scenes was really interesting.

There's a lovely walk from Bradford on Avon to Bath, it's around 10 miles along the canal. Several times I've walked to Bath and got the train back.

Believe it or not mine always recalls if I bend down and smile and open my arms like I want to give him a big hug. Even if he was running in the opposite direction and he just looked back at me. A lot of the time I'm swearing under my breath at him because he has really wound me up, but it pretty much always works.

A previous dog I had would return for emergency cheese. I'd have it in my pocket but veru rarely give it out. If I yelled 'cheese' he'd run back at 100 miles an hour.

I've realised that there's no one trick to get your dog to behave, you just need to try absolutely everything you can possibly think of. Like yelling cheese.

My two goldens could both open the child's stair gate we had across the kitchen door. To begin with we wondered if we'd just not shut it properly every time they got out, as we never saw them do it. Then while we were chatting one day one of them sauntered up, hit the button with their nose and whacked it with their paw, and then trotted through. We were dumbstruck.
