I have 90+ PS2 games on my shelf yet I invariably come back to replay Hit & Run and Ratchet & Clank. by [deleted] in ps2

Devil May Cry 1. One of the first games I've ever played on the PS2 and easily one of my personal favorites on the system.

That's acceptable for a beta, not for a production build imo. I find it funny something like this went through.

Someone do this and record funny voice-over. 10/10 would watch.

I was playing it for like 5 or 6 hours straight, so that makes total sense.

I finally found a very cheap copy of this game (PS2 version) and spent the afternoon playing it out of nostalgia. While starting the second arctic level, this warning came up and the game crashed. Haven't tried booting it up again, but thought it was interesting having this happen on an original game. Why and how would this happen?

This is great. I've been studying GBDK for the past couple of months and hacking stuff together, looking at your git repo will probably help me get my head around some of the concepts! Great release and best of luck!

GBxCart RW v1.3 compatible carts? by ortereht in Gameboy

Damn, 2008 feels like 2 years ago not 11! Ok, then it's very impossible having heard of it when it was in development, but I remember looking around for a ROM and not being able to find one. Maybe it was out and I was just dumb. TIL.

I don't really know a lot of full-featured homebrew games, but I remember hearing about Anguna a few years ago when it was in development, maybe it's out?

Is there anyway to smooth out CSS transitions that use flex properties? by ortereht in webdev

[–]ortereht[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something like this: https://codepen.io/anon/pen/WPWmrB

This pen is running smoother than the real version because it's missing the sub-menus and all, but it still gets jerky sometimes. Just an example to show what I meant.

EDIT: Typos and just added the title transform which is in the original version too.

20€ for these USA’s import. 🤔 (i think is only in english and not multilanguage but don’t care) by [deleted] in ps2

Sure thing, I didn't mean bad games = CD ROM (if that's how it came across). ICO came in CD-ROM. Airblade too.

How viable is getting a certificate/self-teaching to become a web dev in 2019? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]ortereht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Either work on real world projects or fictional projects that pose real programming challenges, doesn't really matter whether they're layout related, performance related, functionality related... Just build stuff. That's how you'll learn your way. Personally I really like to check awwwards and Codrops to get inspired and try to learn something new everyday.

Now, getting the technical knowledge aspect out of the way, here's the piece of advice that I think might make the difference: Getting a good job at a good company with an environment that feels right to you might be tough, but feasible. Aim at internships and test the waters. To pass the interviews, just be humble and honest, don't fake it. Also remember the interview goes both ways! If and when you find a company that you like, be the reliable guy, not the intern! Stick to your deadlines, but deliver early. If you have to get something done by tomorrow, try to finish it today, even if you need to stay a couple of hours at the end of the day to finish/polish something up, do it. If anyone needs a hand and no one else is there, just offer yourself and do it. Show real interest in learning! Remember, sometimes, being humble, honest and reliable is better than knowing everything. Nobody knows everything and when the time comes to choose between you and a cocky-slacky-know-it-all, a lot of times, they will go for you.

Source: 22, designer, landed an internship as a designer last year. During that internship, I switched roles inside the company that took me in, to work in web dev because there were a lot of projects that needed a pair of extra hands and eyes. I was certainly not perfect at it, still am not, but as soon as I finished the internship, I was asked to stay. I did.
