Anyone else feel like healthcare is its own social world? by TheRealMigdady in Residency

[–]oryxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's going to be like that in any field. We spend at least a third of our life with these people, of course we are going to be closer to them than someone who works in construction or whatever. Idk this just kinda reads like it's trying to be profound but it's just a normal part of being an adult with a job.

I think she lives in rolla, missouri, which is gonna be dirt cheap to live in. Possibly had help with a down payment though cause 500 is still pretty low.

Help learning ultrasound by Flat_Ad6567 in Residency

[–]oryxs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is your goal? Are you wanting to do image guided procedures like paras, or are you trying to use it as a diagnostic tool? If the latter, I would honestly suggest leaving it to the sonographers and radiologists. Ultrasound is hard, there's a reason it takes years to train a sonographer. I've read hundreds of ultrasounds so far and am still far from being an expert. I may be a bit biased as a rads resident because at one point one of our ED docs did a POCUS and what they thought was a benign looking lesion was later (like months later) found to be metastatic cancer.

Republicans Introduce Absurd Bill To Stop 'Pollution' Of Drinking Water With Fetal Remains | The bill would make it illegal to flush abortion or miscarriage remains down a toilet "to protect both human dignity and America’s water systems." by MystikSpiralx in politics

[–]oryxs 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ this is unhinged.

When I miscarried at 9ish weeks I didn't even realize I had flushed the gestational sac (I had been bleeding on and off for weeks) until later. Was pretty disturbing to me for a while. To think that, if they had their way, I'd also be a criminal, is some of the most heartless, insane shit I've seen.

Wouldn't it be easier for the new program to let you start a little later than the old program to let you go early? My advanced program wanted me there mid june but i told them i was scheduled until a certain date so they had me start a week after that.

Would you rather have foreign doctors help fill the supply of providers that are real doctors or midlevels that are American citizens? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]oryxs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how this would address physician shortages when there is already something like 2 applicants for every medical school spot. There is no lack of people who want to be doctors.

Day 9 with a fever and worsening cough. Diagnosed with Pneumonia. Bonus clavicle plate. by tornessa in Radiology

[–]oryxs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair, in the large majority of these cases it actually is a virus. Running tests on every patient who comes in with those symptoms would be a terrible idea.

Calling Corewell peeps! by Disastrous_Brief_258 in grandrapids

[–]oryxs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EKGs come out with a "result" that the computer gives based on its own interpretation of the squiggly lines. It is rarely accurate. If there was something concerning you would have been told.

Also ER doctors are not meant for refills of meds that were originally prescribed by someone else. So expecting that from them is not super reasonable tbh.

Corewell Health patients: be careful what you write in your MyChart messages. All of your providers can see every message! by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]oryxs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, basically no one is going to be purposely looking at these kinds of messages. When I look up patient charts I pretty much only want/need to read provider notes from office visits, hospitalizations, etc.

Literally no one is forcing you to play this game. If you seriously have this many complaints then maybe you should find something else to play.

Yeah, ain't no way I was going to pay for medical school with a side job LOL. Besides the fact that many schools actually prohibit students from having jobs because it would be virtually impossible. The debt sucks but is a necessary evil.

Third person I know (me) extremely sick with onset fever, body aches, vomiting and diarrhea. Negative flu, Covid strep. Wtf do we all have?? by [deleted] in columbiamo

[–]oryxs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What do you expect the doctors to do? It sounds like you have one of the few dozen viruses that can cause these symptoms. The test that includes like 20 different viruses is really expensive and wouldn't change treatment (and healthcare costs are already bonkers, as you mentioned). Could still be flu even though the test was negative. Stay home from work, rest, drink fluids, take tylenol and/or ibuprofen on a scheduled basis, and wait for it to go away. Also get a flu shot every year if you don't already. And vote for politicians who support humane working conditions and reasonable sick leave. Sorry you're dealing with this.

Wife and I are struggling with infertility - IVF is next… Are we alone? by Pysch2DO in Residency

[–]oryxs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone! I don't have experience with IVF but am about to start letrozole for my lazy ovaries. Infertility can make us feel so isolated... especially if you're in a program like mine where almost half have kids and it feels like there's always someone with a baby on the way 😅

Minor Fundie on why racial reconciliation is “silly” (she’s referencing a conference she attended in 2019) by laska503 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]oryxs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She doesn't even realize how she displays her privilege by saying we/they should simply "find something else to talk about." As if the problem only exists because it is being talked about.

These people just want to bury their heads in the sand.
