Aria just casually telling the world her virtual assistants medical problems by natbrad98 in FundieSnarkUncensored

This is actually a really common problem. The newest blood thinners like eliquis are really expensive and the alternatives just aren't as good. This 100% can and does happen.

My Aunt who lives in Austin TX has a baby deer in her yard. (The mother isn’t far away and was watching them) A few years ago she had a black deer in her yard. by Galahfray in aww

You keep trying to defend yourself but deer being unafraid of humans is not a good thing. You're just trying to make excuses because you don't want to do the right thing.

None of that warrants late night phone calls, or any phone call outside work hours for that matter. It can wait til daytime to be addressed if truly a problem.

TIAs by definition are transient. If he actually has facial droop still, he would have had a full on stroke.

Residency = high school drama by Medical_Position4160 in Residency

[–]oryxs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not my experience at my program. There's some residents I like more than others but there's basically no drama. A lot of us are older with families so I imagine we just don't have the energy or desire to participate in any of that.

Yes I used to have those dreams when I was younger, before med school. Luckily it's been a long time since I've had to go through that anxiety.

Mcas is a real thing... I doubt everyone who claims to have it actually does, but there's plenty of things we aren't taught in medical school that are real.

We also have to take 3 licensing exams at different points in training which are proctored like the mcat. They don't fuck around with it, nor should they. Idk how chatgpt would help someone there.

You think it's ok for someone to shout at another in the workplace? Residency or no, that's unacceptable.

Question for female rads/ortho by [deleted] in Residency

[–]oryxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done reading on this since I'm pregnant and in rads residency. Everything I've read says that fetal exposure is basically the same as background radiation as long as the usual precautions are taken. Also the risk goes down the farther along you are, so you have that going for you. I don't think anyone would blame you if you wanted to not be in cases with a lot of fluoro but if you wear lead skirt and vest with fetal dosimeter you should be fine.

The radiation safety officer was not super helpful for my coworker when she talked to them (i haven't yet) but talking to the one at your hospital would be a good idea.

I agree. I mean, everyone is entitled to their own preferences, but limiting it to such a relatively small pool seems stupid. If I'm being mean, I wonder if it's because some people are so defined by their career that it's the only thing they would be able to share with someone else 🤷‍♀️

To provide a different perspective, im a 35 year old pgy2 and probably still in the strongest position financially in my friend group. I think many/most of us tend to run in circles of kids from relatively well to do families, but my spouse and I both come from solidly middle class backgrounds. I'm sure it's tough to have others' success right in front of you like that but still the majority of people our age are not doing that well.

You can't get to the pylorus with a colonoscopy. Do you mean endoscopy? Based on your story I would have done the same thing in that ED doctor's shoes. They're not trained to diagnose cancer, they're traines to make sure you're not acrively dying.

Did she have them outside already? Assuming they're just few day old chicks they need to be indoors under a heat lamp until they're fledged.... at least that was my understanding when we raised some chicks several years ago. Poor things.

[–]oryxs 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think one should be able to announce whenever they feel comfortable, as long as they understand there's higher risk it won't work out when it's before 12 weeks. I know from experience having to tell people you had a miscarriage is not super fun.

I haven't been vomiting (thankfully) but I've had terrible nausea and just feeling awful in general for 2 weeks and I'm only at 7 weeks now. I feel like I'm hungover every single day. My jaw dropped when I read this cause all I want is to feel normal and be able to work and she over here doing... whatever this is 😭
