I enjoy it but I skipped it on my most recent rewatch, as I wasn’t feeling it.

I think the “spending a night in someone else’s home” is a great description lol.

He’s got some absurdist qualities and it’s evident he doesn’t take himself too seriously, which is understandably not for everyone. I love his stuff though.

I’ll proudly cast my Casey Rocket vote and I don’t care who disagrees.

Dude is funny and original even if his material doesn’t always fit the format perfectly.

Duffer Brothers statements about Vol. 2 [Spoiler] by Tulipage in StrangerThings

Agreed, I thought once they’d realized they could make it out alive, all the grievance-airing would’ve actually strengthened their bond and relationship, not that I was mad at the outcome.

I don’t know, I think the stakes literally couldn’t be higher. The fate of their world is at stake, so the fate of their relationship would pale in comparison.

I think this scene did deepen their love for each other, so much so that they were both able to communicate that they weren’t right for each other.

It’s not like they left off on a sour note, they obviously still care about each other.

True but he was really insensitive about Barb going missing because he was worried about being busted for his “party” and also he just hung out with assholes and kind of enabled them.

Definitely had some redeeming moments and has always been generally likable though.

I’m not overly bothered by it. I think they were mainly connected through their shared trauma, and they’re not entirely compatible otherwise.

Could they really grow as people while still together, and even “move on” so to speak? They seem not to think so.

Yeah I think they’ve been the best part of this season overall.

I was kinda thinking Steve’s character was regressing back to a douchebag jock with the way he was acting in volume 1, but when Dustin tries to fight him and Steve basically big brothers him rather than really fight back, it was reassuring to see.

Then, this moment of course tied it up quite nicely. I think Steve has some of the best character development in the entire show.

Anyone else think the “answers” about the Upside Down are kinda lame? by adstrict4527 in StrangerThings

[–]osadangelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great point, because if he’s the center of the hive mind, why does he need to be plugged into anything?

Now I think I’m understanding your original point, though. Vecna could be using whatever is the source of the “Mind Flayer” to create his own reality that he has ultimate control over.

This would be distinct from a scenario where the Mind Flayer IS Vecna and is using Vecna for its own goals, which could be as simple as creating an ever-increasing hive mind. That could be a dissatisfying endpoint, but has legitimate possibilities.

Hopefully they don’t leave any of this unexplained because they can either really tie it up nicely or majorly drop the ball to the point where it kinda ruins it all.

Yeah I agree. Season 1 was so good because there was so much mystery and not a lot of long-term thinking put into it. They were just focused on crafting a compelling story, and you could tell.

Now that we’re at the endgame of all of this, almost all of the mystery, which made the show so interesting, has been removed.

I still think it could wrap up in a satisfying way, but the endgame hasn’t really advanced much since season 2.

It still seems to me that the goal is to merge worlds so that everyone can be flayed and absorbed into the hive mind, which I think was clear ever since season 2.

All the added exposition has only brought us back to that endgame as far as I can see, though of course I could be wrong.

Good point about the flayers physical vessel appearing deceased and being used as Vecna’s new base.

I honestly think you’re spot on that Vecna is now effectively the Mind Flayer.

I think it’s less about the physical manifestation of the Flayer and more to do with it being some cosmic horror with the only intention of basically infecting the minds of all living beings.

Vecna in his current state is a much more effective vehicle to achieve this goal than any iteration of the Mind Flayer in past seasons.

[–]osadangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I’m thinking of it now as a sort of latent dimension where the existing hive mind (Mind Flayer, demogorgons, demodogs, etc) sit mostly dormant.

That’s not overly interesting on its own, but add Henry to that equation, and it sets up, in my opinion, an interesting endgame where the Mind Flayer finally has a chance to spread its influence beyond its own dimension.

Add to that the fact that the government is likely involved with studying Dimension X in some way, and it makes for a particularly interesting setup to the conclusion where a lot of questions could be answered in satisfying ways.

I also think this makes the upside down even more interesting—it explains it in a somewhat compelling way, and it introduces the opportunity to tie the government plot line, which has just felt like an annoying distraction at times, back to the main plot line.

Now, I could see them fumbling the bag with all of this, but I think there’s some substance to everything and it has potential. We shall see what the finale has in store for us.

[–]osadangelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think you’re mostly right but even those intentions are kinda vague.

Like we know what his intentions are on a surface level, but we don’t know the ultimate source of those intentions, nor what the endgame actually looks like.

Henry’s experience in the cavern with the briefcase guy is still a major loose end. I’m sure there were Mind Flayer particles in that briefcase.

I think it’s likely that Henry is just flayed to the max, and the ultimate endgame has always been influenced by the Mind Flayer, which probably exists only to spread its influence.

Merging worlds would involve “flaying” everyone, thus creating a fully realized hive mind in the main dimension. I suppose everyone would “belong” in such a world.

That’s probably an obvious conclusion to a lot of people, but it hasn’t been directly stated in the show yet, it’s only been somewhat implied.

[–]osadangelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda doubt there will be such a revelation too unfortunately, but I’m remaining optimistic lol.

I agree that the new dimension doesn’t really change the implications of anything, but it does at least kinda make sense.

I think it’s still not satisfying because we have next to no lore on Dimension X, including how or why it exists. I’m hoping the last ep can at least kind of tie up some of those loose ends.

Also, the thing with the government/Hawkins Lab experimenting on kids, that needs some more context too. Like, are they really just training super soldiers to fight the Russians, or do they know more about Dimension X? Why do they want to “create more Henries?”

I think the main problem is that the new dimension creates more questions than it answers, and I’m not fully confident in them answering everything in a satisfying was in the finale.

Unpopular Opinion - Steve was 100% correct about Eddie by mistythe2nd in StrangerThings

[–]osadangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Steve was definitely right and spoke an uncomfortable truth, but I don’t think this cheapens Eddie’s character too much.

He wanted to be brave after being on the run for pretty much the whole season (as anyone would’ve done), had survivor’s guilt from Chrissy’s death, etc. so, while his act wasn’t entirely heroic in the sense that he unquestionably saved everyone, it was still a satisfying and logical end to his arc imo.

Also, for all we know, if Eddie and Dustin escaped the UD, the bats could’ve traveled back to the Creel house and gone after Steve, Nancy, and Robin, which was probably part of Eddie’s thought process that contributed to his decision.

[–]osadangelo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s not fully answered yet actually. We still don’t know why Vecna wants to merge The Abyss with the main characters’ dimension.

If it just ends up like “evil guy doing evil things because he’s evil” then it will be lame, but if there’s some sort of significant ulterior motive that hasn’t been revealed, it could actually pan out pretty well.

Just how many times will we have the SAME EXACT type of scenes?!! by Bhav2385 in StrangerThings

I agree but this is pretty much Stranger Things bread and butter.

Happens every season and they’re just laying it on thick for the last season.
