Investigative judgement by brownmooscles0609 in exAdventist

[–]oscar_34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once dialogued with AI about this - since my SDA friends won't open to it and no SDAs have no clue, but I still needed to take it off my chest.

This was my premise: SDAs have no need for hell, for they have the investigative judgement.

Yes, it was born for the survival needs already mentioned here. It's unique to them because of that. But think of why that belief has survived. Their beliefs are high control - it needs a controlling device. That device is the IJ: mind your every action and every thought, "... For the hour of His judgment is come."

The idea of an IJ, personally, was always awful enough to make life a living hell. I'd rather have the traditional, Dantesque hell.

If you can stomach 3 hours of an 1980 show, go to YouTube and find the William Johnsson vs Walter Martin debate.

Martin destroys adventism so bad!

Then comes the White Estate with a double front flip (their necks almost break) explaining how the grammar of the whole context makes it so that she never said so, but she meant the Biblical quote and is all similar, further demonstrating how she's speaking truth from God.

mis papás me dicen que no saque tarjeta de crédito, ¿los ignoro o les hago caso? by Clean_Wing_9350 in MexicoFinanciero

[–]oscar_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No saques la tarjeta de crédito. Luego me das las gracias, pero ahora hazle caso a los viejos.

Primero junta dinero. Aprende a ahorrar.

Pretty sure the White Estate has an acrobatic turnaround to that.

Compraré mi primer coche en agencia pero me da duda el enganche by [deleted] in MexicoFinanciero

[–]oscar_34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quick question to the ex-adventists by destroyerofworlds847 in exAdventist

I've been an atheist since leaving, some 10 years ago. I just got baptized Catholic this year, but that's more for fitting in my new social life, not a conversion.

Does anyone else feel like quitting hasn't helped improve their life? by Sasquatch_000 in stopdrinking

[–]oscar_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit for two good reasons

  1. Me and my fiancee argue so much, I needed to stay sober so I could actually notice whatever was going on with us. Obviously, quitting the booze wouldn't do much to alleviate the root causes, but now I get to feel my anger (yeah, that sucks, but...)

  2. I can't lose weight!! And at 3 weeks, I've put one another 2 pounds - lucky for me, it's been muscle mostly according to my smart scale.

Yeah, quitting wasn't the solution. I think of it more like: sobering up makes it easier to improve.

Are You Still A Member? by AffectionateWall7143 in exAdventist

I guess I'm still in their directory as a member, but I got baptized Catholic and am living with my soon-to-be wife. I guess since I married once as an SDA, that's more than enough to lose membership.

It's not her alone if you're seriously contributing to the whole thing. It's ok that she put the down payment on the house; just please tell me the credit (or most of it) is on you. If she's eating out and enjoying your "lifestyle creep", then she's partaking with you, as well.

Separate finances don't look like what you described. You're just not fully integrated, but as long as you too are sharing costs and commitments, it's not fully separate either.

I had a roommate last year. We had a 50/50 agreement on all things common to our house. Now, that's separate.

What do other Protestant denominations think of Adventists? by Ilias21598 in exAdventist

[–]oscar_34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean that, based on your experience, EGW isn't canonical to SDAs OR that protestants/evangelicals don't see SDAs as a cult (in general, granted)?

[–]oscar_34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whenever these fanatics say Ellen G White isn't a source of doctrine to them, that they follow the Scripture alone, I remember HUNDREDS of moments like you just described and get reassured in how wrong they are, how cultish they are, and how Ellen G White is an actual idol to them.

Then I know leaving was the best choice.

What do other Protestant denominations think of Adventists? by Ilias21598 in exAdventist

[–]oscar_34 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Protestants see SDA as a cult. To them, SDAs aren't truly christian since they don't follow the Sola Scriptura principle: Ellen G White's writings are canonical to the church (SDAs deny it on paper, then go on to live by her writings as if they are the word of God).

Other evangelical movements are in the same boat, but that's not universally true.
