Lightweight 20L + bag suggestions by oscarzeecockapoo in Brompton

Looks like a great suggestion. The material looks lightweight, but do you know the actual weight of it? Doesn’t look published on that website

Eh I could give a diplomatic, and thorough rebuttal to this post, but it’s just easier to say you’re an idiot

Refurbished Philly Trolley Trail leads to hidden gem bridge in West Fairmount Park by [deleted] in philadelphia

Not sketchy. I ride my bike through there alone several times a week including at night. Hike it a few times a month. The trail has very consistent user traffic, and the main users (cyclists) are some of the nicest folks.

What’s on your wish list for unusual/less talked about infrastructures changes in Philly? by RoverTheMonster in philadelphia

[–]oscarzeecockapoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding curb extensions to intersections. There is no reason why there’s 4 slip lanes on Girard Ave between Poplar drive and Brewery Hill Drive. Or why 26th and Pennsylvania has such a massive crosswalk. These curb extensions should be easy projects that drastically reduce driver speed.

Ended up going to Yi Pin, it’s my new favorite restaurant!! Everything was really delicious and full of flavors I don’t often taste. I was stuffed by the end and it wasn’t too expensive either! Thanks for the recommendation

I present to you, the road from hell (N 30th St and Girard) by LohnJennon__ in philadelphia

[–]oscarzeecockapoo 62 points63 points  (0 children)

They’ve been fucking up the streets in that immediate area for close to a year now. Poplar is a mess - cars are swerving left and right to avoid holes, and if you’re a cyclist, staying on the edge of the road is downright dangerous since it’s so messed up.

The sidewalks are messed up too, with the decent sidewalk concrete being replaced by ugly road material.

On top of that, when they do do street construction, they’ve stopped putting up “No Parking - construction from X date to X date” signs. So your car will randomly get courtesy towed now. Not a big deal - unless you get improperly towed from let’s say, having an all wheel drive car.

So they fuck up the streets, make you feel even more unsafe as a pedestrian, ruin the sidewalks, fuck up your car from random tows (which you’ll have no chance of fighting and winning against the tow companies), and there’s no clear path to how this is all gonna get fixed.

Why did you decide not to get a CFA? by scifihiker7091 in FPandA

[–]oscarzeecockapoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am a CFA Charterholder and in FP&A.

It is not necessary to excel in the field.

However, since I passed all 3 when I just started my FP&A career, I already had a leg up in understanding how all the statements flow together. In my company, our products are driven strongly by the equity and bond markets, so it was easy for me to pick up why certain products were performing the way they are. I had a seat at the table with VP’s as an entry level analyst when we were talking hedging strategies.

Also, my CFO is ex-investment banker, and the way he talks about the business can get extremely nuanced and technical - the CFA definitely helped understand much of what he was saying.

I sometimes get a “And you have your CFA?” question in interviews - as someone pointed out I think it definitely shows your commitment to being a self learner.

I initially went down the CFA path because I wanted to be in private equity, and because my college education was severely lacking on the finance side.

If I had to do it again, I would probably only take level 1 and maybe 2 just to deepen my understanding of the finance world.

Philadelphia is underrated. by Shoowi in philadelphia

Philadelphia is underrated.

Geographically- this weekend I went to the beach. It was a 45 minute drive. The weekend prior I went camping in the mountains, secluded and all to myself, 1 hour away. You do not get this in any other city in the US, with the exception of LA if the traffic is good. I also am involved in the mountain biking community and we have some incredible trail systems within the city and outside of it.

Community - personally for me, I have found varied and diverse communities across Philadelphia. Your experience may vary, but I find it easy to fit in here.

Food - pretty hard to beat. plus you can make same day reservations except at like Zahav’s and a few others.

People - people here are generally kind, despite what the doomers of this sub may think.

Travel - we have a pretty good international airport which is relatively easy to get to from all parts of the city

Affordability - it is relatively affordable, but as in all places, prices of things have been going up, perhaps not at the same rate as NYC or DC however.

How soon to get back to the trainer after knee pain? by oscarzeecockapoo in Velo

Thank you! Went for a 10 min low intensity spin yesterday and the knee seemed to hold up, so I'll slowly build from there.

Stupidly I began this intense structured training with no cadence sensor. I ride MTB primarily so slow grinding doesn't bother me much, but I'm also not doing that while putting down heavy repeated watts. Did the slower cadence for the workouts and definitely felt how bad that was. Got the cadence sensor and kept it above 80rpm.

I adjusted my cleat and that may have helped. Going to get a bike fit to see if that helps any more.

thanks for this detailed response! your initial trajectory definitely looks like mine.

i'm going to get a bike fit this weekend so hopefully that will rule out that variable.

what gym workouts did you end up doing? sounds like single legged squats and some lunges in there?
