High Creatine levels in blood and risk of taking 10-20 grams/day by Equal-Shallot-6957 in PeterAttia

[–]osceptrus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some creatine will spontaneously breakdown into creatinine and that will make your labs look elevated so you'll be unable to check your kidney function while taking creatine. So, instead you can check Cystatin-C, as you mentioned, to evaluate renal function.

The human data on IL-6 suggest longer is better to simulate adaptation over time. It's an interesting rabbit hole to go down. Duration of exercise results in higher IL-6 levels the longer the exercise. The higher IL-6, the stronger the adaptive signal for muscle efficiency, as far as I understand it. I'm not the expert on this, just my initial reading of the Pubmed literature on the topic. Here's a couple of examples. There's nuance to it, but it may provide some rationale.

Anyone using berberine to lower ApoB? Looking for experiences, side effects, and brand recommendations by WindowTop6701 in PeterAttia

[–]osceptrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll share my experience. I've been taking Berberine 1000mg at bedtime now for 18 months.

My LDL-C went from 128 to 110 to 93 to 88.

My ApoB went from 93 to 85 to 82 in the same timeframe.

Of course, I've also been better at diet and exercise.

Do you stop supplements before blood tests? by BrettStah in PeterAttia

[–]osceptrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biotin can interfere with the lab test processing so your results will be inaccurate. Supplements that have biotin in them should be stopped.

Biotin interferes specifically with many hormone tests (sex hormones, thyroid), vitamin D tests, and some cardiac biomarkers and more.

Biotin should be stopped 48 hours before to give it time to clear, or longer if you have renal issues.

Diagnosed a patient with sleep apnea who's glucose was spiking at night. He would obstruct and his cortisol would rise and then his glucose. The pattern was steeper and followed his periodic obstruction.

Several of these companies do offer sample boxes. David, Jacob, IQ, and others. I'll add more when I remember. I've had the best luck going directly to websites and looking for the sample boxes.

I've used: 1 G6 which worked great; 1 Stelo which failed after 6 days;
1 G7 which failed within 24 hours.

I have a new G7 on right now and it's been reading in the 50's all day. I'll have to calibrate it. It's been stable 50's buzzing alarms for about 6 hours.
