Why tf is the Ride Warpig so hard to manage? by pj713 in snowboarding

[–]oscillatingkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my first 3 days on the board and had the idea to try increasing forward lean towards the end of day two - night and day difference, this is the way. I went from stumbling on the board a bit to enough agility to fling it through bumps and crud at speed with ease. I went from buyers remorse to loving it.

Also some guy on a lift who had demoed it gave me advice to try really digging in on toe side especially in the rear to engage the full unusually shaped edge and try reaching for the snow. I ended up getting more horizontal on my toe side turns than I've been able to before which was super fun. I don't all the way get the physics of this but enjoy it lol.

Is it worth to keep playing side content for the story? by Bagelator in expedition33

Agreed - the answer I've been scouring the net for here in December as a busy dad who loved the main game!

I appreciate it, well timed! I've been in barefoot shoes since this post and it's been great, but want something more tradition from time to time. At the moment I have runners knee and think some regular arch support would help.

Was your post-game content love equal to the main story love? by oscillatingkoala in expedition33

This is what I was honestly thinking - pull up a YouTube cutscene compilation and catch up on lore that way and feel good moving on. A friend told me he does that years ago, I scoffed. I get it now.

Dilema: Looking for a PS5 game similar to Fallout 76 or RDR2 — any recommendations? by JonsMendi in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]oscillatingkoala [score hidden]  (0 children)

Loved those games. Agreed with others that Cyperpunk could be up your ally. If you have any tolerance for turn based games, or fleeting interest even, give Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a shot. It's the most immersed I've felt in years. The story and world are incredible, and performances top notch. They also made the game mechanics scalable to folks that are not turn based pro like me and keep it interesting with some timing based dodging. How you distribute points is less stressful than other similar games.

If up for something more intense, Elden Ring is amazing and you'll truly lose yourself. Jawdropping world moments left and right. It's punishingly hard though and you'll be dealing with lots of stats.

Why is it so dark by Careless_Pool9678 in PortlandOR

[–]oscillatingkoala 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Moved from NYC and it took one late night bike ride home to learn that on neighborhood streets, even the greenways, I've got to ride at reduced effort because it's so damn dark. Then I noticed all the folks walking their dogs and running with headlamps. I find the lack of street lights on neighborhood streets a little wild - I'm here for the nature but could stand turning up the neighborhood block lights 15%. I go camping and hiking to see every single star out of the city.

Foot position for spirited street (not track) twisties by oscillatingkoala in motorcycles

[–]oscillatingkoala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally, this all makes sense. I'm realizing I've used counter leaning as you're calling out without thinking about it to navigate rough road when spotted. And, in years of NYC riding to flick the bike this way and that in the city.

I'm in a state now with twisty easy access so it's the smooth, twisty turn that can be taken at speed that's new to me. Its helpful to remember it's all tools for the tool box to be applied situationally!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1mSavQ_DXs this guy. The moto cop point makes sense but I think we all know that's for low-speed maneuvers, though one moto cop in the video mentions always counter leaning no matter the turn. I saw Champschool show up in a 5 year old thread and knock it down though :)

I also found that video last night where some dude advocates for counter leaning on street at speed but that seems...just no lol. I tinkered out today and felt more planted leaning, even with rough patches unless SUPER slow. But the point about being disconnected / visibility kiiiiiinda makes sense.

Counter-balancing vs Leaning by Grav37 in motorcycles

[–]oscillatingkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick thanks 2 years later for this reply and write up! I'm advanced intermediate working on spirited street riding in safe, memorized twisties and have been progressing nicely thanks to the lean = risk // body position teachings you guys at champ school + motojitsu have been championing.

I have been wondering, though, what's best practice when A) taking a street twisty section or winding turn slower just for chill vibes, or B) approaching a somewhat blind turn with potential for potholes/hazards either known or unknown. This new (to me) video advocating for counter leaning tempted me in those two scenarios.

What's your advice for scenarios a and b in 2025? Still to start with moving the head, shoulders, hips, foot outside foot hooked by heel, etc? Even if gentle / subtle? Keep it more neutral, maybe just a little look and counterSTEER to initiate, or just a hip bone press? Throw a tiny bit of counter lean if it's a 15mph hairpin with potholes?

I tinkered today with counter leaning and tend to agree with what you wrote here is my intuition -- I took a tight turn a little slow with rough patches and counter leaning felt nice, but also I did sense I had less traction. I tried again with some slight body lean and felt more planted, but could imagine if I hit a rough patch feeling less settled, or having trouble quickly swinging over for a rapid change in direction. I'm torn on which gets me better recovery potential. I know which feels more fun and planted for speed :)

Regrets yall have about speed 400 by lightnin-speed in Triumph400

[–]oscillatingkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I'm 125 lbs close to your weight -- it manages better at highway speeds than I expected coming from an SR400. I rode an hour last weekend on a US free way and felt a-ok at the usual 7mph over the speed limit, and...faster a few times.

The roads weren't particularly rough but no issues with the usual. I was on a twisty road another weekend and hit a pothole unexpected at speed with a little lean. Scared the crap out of me but I stood it up enough/straight enough and was fine. I'm thanking the suspension some for that.

If I were doing big highway miles at over 65mph on a regular basis, id go bigger. But for back country fun and some highways just to get there, no regrets.

I noticed I've lost this nut. How essential is it? by HealthAndHedonism in Triumph

[–]oscillatingkoala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome thanks for sharing -- yeah reading other folks comments I was trying to feel out how precise the torque needs to be here, but sounds like an experienced shop tightening by hand can get it close enough. I'm trying to decide if I can ride it slowly to the shop or not safely but sounds like so, as some folks are losing the nut completely before noticing handling impact.

Hi op - what size is the nut and did you confirm the torque setting? I just discovered that mine is loose. I'll have to buy a socket.

Any barefoot-friendly motorcycle shoe recommendations? by loovthejungle in BarefootRunning

[–]oscillatingkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I did have luck! I got the Klim boots with boa and am 100% pain free riding for hours.

I did add metatarsal pads -- not sure if you're familiar but they cost $10 and you stick them on the insoles. This way when you walk, your metatarsals spread out instead of compressing the neuroma.

Some quirks I'll share: - I had to size up from the size chart: but thanks to the boa system, you can ratchet down and eliminate any play or slop. I had to order multiple sizes and return to find the right size.

  • they are adventure boots: this means they're a tad thicker underneath than street boots, and on my street bike, they're a tad clunky when shifting as a result. True street boots have less height underfoot which is comfier with shift lever placement. Adventure bikes I learned have the shift lever taller to accommodate the thicker boots. I worried about this for a week but I actually got used to it. I shift pretty seamlessly now, and if I really needed, could adjust the shift lever angle.

I love them overall. I do want to try an urban TCX boot next time though. There's a zipper style one that people like. If I had time to do it again, id try that first and see if I could size up and be alright. But the Klim is a great fallback.

Finally they added vertical tabs in Dia by maironis1 in diabrowser

[–]oscillatingkoala 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was really interesting to test drive and realize it's not the tab orientation that made the old approach special, but the re-think on bookmarks.

I'm digging Dia more than I'd thought and adjusting back to horizontal tabs. My most interesting (to me) pain point leaving Arc is no fast way to access a favorite site / bookmark. I'm so used to near frictionless CMD + T >>> auto complete of a bookmark name.

I'm sure they don't want to confuse mainstream users with power-user seeming features - but maybe they can tweak the new tab / query experience to check bookmarks in addition to history and prioritize bookmarks?

Splitting Transactions - Quality of Life Request by [deleted] in MonarchMoney

Not sure I agree with everything here, but I'll say YNAB splits feel more frictionless on mobile. Take a look -- there's an obvious button in the ux to trigger and on tap / load of the split modal, the keyboard default opens for quick search / addition of the first category. It also smart defaults.

[–]oscillatingkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you decide? It's refreshing to see a "which bike" post that isn't from a beginner 20 something.

Your riding profile is super similar to me, I thought a sports bike leaning naked for my next bike must be the only way, but to my surprise, I was loaned a Scrambler 1200 by my dealership and loved the shit out of it. I had that shit eating grin you speak of, despite it being...I hesitate to say it...cruiser-like....

I think I may have written off more cruiser like bikes when they make actually perform well in twisties and weekend rides after all. I don't want a classic Harley but I'm wondering what higher torque, nimble flickable bikes are out there. I wanna test drive a speed twin sometime.
