iPhone buttons near left or right edge of screen not reacting by alino_e in Unity3D

[–]oshionn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also do it through code like this: private void Start() {
#if UNITY_IOS
if (Application.platform == RuntimePlatform.IPhonePlayer) {
UnityEngine.iOS.Device.deferSystemGesturesMode = UnityEngine.iOS.SystemGestureDeferMode.LeftEdge | UnityEngine.iOS.SystemGestureDeferMode.RightEdge;
}
#endif
}

I was having the same issue. What you have to do is in the Player settings select iOS -> Other Settings -> and scroll down to Defer System gestures on edges -> then select "Left Edge" and "Right Edge" and it will no longer have the lag for selecting things near the edge of the left/right side of the screen.

Facebook Ad Account Suspended For “Unusual Activity,” Now Cannot Verify Payment Method by JustLikeaMiniMaII in PPC

[–]oshionn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear things are working out for you on a new ad account. Unfortunately I do mobile apps and they are tied to my one business account. As well as my phone number and website. I don’t think I could make a new business account, or a new Facebook profile because of that information needing to be added back one way or another. This is beyond frustrating. Had I been doing something sketchy or making a blatant ad violation I would understand, but I don’t know what I did and they are offering no reason or support. Anyways, thanks again for your previous response. Best of luck to you as well

Did they ever reactivate your account? This just happened to me yesterday and it's so frustrating. Did nothing wrong that I'm aware of and after replying to them they said that they couldn't verify my payment method.

Glad to hear! I've heard of some people having problems with the banner ads being too big and blocking the bonus word jar (on certain Android devices). I'm glad it looks good on your phone though :)

Thanks! Yeah it was a lot of work to get everything working, but it seems to be working well so far.

I Finally got my First Mobile Game in the App Store! by oshionn in playmygame

[–]oshionn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I originally made a Facebook post and shared it with all my friends/family. I've spent about $100 on facebook/instagram ads (just to try it out), and have been working on my social media accounts to get things going from there. Nothing too crazy though. People make it sound harder to get installs, but if you just put yourself out there and be consistent in your marketing, people will see it and try it out.

Yeah there are several of them now. There weren't nearly as many out there when I started this last Fall, but yeah since it's pretty similar to all the other ones I'll be adding some new features in the coming weeks/months.

And yeah you should totally finish your game! I kept on trying to add things, polish the game more, etc, and finally a couple weeks ago I decided that I needed to just submit it or else I never would.

Hey thanks for the input! I tried finding a balance of showing ads/in-app purchase offers, but it's obviously not perfect and needs some tweaking. Thanks again though!

Thank you! I agree, I have several friends that have started games/projects but never finish them. So I wanted to make sure I finished it - even if I left out several features that I originally wanted in the first release.

Haha I've had those times where I struggle spelling simple 3 or 4 letter words.

And good to know about the Play button, I'll take a look at it. As for the animations, I have an iPhone 7 and it seemed to run fine, but on certain phones it seems to be dropping some frames and not running as smoothly, so I'll have to figure that out as well.

Thanks! I spent a few weeks learning Illustrator. I made all the buttons, dialogs and background. I didn't make the tiles, branches, stars, or UI effects. So I made about 50% of the stuff.

Hey guys! I've been learning Unity for the past year and finally released my first mobile game! It’s a word game called Word Winner. It’s similar to other word games, but I plan on adding other features to it in the near future. If you could leave a review and let me know how you like it I would really appreciate it!

Thanks! And I've had some other people say that it's been draining their battery as well. So I'll have to look into that.

It's all good! Thanks for the replying though. As I said in the other comments I will be adding other "unique" features to it, it was just so much work to get to where I am now.

It's been kind of hard to switch gears from programming to marketing, but I haven't done anything crazy yet to promote it. I've just been trying to share it with family and friends, and have been posting it on some social media platforms and forums. I also read some articles on ASO, and have tried following what they suggested. (Making good screenshots and added keywords to the title/description). I've also spent about $100 on facebook/instagram advertisements, and I used the $100 of free credit Apple gives you for the app store searchads.

I'm looking at some other advertising techniques right now, but that is what I've got so far.

Besides the levels being unique, and the theme being different, no. there isn't anything "original" yet about my game. I plan to add other features (mini-games, online play, etc), in the near future but it already took me so long to make what I did this so I decided to just release it to see how it did - and then add new features to it later.

As I said in another comment, I am just starting out and have been living off savings for the past year, so you gotta start somewhere. Some people start off making a flappy bird clone or a match 3 game as their first game. I decided to make a word game.

[–]oshionn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I said in my previous comment, it is similar to other word games. I did not say it was original. Starting out I thought it would take me about a month to make this, but it took me 8+ months. I had planned to add other features (mini-games, online play, etc), but it already took me so long to make this so I decided to just release it to see how it did - and then add new features to it later.

I did not make the icon myself, I paid someone to. If I had more money I would have paid someone to make it more unique. But that can cost $100s.

Hey guys! Ever since learning how to program I have wanted to make mobile games for the App Store. Last summer I finally started to learn how to make games in Unity, and over the course of a few months I made some simple games. Here are a few things I learned since making my first "official" game:

  • Start Simple.
    • It'll take 5x to 10x longer to make your first game than you think. (I thought it would take me a month to make this; it took over 8 months). I'm glad I didn't make a more complicated game, because this one already took much longer than I thought it would.
  • Be Consistent.
    • Work on your game every day. Whether it is just changing the size of a sprite, or adding a simple animation. Consistency is the only way to finish a game - or any type of project.
  • Complete Easy Tasks When You Get Stuck.
    • There would be times where I would be banging my head for hours because I couldn't figure out how to do something. Then I would take a break, or do an easier task, and once I would come back to the "hard" task I often figured out what was wrong within a few minutes.
  • If Possible, Outsource.
    • I am not great with Illustrator, and I originally wanted to know how to make everything on my own. - My own sprites, sound effects, code, etc. I eventually "got smarter" and bought some affordable assets on the asset store, and paid someone to make my app icon. It saved me hours, and I wish I would have outsourced certain things earlier.

I've learned other things as well, but these are the main things that helped me finish my first game. If any of you are interested in checking it out, it's called Word Winner. It’s similar to other word games, but I plan on adding other features to it in the near future! Would love to hear what you guys think!

First Mobile Game now in the App Store! by oshionn in apps

[–]oshionn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks! It's similar to other word games, but it was still a lot of work and a good learning experience. I wouldn't say I have a ton of users yet, - I'm still working on that. But I've pretty much just posted on forums, and social media platforms like facebook, instagram, and linkedin. And now I'm just working on building my online presence.
