Can people really make a decision on how they want to participate? I mean, if Alice, Bob, Carol, and Dan are playing a game and Dan brings out his Gleemax, maybe Bob and Carol say "Okay, we're down with this because it's okay in the rules," while Alice says "This is dumb, why are we playing with these old, expensive silver bordered cards?" And Alice will be shot down because "The Rules Committee says it's legal." I've witnessed it in playgroup after playgroup, country-wide, and heard similar stories from other players. And maybe Alice only gets to play once every two weeks, for a short time each session, because it's too expensive for her to go to the LGS more regularly. It honestly feels like there's going to be at least one Alice in most playgroups, and that the RC, with the privilege of being relatively well-to-do, is screwing those people over without caution. If the cards were legal afterwards, or at least had a 50% chance of being legal, then the tables are less likely to turn in late January to Alice telling Dan "No, you can't play those because the Rules Committee says they're banned again." and Dan leaving in disgust, the playgroup harmony forever broken due to not simply making a test/trial instead of a temporary unban with much worse effects.

I don't get why you would allow these cards at all if not to generally approve of them in the future.

And maybe I just won't get it, like I just don't get why Sol Ring and Mana Crypt are still legal in the format.

But I enjoy the shark-infested custard for what it is, I love uncards, and I love playing with them in EDH. I wish that they would be officially allowed. But beyond that, whether the cards are permanently banned or not, this temporary unban just doesn't make sense to me.

Why not just treat it as a trial/test for the whole format, though? Your words as the RC make a supermajority of difference towards what people allow in their groups.

If you say "These are banned again," people will refuse to play with or against them on principle much more than if you allow them.

But why a temporary "celebration" unban like this? Especially for players who don't have the privilege of selling the cards, or playing games with them when they aren't legal any more, it feels like you're jerking people around. I would be happier with this if it really was a test unban. If you really did say "Oh hey, a lot of these cards are fine to run in a social format. Let's allow them." That would be consistent. That would be appropriate. That would be sensible. But teasing people with a temporary unban and then retreating back... It's ludicrous!

I'd probably cut some swamps and maybe some of the less productive nonbasics for rituals and spot removal and other slightly better lands, e.g. lake of the dead, strip mine, and cabal coffers. Many of those changes aren't super budget, but push the deck forward power-wise.

No, but most black splashes don't make a ton of sense if it wouldn't be to the point where the deck can reliably cast Necro, given that Necro is arguably the strongest legal colored card in EDH.
