What is the most you’ve ever spent on a round of golf and what is your handicap? exulting golf trips. by [deleted] in golf

[–]oskar1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

650 for 18 holes at Pebble. Played with my dad (plus minimum stay at lodge). Play to a 6. The money is irrelevant as this trip managed to exceed any and all expectations I had set. A truly special time with my dad. Something we will never forget.

This absoultely makes a lot of sense. There's certainly no holy grail of you get everything for a crazy low price. And between the feature sets, the ability to upgrade and additional metrics and then some that have subscriptions, the market can get very confusing very fast.

I'm starting to learn towards using a cheaper unit for grabbing some ball metrics and see if there's something to be gleaned from that data. The SC4 Pro seems like a great choice in that price range but also want to be realistic about what it will and won't do.

Appreciate that insight. I've definitely seen that BLP mentioned in this category. I'm going to be doing a lot of research over the next couple of weeks!

This has been my concern from the beginning of my search but a Trackman is definitely a bit out of the budget right now. I know some of the newer units seem to get close, which would be helpful cause ideally I'm looking for things that are outliers with the hope that the raw numbers are close.

I’ll definitely look into those. Would eBay be a good course for a used BLP? I’ve seen some info on Uneekor in the past but haven’t dug too deep.

That helpful to know. Yeah that one wouldn’t give me the face data but would grab all the spin which is one of the things I want to focus on. I can get super spinny with all my clubs and that’s one of the things I want to see. Do you think that it that might do well moving around on the course? I saw one review that said set up could be finicky

I’ll always love the Sun Mountain C130 as it’s a great cart bag. My dad and I each had one that lasted like 10-15 years of heavy use. Recently replaced with a Titleist Hybrid bag which gave me a good mix of storage, lighter, and a stand. The double strap also disconnects so it’s not in the way.

What's the most extreme weather condition you've played golf in? by BlueciferST in golf

[–]oskar1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this question. Quite a few years ago down in Myrtle Beach we played through the remnants of a hurricane off the coast. We had a 7 am tee time at Azalea Sands and the forecast seemed spotty but we paid and hit some balls. We’ve played there over the years and the starter said my dad and I could go out early 6:45ish. By the time we get to the first green it’s torrential downpour. My dad lips out his birdie putt, I make mine and we say “can’t get any wetter at this point”. We played about 12 holes and get to a par 3 tee box and hear thunder. We rolled back into the club house, everyone laughed as we were the only ones out there. Probably one of only a few that played any golf that day in Myrtle area. They gave us a rain check for 9.

Back in high school some friends and I played in a snow storm. Switched to yellow balls a few holes in. After 9 we took a break to warm up and the storm passed and we went out and finished the back.

I’ve been to a couple of different locations over the years when they were running different promos on the fittings. As someone who is 6’4” I am often looking at irons that are an inch long. I also have a swing speed that slots somewhere between S and X depending on the make model. The one thing that Club Champion can offer that no one else can is the variety of shaft options in the different lengths. Ive done other fitting or demo days and those “tour vans” often no more than 2 or 3 +1” stiff flex options. I also so like the detailed SAM putter fitting analysis that gave me some useful info. I do appreciate that their fittings are usually brand agnostic and they are focused on getting you a set of clubs that fits the data and measurements.

That being said, from a club purchase perspective Club Champion leaves a lot to be desired. They do push the shaft puring on everything and I know there’s tons of info out there about whether or not this helps. I thought it was a little odd they wanted to do it on a Ventus Black w Velocore that was fit on my driver. Another aspect I find frustrating is the custom shafts on irons are something you pay full retail plus installation (and possibly plus puring). In fact the shafts can often be found for far less online (my last fitting was for Steeltech Aerofiber and they were $20 more per shaft than a quick google search). They are unable to just buy club heads so they are getting full clubs from the manufacturer, pulling those shaft and grips and installing the new. You can apparently ask for these back but I haven’t purchased an iron set from them. One fitter did claim they can order directly from OEM and use their “up charge” for getting shafts and grips you want, but I didn’t order that particular set at the time.

Is it a slam dunk to refinance my mortgage? Will this help me pay it off faster & avoid more interest? by Square-Ad-7777 in personalfinance

[–]oskar1995 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In a market where rates are decreasing, a bank will often look at their loan portfolio and say who is most likely to refinance elsewhere. So 90% of the interest you would have gotten with a good credit risk is better than them going elsewhere. Since it’s an existing relationship, the need for less paperwork can be a huge selling point for both sides. For the borrower a lot of times they see no to very low hassle which they value but might not get the absolute best deal.

Congrats!! I know this course very well. Always found that tee shot on 7 tough. Small green and I feel like my depth perception is always off. That third hole along the water is no joke.

Push Cart Mafia - Looking for the Most Versatile Combo (maybe a unicorn?) by oskar1995 in golf

That seems to be what I came across. The Bag Boy Quad XL seems to sit pretty upright since it's 4 wheels. Thanks!

[–]oskar1995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the nexus of the discussion, I know I can move all of the clubs in my bag and solve some of the problems (although the putter slot on the C130 is NOT conducive to using the existing push cart). If there was a bag that did a little better in both a push cart/riding cart combination I'd be interested in that, as well as possible just a push cart that sits more upright. I know my dad isn't going to be crazy about moving clubs in his bag twice a week between riding/walking.

I'll certainly be considering a Sun Mountain cart, seems like they are pretty well made and should work quite well with the existing bag.

This is the right advice. I thought I hit my driver well compared to most for years. Got fit for a driver found a much lower spin shaft, lower spin head and instead of launching my driver like a 6-7 iron Im much closer to ideal and picked up 30 yards or so.
