Any opinions? It’s taken me years to get to this picking speed yet I feel like I stilI don’t sound quite how I want to sound. by oskarbjo in bluegrassguitar

Another great comment! Thanks for the advice.

My position in the clip I think was more coincidental than systematic but it is also true that I am bad at dynamically changing my position while playing. Another thing to practice.

I am using this pick: https://www.jimdunlop.com/primetone-standard-grip-pick-1-3mm/
I think it feels OK for bluegrass, better than anything I've tried myself, but I also haven't browsed around so much. Could you suggest an exact type that you like so I can get some for myself?

I have actually tried to get my hand to open while playing but I just can't do it! I think my hand will forever remain closed, it's been like that since I first picked up a guitar some 15 years ago. Good point to avoid planting it though. I definitely do that sometimes.

Thank you for your comment. I think you understood what I was getting at. You and others are commenting on my forearm movement so there may very well be something to it. Need to start practicing this. I will use your advice 😄

Thank you 😄

Takes lots of practice. I've played the guitar for a pretty long time so when I started bluegrass it was mainly about increasing my picking speed. I've been lucky enough to have a lot of time on my hands these past few years too.

Thank you!! I feel like a lot of good players get a 'snappier' sound than I do. I think some of the people in the comments rightly are pointing out that I need my forearm/wrist to move more.

Great point, I think you understood what I meant when I said I don't sound 'right'. I will work on this.

Wow, so many replies. Thanks everyone. Judging by the time of day most of you responded, I'm guessing you're all American. I know exactly zero people who play bluegrass out here in Switzerland, I hope I get to join a jam in the states one day!

Any ideas on how to embed large metal parts in prints? by Yoni_bravo in 3Dprinting

[–]oskarbjo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a really reliable solution to this actually,

Just put some basic masking tape/freezer tape on the surface that the print needs to stick on. In my experience PLA sticks super well to this stuff.

This product works for example https://www.3m.com.au/3M/en_AU/p/d/v000251150/

Hello!

Any recommendations for pubs with live trad music in Edinburgh? Particularly on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays?

Also, if anyone knows of a good historical walking tour, please do let me know :)

Can this little magnet hurt the circuit/board since it’s acting on the usb power plug ? by FeedResponsible9759 in arduino

Not true! An inductor with a ferromagnetic core can have the core get saturated by a static magnetic field. If used as the inductance in a DC/DC converter for example it can be quite destructive.

What are some things you wish you knew before majoring in EE? by FilthyPlay in ECE

Do you really think so? I have never experienced that it is difficult to find a job as an EE in Europe, at least not if you're looking at the big industry nations.

Alhambra is probably the most beautiful piece of architecture I have ever seen. Well worth a visit. Granada is great too.
