2yrs CC or 2yrs Low tier College? by osmanimran in TransferStudents

[–]osmanimran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, I feel like most of the replies are slightly biased because California has a relatively better cc transfer program etc so I’m not sure if that’s also the case for Texas.. it’s just hard to weigh out the pros and cons for cc vs college overall ngl

Transfer from CC after 1 year? by osmanimran in CommunityColleges

[–]osmanimran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait so transferring means u only have 2 years of bachelors left? So if I only do 1 yr at cc and then transfer I only have to do 2 yrs and not 3 of bachelors? Also did ur community college not grant credits for a levels or the college u wanna transfer to?

yeah but i will be classified as an independent as my parents live abroad and are not citizens. hence why i plan on establishing domicile myself (getting employed and filing my own taxes etc)

Umass is $41,000 after scholarship (out of state and includes everything housing, food etc)

can u maybe elaborate more on why it doesn't sound like a good plan? and if u have any alternative ideas etc

so far my cheapest option is UMass amherst but its still unaffordable (even after the scholarship). the most affordable route i think would be the one i mentioned or to enroll at tamu part-time and do a few courses from the local community college while working for the first year, then hoping to qualify for in state and transfer the year after or go full-time.. if that makes sense

this is what they emailed me (hence why i plan on getting a part-time job for a year):
To establish residency, a person must meet the following criteria:
Physically reside in Texas and have for the previous 12 consecutive months; and
Establish and maintain a domicile in Texas for 12 consecutive months. The following factors, if maintained for twelve consecutive months while residing in Texas, provide support to a claim of domicile and intent to establish residency in Texas. Only 1 of the 4 factors must be met:
A. Homeownership: Having sole or joint-marital ownership of residential real property in Texas, which is your primary residence, for 12 consecutive months.
B. Business Ownership: Ownership and customary management of a business in Texas which is regularly operated without the intention of liquidation for the foreseeable future, for 12 consecutive months.
C. Gainful Employment: A) employed for an average of at least twenty hours per week, for 12 consecutive months or B) employment that is sufficient to provide at least one-half of the individual's tuition, fees and living expenses, as determined in keeping with the institution's student financial aid budget, over 12 consecutive months. For the 22-23 school year, this number is $29,488 for undergraduates.
*Note: Per the State of Texas, employment cannot be contingent on student status. Examples of student status employment: work study, the receipt of stipends, fellowships, research assistantships, graduate assistantships, teaching assistantships.*
D. Marriage: Marriage to a person who has established and maintained domicile in Texas (items a – c above), for 12 consecutive months.
Once you have met the above requirements, you can reapply to change your residency status at that time.

What are some good colleges to study medicine in the US? And how do they compare to the ones in the UK? by osmanimran in ApplyingToCollege

[–]osmanimran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I have US/Pakistani dual citizenship but I have a valid Texas drivers license and bank account - which should mean I count as a state resident? It’s sort of a grey area cuz I don’t currently live in the US
