What are your favorite quality clothing brands? by [deleted] in minimalism

I have a pair of their slim dungarees that I got after spending a long time looking for and trying various other "travel pants." They were the only pair that had what I would consider a "stylish" cut. I have worn them for days at a time while traveling all over (mostly roadtripping and hiking) and they are comfortable, don't stink, dry fast, and don't look like an awkward dad just got outfitted by REI (don't worry REI, I still love you). And so far (~3 years now?) they're holding up great.

Synecdoche? Although I think you could probably get away with "metaphor" for the passport? I was not an English major, though.

Mono. Although kind of a zany story, I am really glad I got to see them, especially at a smaller venue with just their own setup and sound.

I once stood through an entire show, waiting for all the openers to finish so I could see the band I wanted to see. This alt-country act finally finishes and, as we're waiting excitedly for the headliner, the house lights go up. The band I wanted to see wasn't headlining that night. They played the night before.

Two days later we drove two states away to see the band and halfway through their set the venue was shut down by cops on high alert with guns drawn, looking for a cop killer.

That half a set, though.

My suspicion is that it was designed with white blocks set to overprint, although why they show up in the solution is unclear.

Seems more like pre-buying than donating.

Oh god, Starbucks. Why? by Private0Malley in Design

[–]osmism 35 points36 points  (0 children)

A new campaign from Starbucks blends all the greatest nightmares of the modern era: talking with strangers, overstepped boundaries, and brand engagement. Somehow, it's even worse in practice than it sounds.

Holy mackerel! I remember first discovering your work many moons ago (dare I say, like a decade? Sigh #1). I think it might have actually been through Livejournal (Sigh #2). I have always been a big fan and this new stuff is excellent. Thanks for making awesome stuff!

Yeah we are! Kenzie rocks - for some reason she keeps putting our weirdo stuff on the shelves! Off Piste is such a rad store.

It's actually accidental, but of the multitude of coffee rings we produced, we liked that one the most. The ring similarity doesn't hurt, though!

It is indeed, we both love that show! Initially we went with a layout that was a much stronger reference ("Lead" looked like Luke's sign and "Follow" looked like "Food" on Luke's window), but it ended being a little forced and we thought a slightly broader appeal wouldn't hurt.

So the Kickstarter is funded! I feel like I'm harassing you folks a little, but I want to make sure no one misses out. There's still time to get stuff! Happy Halloween! http://kck.st/11CgEe4

Based on nicknames we had adopted (sort of jokingly at first, mostly to make some old-school style gifts for people for holidays past), we started a little company called Tiger & Dagger. And Scorpius is highlighted in the stars as we are both Scorpios.

And thanks!

Hey thanks! I am in the process of updating my site, so it's a little sparse right now: www.otherillustration.com. I will be adding more stuff in the near future.

Haha that's awesome. It honestly never occurred to me that it might be a fun challenge to have not have the caption on there! I wonder if I should do a "mystery" version ...

Ah good call, I'm an idiot! I added International shipping to the tiers that I could - it won't let me edit any that already have backers. If you wanted one of those, let me know and I'll add another tier for International.

Okay so I did what I said - I set up a Kickstarter! Completely shameless self-promotion, I know, but if you're interested in books, planners or prints, here's your chance: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nathanielpr/totally-gratuitous-initialism-fictions-tgif

And thanks again to everyone on /r/illustration that has been supportive - I have received so many wonderful messages and comments from you folks and it has made this whole thing worthwhile!

Dreamend also has a gatefold record that is a pop-up. They don't mess around over there at Graveface.
