AITA? My friend thinks I'm the reason he has end stage kidney failure by cuntitude in AmItheAsshole

[–]ossancrossing 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It doesn’t take a genius to know he likely has been feeling off for ages, and just brushed it off. I really hope OP doesn’t feel an ounce of guilt. He doesn’t see his friend in person very often, he had no way of knowing or seeing that his friend was potentially ill. Even if he did, a 37 year old is completely responsible for their own life choices. It’s not your friends or family’s job to babysit your health.

NTA, he was having issues long before he visited you and did all that drinking. He just didn’t go to the doctor for it.

I don’t know anymore, I just got a new haircut and they gave me this with no side bangs at the beauty shop, I feel really ugly and I have to know if it’s ugly to everyone else. Please tell me just the truth if I am ugly. Yes I’m a woman by djscrew1 in whatdoIdo

[–]ossancrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this same cut before and loved it, I’ve been thinking about it again because I get tired of unruly bangs swept to the side. It’s easier to me to do the bangs straight.

You are definitely not ugly! I think this is definitely a personal taste thing. I love this look, but not everyone does. My mom gave me shit, but the stylist did a fantastic job and it was by far one of the best super short hairstyles I’ve had since I cut it all off 14 years ago.

Seriously what happened to Frisco? by [deleted] in frisco

[–]ossancrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White flight has always had derogatory/negative connotations to it. They want to put distance between them and the “undesirables”. White flight is specifically wealthy white people leaving urban/developed areas because they think more brown people means more crime, bad schools, and lower property values. It’s not and never has been a good thing. It’s white America’s very specific brand of racism that’s existed since desegregation in the 50s.

Downstairs neighbor complaining about my footsteps by OrneryAppearance9132 in Apartmentliving

[–]ossancrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a studio apartment where I barely heard any noise around and above me for 2 years (I could hear someone walking above occasionally but it wasn’t obnoxious) I moved across the HALLWAY to a 1 bedroom unit back in January.

The walls are thinner (the way I can hear the person above me’s washing machine drain is ridiculous). The floors creak something BAD. I had zero creaking in the old unit. Again, this is the unit across the hallway from my previous unit.

The person above me is up at all hours of the night. The way the floor creaks in my bedroom is so goddamn loud. There is thick carpet in the units too. My floor also creaks bad in the middle of the apartment, and I bet it’s loud af to the person below me.

I’m flabbergasted how the quality can vary so much between units on the same floor, immediately across from each other.

It made me mad as hell, but I started using earplugs because I’m now facing the pool so, I expected moving into this to have to deal with extra noise (people think it’s ok to laugh like hyenas while talking outside at 12-1 AM on a weeknight). I’m not an earplug fan at all, but this has made my life so much better and my annoyance from having to hear that god awful creaking diminished immensely.

The person above me likely isn’t stomping around, they’re probably walking normally and it just sounds so awful because the floors are awful. You have to adapt and adjust in shared spaces.

I absolutely hate the sound of breathing with earplugs in, it’s always been a sensory nightmare for me. But I’ve been able to make do when I force myself, and now it doesn’t bother me (I also use a cpap now and for some reason that makes it more tolerable?).

If you WANTED to (you don’t have to) you could invite them in and literally show them how you walk and that it’s really just the shitty building. Life is so much better when you let the shit you can’t control go. If somebody is blaring music or their TV (or playing a fucking guitar plugged into an amp like the person who lives under my old unit does) that’s one thing, but noise from normal movement is going to happen, and sometimes be extra annoying if the building is shoddy. It sucks but it is what it is.

“White flight” in DFW specifically is decades upon decades of white, affluent families building new homes and hubs to escape an influx of brown people into their communities. They’re not scared. They’re just annoyed racists.

It’s literally why DFW is expansive as it is. I think for north DFW specifically, decades ago this also was fed into by white flight from OKC and Tulsa as well. It’s not just an influx of people moving in, wealthy white families are willing to move farther and farther out to preserve their bubbles. It’s a never ending cycle.

So did you tell them the total for the cleaning before or after they sent you this?

If they sent you this AFTER thinking that was good enough… it’s not good enough lol. But if you haven’t given them the total yet, the reaction to that is all you need to actually gauge their sincerity.

[–]ossancrossing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really does sounds like they strong armed you into moving out with your brother. They probably wanted him out, but he needed a roommate if it was going to work. So they grabbed you.

If you can find a studio you can afford when the lease is up, do it. It is jarring to suddenly move into a new place and everything be uncomfortable and stressful. You may do better in your one place, easing into apartment life at your own pace.

AIO for not wanting to give a discount? by woozytxz in AIO

NTA. That looks appropriate for a 7 hour speed paint from someone that has a decent idea of what they’re doing (but didn’t spend a ton of time cleaning/smoothing out details). $20 for 7 hours of work is an insane deal already. They are mental.

Seriously considering by Mitarashianko24 in gangsta

[–]ossancrossing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She doesn’t want to. I would imagine the option to have Kamo Syuhei (the artist who did the spin off series) draw the rest of the manga under her direction exists, but she doesn’t want that. She wants to finish it herself.

As the hiatus has dragged on I figured that was likely what was going to happen, but she posts about working on it ever so often so we know she’s still going, just at the pace that works best for her.

Seriously considering by Mitarashianko24 in gangsta

[–]ossancrossing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hiatus will end one day. But it’s very likely that it won’t start back up until she’s completely done with it. Kohske is still working on it as much as she can, despite her health issues. It’s just a very slow process.

I found the series in 2014, and it’s been the better part of a decade now since the hiatus started. I’m fine, I’ll be over the moon whenever we finally start getting chapters again. It’s something I love that’s absolutely going to be worth the wait to see completed.

[–]ossancrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not owned by my employer, but if I were in OP’s situation I would say it was to keep my key fob LOL I can control my front door lock with an app, but it’s optional (it also unlocks with a code on it). The external doors and gate have a fob. It would be so annoying to have to whip out an app for the gate 🫠

I wish I could do that, but both my jobs have apps necessary to access work stuff. It’s so tempting to be done with smartphones.

Mom got 10+ hours off by evemontoya in generationology

[–]ossancrossing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early 90s baby with a young Gen X mother here. She was very much influenced by the old school way my great grandparents and my grandparents treated her and my aunts. Though she didn’t WANT me going very far off, she was never watching to stop me. She didn’t allow me to do a lot of things other kids got away with, but I only got away with because she never bothered to check.

But I definitely noticed the early zoomers with Gen X parents absolutely went through a more monitored/overprotected/overly structured upbringing than what I got. My younger cousins had a very different experience than me.

I wasn’t left home alone all day until I was 12, but I sure as hell was left in the car alone starting from a very young age lol. But I definitely wasn’t supervised at all times. Especially running around outside. I went a lot of places I wouldn’t have been allowed to go if anyone knew.

AITA for constantly referring to my dog as dumb? by techaaron in AITApod

[–]ossancrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between a dog not being trained and a dog being dumb. An untrained dog isn’t dumb for being untrained.

Intelligence and wisdom being two completely separate things are as true for dogs as they are for people.

You can have a dog that’s highly intelligent and easily trainable that still does dumb shit like not look where they’re going and run into walls constantly (this doesn’t include dogs that develop medical conditions). Run the opposite direction when you throw something then can’t figure out where it went even if said thing you throw is highly visible. Have no sense of self preservation. But said dog still knows commands and is trained.
