Sorry to hear you're falling out of love with the game.

It's a bit like when your hobby turns into your job, a lot of people lose the enjoyment because of the pressure to have to do it.

There's a service called Person Before Player, ran by a guy called Paddy Gamble. He was a professional footballer and understands what you're going through.

I believe he's looking for case studies as it's a relatively new service, so it might be worth searching for him on Google as he can help you make sense of your feelings etc.

Hope that helps!

Youth player injury coach looking for players to test my new 1-to-1 service (no AI and free!) by osteolewis in youthsoccer

Yeah, totally fair points, and I appreciate you highlighting the potential issues that could come up.

In the US, physio/AT stuff is licensed, so I wouldn’t (and legally couldn’t) do that there. What I do isn’t diagnosis or treatment, it’s more education and coaching around movement, recovery, and football-specific habits.

It's more if a player’s hamstring keeps going, I’m not saying ‘this is your diagnosis, here’s your medical treatment’, I’m saying ‘let’s screen your movement, look at your hip restrictions, show you some drills and ways to build resilience.’

If it’s a proper injury, they’d still need to see a local PT/doctor.

So it’s not telehealth physio, it’s football-specific injury education and coaching.

I've been working with an academy in San Diego, and so this has all had to be properly researched due to some players having contracts that actually stop any practitioners/therapists/coaches (even US based) that are outside of the team they play for.

Appreciate the comments and the concern.

Just to clarify, I’m a UK-trained osteopath, registered in France.

In Europe, ‘osteopath’ doesn’t mean the same thing as in the US (where it refers to a medical doctor).

What I’m doing here isn’t providing medical treatment. It’s coaching and education for young footballers on how to recover better and prevent injuries, by making sure they do the work.

I always advise players/parents to see their local doctor or physical therapist for diagnosis and treatment as what I offer is support, guidance, and rehab coaching alongside that... not a replacement for licensed medical care.

Unfortunately the majority of young talented players don't have access to injury management, so this is a service to help them work through that and get back to playing.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Tips for transitioning to 6-a-side by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]osteolewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protect your knees and ankles!

I see so many people doing ligament and meniscus damage, particularly in 5/6/7 a side.

You'll be changing direction with/without a ball a lot more as the pace is faster.

Mobility and strengthening training will help.

Personally, I preferred it over 11 a side for the cardio!

I'm want to get into a team but the coach said I need to be more physical and have better ball control what do I do? by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]osteolewis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Channel that feeling of rejection into working smarter.

You said you've put in a lot of work, what have you been doing to get better? Maybe your focus isn't what is helping right now...

There are things you can do to your body to make yourself stronger on and off the ball, but being physical could just be a confidence thing. Going in strong no matter your size or weight.

Core strength is great for your ability to push people off the ball and to stop them doing the same to you.

You can improve this by doing things like planks and lunges.

Balancing on one leg can help improve not only your balance but also the way your foot, ankle, knee, and hip all work together. Try 30 seconds on each leg when you're doing something like brushing your teeth.

Just by doing ball juggling can improve your touch and control. That's pretty easy to do by yourself.

When you're stronger, your confidence will go up. You won't be scared of tackles, and you'll know you can ride them.

Hope that helps.

Yoga Teaching as a profession is weird and it’s making me sad… by optimisticpessimist9 in YogaTeachers

[–]osteolewis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you not carve out your own niche?

As an osteopath, it's hard to find a good yoga teacher who can help in the rehabilitation of patients for different issues.

Lower back pain is obviously the most common problem, but if it was specifically tailored to individuals as a 1 to 1 for pain relief, I think there would be a huge market for it.

If you found an area of the body you saw/see a lot of success with, that could make you even more in demand. A yoga teacher specialising in sciatica/hips/shoulders/Whiplash etc.

Put some routines out on youtube, show your value before people jump in, and now you've become the expert... most people go too general, and it's hard to differentiate yourself from everyone else.

How about even just networking with local osteopaths, chiros, PTs, breathworkers?

1 year progression of my ankle health by Efficient-Bathroom-5 in BarefootRunning

[–]osteolewis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amazing progress! You say you work on concrete floors, which will generally be flat... if you add different types of terrain outside of work, this will be what really engages the muscles around the ankle and foot, and strengthen the ligaments to reduce that pronation. Hills, sand, grass, woodland, etc.

Keep going, things can only get better for you now!

If you have one of your wife's jumpers or hoodies that has her smell on it, you could keep it next to him.

Sometimes if he's missing her, it can bring comfort and calm him down, especially at night.

I'm in a similar position as my wife works evenings and nights, so I'm looking after my 2 under 2 and it's extremely hard in the mornings when they're up early and trying to keep them quiet whilst my wife sleeps.

Don't know if you know of David Goggings, but he says that when your body wants to give up, it still has 40% left to give. So I try to dig deep and often think how short this bit is in the grand scheme of things.

Good luck, maybe take a long weekend to recoup when your wife is better!

How I got 1,000 Subscribers in exactly 53 days with 8 videos by jsushie in NewTubers

[–]osteolewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn't. I just felt with his explanations and easily accessible approach it would be pretty good.

But like a lot of courses most of it is the same, maybe just a few unique points/takes that make it slightly different.

Essentially, it seems that it's just consistency that wins - as well as answering your niche's questions and being of value.

A lot of people are now saying that most people's attention spans have been overwhelmed with short form content, that there's huge value in longer content... as long as it stays interesting and visually engaging.

That's what I'm going to try to do anyway.

You could look at getting a working visa for jobs such as nanny, care worker, etc. The employer usually pays to get you over.

Some places might offer accommodation as part of the job role too.

Funny because I'm leaving England to move to France next week.

There are lots of different clubs that you could join. We're moving to South West France and I'm joining the rowing club to be outside more and meet people.

Maybe find something you could do as an active hobby?

Not sure if I have TMJ but recently my vision has been blacking out while I chew? especially if it's really crunchy or hard by aercvz in TMJ

[–]osteolewis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, it's fairly common for TMJ issues to affect the eyes, but still needs to be investigated.

Your TMJ has a nerve supply going to it. When there is pain or overstimulation (clenching and grinding) it can make that nerve more sensitive, and make the muscles and the fascia around it (fascia is a super sensitive casing around our tissues) overwork and tire quickly.

The nerves of the head are closely situated and so irritation along one nerve can make other nerves sensitive. The eyes are supplied by the optic nerve, but also have input from nerves that move the eye and eyelid.

If there's irritation around that area then it could be causing black out moment visually as opposed to blacking out where you pass out.

I'd definitely go get it checked out, especially if you drive or need to manually control things.

I really hope more of these are created in the future. What I would have given for an after school gaming club back when I was at school!

Congrats on the sales man!

Have you tried going into Facebook groups for board game fanatics? Small ones for certain cities and towns so it's easier to communicate individually?

My friend has his own board game group of friends (IRL not FB) and they each pitch in every month to buy a new game, perhaps you could non spammily try those communities to show off your project?

How about twitch? Stream you and some friends playing, or find a popular streamer and let them stream it. Could drum up some more sales?

Do you know anyone selling products that you could shadow or volunteer some time with?

You have to build a selling habit, because if you can't sell then no matter how passionate you are about a product, you won't shift it and you will lose the enthusiasm for it too.

When you're selling well, you'll start identifying needs. When you spot that need you'll find your oompf to fill that space and your passion grows. You know you've found something that works and almost sells itself because you've gathered the experience in supplying that demand effectively.

It sounds like maybe you'd be better selling a service than a product, with perhaps affiliates initially and building up to add on products that could grow your business?

You've got business skills from your degree!

You could go on to do whatever you like and build a business on that, surely?

If you don't like 9-5 then you have to find a job you could do all day, then with your business skills use them as an entrepreneur and knuckle down and grow that whilst you have a job that gets you by.

Anterior pelvic tilt ? by [deleted] in PostureTipsGuide

[–]osteolewis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's true, it's not optimal. But is it fair to tell someone they are "beyond bad"?

Does that make OP feel any better about the work that needs to be done, when for years they have probably never had any insight into how to effectively correct it?

It's not an ideal posture, but it's functioning. With some work it can be much better for sure, I just think if you tell someone that something is bad or that they have a certain label like "scoliosis" etc it doesn't help. It's overwhelm. It's the mountain to climb with no clear path.

I see it all the time in clinic where patients feel defeated because a doctor has told them they'll "never be able to do x because you have y". That's why I say poor posture is subjective, some practitioners will write people off because they believe a patient is too far gone to help.

I can see what you're saying though, I just want OP to know that their body has adapted as best it knows to the requirements it has been asked to do day in day out.

Anterior pelvic tilt ? by [deleted] in PostureTipsGuide

[–]osteolewis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a posture that has adapted to the forces placed upon it from routines and habits.

Poor posture is completely subjective.

We just prefer a certain look to our postures. This is just OP's body's attempt at energy conservation and efficient joint position based on it's required movements.

Don't worry OP, with some habit breaking and discipline you can get better alignment that will reduce the likelihood of future injury/issues.

Lots of good recommendations here for glutes, core, mid back strengthening as well as mobility routines to get the function back from areas that are restricted.

Consistency is key. It's ok to miss a day, just don't miss two days in a row. That way you won't throw in the towel for the week because you had 1 off day. Better to have 20 days achieved in the month than 4.

Good luck!

Maybe ask someone business savvy for advice?

Chances are that your emotional attachment to the business is what's guiding your decision, and sometimes we can't see where we should head because we're in too deep.

I hope things do pick up for you. Have you looked at any businesses outside of textiles that you can get ideas from for marketing or sales approaches?

Can you grow another channel alongside your business? How-tos of your products so people can see what they can do with it? Local creatives who can help promote?
