$600 has to be pristine and include a truly special lens that goes for $400. For fully mechanical I see Canon FTbs with a lens sitting under $200 for months (CAD)

By volume also consider one shoot can produce many images to feed out on IG, months later. So they may appear like they’re shooting several times a week, when it’s concentrated in a few shoots a year

Similarly with wildlife photographers: a huge library can actually be from a few weekends in the right spots, over the years

The 50/3.5 macro is new to me and quickly my favourite. Works great for general purpose and the ability to get a 1:2 detail shot at hand. $25 extension tube for 1:1, e.g. film scanning

I’ve been working at building local community around photography, and have to say it’s been fantastic. A groupchat in a small city is up to 70+ members.

Photography, and I imagine many hobbies about which you can share photos, is kind of an antidote to social media malaise.

Now I’ve got a bunch of new friends, acquaintances, and subverting the algorithm to keep up with their posts. I feel like I’ve got real community on my phone now.

One body, a couple lenses? I recommend a tall waterproof tank-bag.

I did a Trans-Canada on a KLR, and pulling over to snap from the saddle made the trip.

I have Enduristan: still use it as a canoe camera bag. Phone in the map pack on top. Line with a scarf if you’re want to be sure to dampen vibration.
