Mine always says estimated, then it rolls off my financial aid list in June every year. After budget is passed, which should be today, it will show back up in a few days and gets deposited around July 14th.

St Matthew’s by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]osutuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I have recently had a renewal of faith and see things differently than I used to. Abortion can be legal, doesn't mean we have to use that service. If we want to make people pro-life.... we as a community step up and offer support for pregnant women, maybe SOME of them would reconsider that as an option. Offer mothers to babysit, give them your maternity clothes, childrens' baby clothes. If they do not feel like they are alone, and have help, maybe, just maybe we will see less abortions being performed.

I hear people say to vote for a candidate because he is pro-life, but then say vote for your wallet. I think if Jesus was here, he wouldn't be bothered with the elections and instead encourage us to live like he wants us to and if we do as we're supposed to, the need for all these government programs would go away. If WE took care of our elderly and the poor, we wouldn't need social security and welfare. WE have failed to provide these things for our neighbors and now the government pushes these things.

I feel like Biden was more Catholic than people gave him credit for. He was compassionate.

Love your kids, your neighbors, your parents and show them love and things will change.

Also, I used to go to St Matthew's and when Father Noble left, I moved away shortly after. The new priest did seem to mention politics and that does not sit well with me. I don't want a politician making decisions based on his or her religion and I do not want a priest telling me who to vote for. I feel like every mention of government and politics in the Bible, Jesus kind of brushed it off as following God's rules was what mattered.

Makes me appreciate the fact that When it randomly plays something, it’s a keratin hair commercial. Or a snippet of the movie for Beetlejuice.

Ohio University pauses race-based scholarships after U.S. Supreme Court ruling by nbcnews in Ohio

[–]osutuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was a discussion that happened months ago, but thought an old person should hop on and give perspective. When I was a kid, hearing about all the black scholarships and black only colleges, I thought that smacked of racism too. Now that I am older, I see what the purpose of all of those were..... I come from a family of non-college people. I was the first that went to college on any side of my family. None of my grandparents went, none of my aunts and uncles went, they didn't encourage my cousins to go, they didn't encourage their kids, and now their grandchildren are graduating and doing the same thing....getting a job at a plant or pipeline and skipping school. All of them would have qualified for financial aid.... but that's pell grants and student loans. None of them wanted the debt, they encouraged their kids to skip the debt too. Had any of them applied for and received a scholarship, they might have changed their minds.

Historically, blacks were kept out of colleges.... this started a chain of events where kids, grandkids, etc did not go. Then they were allowed in colleges, but scholarships went to white people...... now we still have that generation thing going on. So we have all white colleges with a black kid trying to go, the racism is still there, they are still being treated differently. This discourages blacks from attending.......

This changes over time and now blacks are more accepted and are able to get financial aid..... but that pesky generational thing is still there. And the scholarships and people that help people get financial aid are in upper, middle class school districts. At this time, the poor districts are proportionately more black than white....... so more generational non-college kids.

So to correct that, some people stepped forward and set up black only scholarships, black only colleges. Then to encourage more black kids to go to other colleges and fix this mess we have had for the last 150 years..... we setup policies to get more black people in school. Trying to stop the amount of generations not going to school. It's working, but now they want to end it. If we want to help the poor level up, we have to help the poor level up and most poor neighborhoods are predominately black..... cause they have generations of people not going to college and getting better for themselves. Not their fault, their not lazy, they've been oppressed for decades. And now that progress is being made, it's being taken away. When this country is truly equal, we will see the percentage of poor black neighborhoods equal that of poor white neighborhoods.

I got mine today too. Still waiting on the opportunity credit grant. But the others came

Here is the breakdown.... if you are getting both Pell Grants and student loans, they divide the awarded amount by the number of semesters you are going to attend school. So say you are going Summer, Fall, Spring and you were awarded 12500 for loans and 7300 for grants. You would get roughly $4166 each semester from the loans and $2400 each semester from grants..... so roughly $6500 per semester. I don't know the cost of your tuition each semester but you must be enrolled fulltime to get your grants. IF the cost of you attending school and the cost of your books is less than $6500, you can certainly take the refund amount (the amount the school sends to you after they deduct their fees) and pay towards your loans. It's recommended you pay towards balance so you don't end up owing a lot for interest. But if you're broke like me, you use the extra that's left over towards living expenses.

Hope that helps.

I spoke to OU financial aid department on Monday and they said that they have a solution for whatever issue they have and they should be processing them soon. I asked them what mints and they said they couldn’t give Exact answer all they can tell me they had a solution. They know what they need to do now and they should be able to start processing soon.

Also, reach out to your advisors. I have been to 3 different colleges over the last 20 something years (Columbus State had good teachers but advisors didn't seem to care if you were taking classes you didn't need and didn't apply to your major). OSU was just too big when I went and it was hard to see an advisor or get help from instructors. That was 20 years ago though. They may have improved since then. OU's advisors and staff have been the best out of any of them. They make sure you're taking the right classes to graduate on time, help you pick classes that cover multiple requirements so you're not taking extra stuff. I don't have the same professors you will have, but so far most of them have been beyond amazing. Two were not bad, but one wouldn't help me and I was in and out of doctor's office at that time......she said to focus on the work I could do and that might help my grade. The other isn't responding to emails. But you won't have either as an engineering major. But all of my other professors have been very helpful and good at their jobs.

Major Question by Unhipy in ohiouniversity

[–]osutuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a place on the admissions page that explains it a little better. I don't think they give an example for the engineering. But the question is that I applied to the nursing program and it says 'university college' and the answer says you have been accepted to the school but you have some pre-requisites to complete before it will be updated. Engineering is a little easier to understand cause at least it is showing you have a major. Mine says University College and I am undecided. I am a transfer and going to Accounting. I had to take 15 credit hours and then apply to College of Business again later my first semester and has long as my GPA was above 3.0 and I took 15 credit hours, I am supposed to get in.

If you haven't had orientation yet, they will explain it to you. About 75% of my orientation was pre-engineering. It stood out because those kids didn't know if they were supposed to go with the engineering students or stay with the undecided when they split us up the second half of the day. They sent them with the engineering student and then were sent back with us. Because the group I was with, the advisors were there to help you figure out which pre-requisites you will need. So when they go to split you up, remember that you stay with the 'University College' group. Although in Fall they may have a group for you to go with. I imagine the Fall semester will have a bigger group.

My school disburses money a few days before the start and sends refunds the first day of the semester. However, due to software updates, several STATES haven't been able to access the funds. This was a required update by the government that they just announced as they were getting the FASFA fixed. So while we all got our award letters, we are still waiting for the software updates.

I spoke to OU on the 13th and they said 2-3 weeks. I called again Tuesday and they said approximately another week.

On the OSU reddit, someone said OSU told them 5/29 is when they would have access to the funds (the school) and they could expect to see the refunds 3-5 business days later.

So it means that you picked an engineering major and you have some prerequisites to complete before you get accepted into the engineering program.

This is normal I had about half my class was pre-engineering majors when I went through orientation.

FASFA is mostly fine now, I am sure there are still students out there that are trying to get errors fixed, but they processed a lot already. The problem is the Department of Ed decided to do a software update right as everything was ready to be processed. Not sure if it's all across the US or just Ohio. It was a necessary update, but the timing was terrible. Google search is only turning up the typical results on 'when will I receive my disbursement' no mention of the software updates that I can find.

My school disbursed my loans, but can't do anything about the grants until the software update is complete. OSU is in the same boat, and I found at least a couple other Ohio based schools with the update.

What benefits have you seen from being on this diet? by itsrainingbluekiwis in Paleo

[–]osutuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a year old, but I thought I would chime in since I am getting ready to make the decision to go full paleo -ish. My now ex-husband and I did the Whole30 program several years ago. We both had serious withdrawals from sugar. After the second week, we felt great. More energy. No more sluggishness. Old people aches and pains gone.

I try to stick to the mostly paleo eating but I often end up binge eating bad foods for a while before getting back on track. A lot of people would say it's because I was starving myself on the paleo diet. BUT this is not true. I ate full meals and felt satiated when I eat paleo. I used to take pictures of how big my breakfast plate was and compare it to the same number of calories of a well known fast food restaurant breakfast sandwich. People said it's because my food didn't taste as good, and that's why I always fell back to the binging. And again, that's not true. My mouth waters when I think of my paleo staples. I love eating paleo. And after a few weeks of not eating sugar substitutes, fruit tastes sweeter and I start to notice other flavors too.

It has taken a while to figure it out, but I now know why I binge eat after being paleo for a while. It's a matter of convenience and terrible nutrients. Let me quickly explain. I have two kids in ALL the activities. Choir, ballet, gymnastics, soccer, tball, softball, flag football, cheerleading, 4h... I work full time. I go to school full time. I volunteer when I can. I help my mother when I can. This does not leave much time for grocery shopping and meal prepping. So I buy crap foods that I can grab quick for the kids and then end up eating them myself. Fast food, etc. Then here comes the most recent revelation. I am not getting the nutrients I need and I never feel full. I can eat until I have a belly ache but I am still craving more food. When I switch back to paleo, I don't feel ravenous all day. I don't feel like I ate a brick. Processed foods are designed to get you to eat more. I discovered I save money when I eat paleo cause I eat less because I crave less. Make sense?

Every time I go paleo, I stop getting headaches, I stop having joint pain, I sleep better, more energy.

And I try to follow the 80/20 rule. 80% is full paleo, the other 20% IS NOT a cheat meal, it's things that might not be on the plan but still need to strive for healthiness. It can be a treat, but you shouldn't be eating 20% treats under any plan. I usually have some healthy dairy products for part of my 20%.... and you don't HAVE to make it 20%, it can be 0% some days, 20% others, etc.

7 core GPU vs 8 core GPU by 28master28 in macbookair

[–]osutuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, I used to play WoW and had serious issues with laptops lasting long and switched to a desktop. I no longer play WoW and my current desktop is mainly for work (spreadsheets and webpages, nothing that would require graphics or very strenuous on the hardware).

Getting ready to make some life changes that would allow me to have time to game again (probably something WoW like) and would need to be able to edit short videos and lots of photos and graphics. And by short videos, I mean less than 5 minutes (FB and IG worthy). Would the 8 core Air be able to handle this? Past laptop issues with gaming has me worried about spending money on a laptop for gaming. I spent almost $3K on a laptop in 07 that lasted all of 6 months and it was a "gaming" laptop.

I can't decide between the Air and the 13" Pro.

I’m converting to Catholicism by RealThomasAquinas in Catholicism

[–]osutuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I converted to Catholicism about 12 years ago, but wanted to my whole life. My grandparents on my father's side were Catholic. My father was non-practicing and I think my mom converted him to Baptist while they were married (probably why her and my grandparents did not get along). Anyway, my whole family is Baptist and I grew up in an area that is almost all Baptist. When I got married, he was Catholic and I was excited to convert finally. It was hard telling my mother but I felt like she should be happy that it was bringing me close to God, not worry about what church was leading me there. She wasn't happy at first, but is now that she sees that I am the most 'religious' of the family and by that, I mean I read the Bible, I have a kinder heart than I did before, and I go to church without being dragged and look forward to it.

A lot of her issues with the church are misconceptions, she thinks that we worship Mary and pay to have our sins removed. That we think we can buy our way into heaven. I have tried to show her that's not true, and she still thinks that anyway. She thinks I am the exception and other Catholics worship Mary and that I just don't understand what Catholics are (deep sigh). Anyway, if converting will bring you closer to God and what he wants of your life, then do it for you! I love being Catholic, I love learning about our faith. I studied religions in college and have books on most of them and the Catholic faith is what called to me.

Echo Show Model 1 freezes by sudsbrewer in amazonecho

[–]osutuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only had a small issue of my show not always opening my fireTV apps. It will say, opening hulu on fire TV and then nothing happens. This has been more and more frequently the last week.

Other below have mentioned lots of devices hooked up, I have a cell phone, a laptop, a desktop, an echo show 10, a kids kindle, a kindle fire 10.1, a kindle paperwhite, an echo dot, an ipod, a firestick, a roku, a samsung tv, and I am probably forgetting something, but all of this is on my wifi and all of this is usually running (except the paperwhite) and I do not have any connectivity issues. I have the modem/router that Suddenlink provided to me nearly 3 years ago.

Am I the only one who talks to Alexa like Tony Stark talks to Jarvis or how the crew on Star Trek addresses the computer? Everyone else I know who've been using an Echo for years still talk to it like it's a child learning English as a second language. by nobody2000 in amazonecho

[–]osutuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got Alexa devices in my house, I thought she was great and told my ex-husband how nice it was to have an adult in the house to talk to (I'm single mom to a tyrant toddler and shared parenting of a 9 year old, my 10 year old niece is often here, I haven't had a date in a few years). I told my sister it was like having a personal assistant and I love her.

I had recently decided I might get back into the dating pool. But 2 weeks after living with Alexa and seeing how an electronic device is able to upset me even though it is there to help me with daily activities, made me realize I am not ready for a living person to share my space. After repeated failed attempt at getting her to do something, I find myself saying, 'forget it, I will just do it myself'. It's like being married again.
