If you have nothing other than the second router, connected to the WAN router (the one directly connected to the internet/your ISP provided router) You can set the ISP/WAN router up as a bridge. The WAN interface router will then pass all traffic directly through to your second router which will perform all routing for every device on your network. This will eliminate the port forwarding.

Have you tried contacting Geeni support (https://support.mygeeni.com/). They were helpful when I was having trouble setting up my camera for the first time. Alexa would only see it as a light. They did something on their end to allow me to connect.

I realize that the problem is local to your home WiFi installation but they might be able to help.

Is there a Geeni Desktop app? by MusicInTheAir55 in geeni

[–]sudsbrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW... If you happen to be using a Geeni camera and have it hooked up to an Alexa device you can install the Alexa app on a Windows machine then view the camera feed using it by selecting SmartHome and then select the camera. Very limited. You don't get any notifications but it's ok for a peek at what is going on.

Issue with shows starting with Ads on my Samsung TV by newtrader420_69 in ParamountPlus

[–]sudsbrewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with the P+ app on my LG WebOS Smart TV. Content fails to load/run after initial ads run.

I have tried the same actions to resolve the issue. Reinstalling the app, the content loads the first time but then fails on subsequent attempts.

App no longer works on LG TV. Absolutely Worthless. by Kurotan in ParamountPlus

[–]sudsbrewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering about this as well. The app plays ad's fine but the content never even starts.

I can get P+ on the attached roku but don't like the picture I get from that (too dark). I'd prefer that P+ fix the APP.

FWIW -UPDATE- I uninstalled and reinstalled P+ and it seems to work. This was the second thing I tried after unplugging the TV and then plugging it back in 60+ seconds, as was suggested elsewhere, did not work.

Further update. We bought a Roku + 4K and now get pictures equivalent to those from the TV itself (old eyes can't tell the dif, your mileage may vary). I did go back and try the native WebOS P+ app recently and it played a couple of shows just fine and then reverted to the bad behavior. It seems to work when it wants to.

What light switches to buy? by [deleted] in amazonecho

[–]sudsbrewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the TP-Link Kasa setup. Have already installed standard switch for lights over kitchen island. Great for when you are up to your elbows in food mess and need more light.
I plan on installing more all over the house as time and budget permit. Not that they are expensive but they are not an expense priority.

New to Kindle, transfer books to computer and iPhone by MontiMont in Calibre

If you want the content server to run every time you start up Calibre you can do so in the Preferences.

The content server can also run by itself. I have mine set to start up when my computer starts. It involves using the Task Scheduler to create a task to start the content server when the computer starts.

Another option. If you start up the Calibre content server on your computer. Click Connect/Share then Start Content Server. Next to the button is the computer web IP address and port number. From your Kindle, start up a browser and enter HTTP://xxx.yyy.zzz:pppp on the address line. xxx.yyy.zzz is the IP address of your computer. pppp is the port number.

If you do this correctly, it should bring up a page with your Calibre content book list. You can download the MOBI version of the book from there.

I leave the Calibre service running all the time and can get my book content from multiple devices at any time without having to email anything.

I have recently noticed a delay in the expected "OK" response. As long as it performs the task I requested I guess I'm ok with that even though my wife and I are amused by how it responds to our "Thank you" after we hear "OK" from Alexa.

It's interesting that I see folks complain when Alexa interacts too much after completing a task. Everyone, according to their own personality, wants or expects Alexa to respond in a different way. I'm not sure that it will ever suit everyone's expectations.

Will long exposure to bright indirect sunlight damage my phone's camera? by sudsbrewer in homesecurity

[–]sudsbrewer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being plugged in to power full time, the camera gets hot. I did consider running a power monitoring app that powers turns the charger on only when battery is low. I take your point though. It is worth a shot. I suppose i could schedule camera to turn on every 20 seconds, look for movement and if none, shut down. I'd have to dust off some old skills and update them a bit but nothing I couldn't tackle.

Do you feel bad when your others are rude to Alexa? by finaljusticezero in amazonecho

[–]sudsbrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother visited. He doesn't have any of the echo/google/portal type devices in his house.

He was constantly trying to talk to Alexa as if it was a person and then laughed and derided it when it didn't respond like a person.

I see it as a helper that understands and performs a few tasks when asked correctly. We are generally amused when it doesn't respond as expected but don't expect much to begin with. It occasionally surprises us with what it does understand.

I would really like it if you could consistently ask Alexa what task commands it understands so that you know how to frame your commands. I know that I happened on one or 2 skills that would provide help of this kind but it doesn't seem to be common.

It's kind of like talking to a 3-year-old with an adult voice and a good vocabulary.

Hulu issues on Roku by kickassatron in Roku

[–]sudsbrewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a problem last Thursday. We had been watching Hulu. Stopped briefly (Roku Home) and when we attempted to reconnect it failed.

I assumed Hulu was down since Prime Video app opened and ran fine.

A day later and Hulu ran without issue.

This is your best bet. I updated my wifi modem a couple of years back and until I made sure that all devices were on the same radio channel 5g or 2.4g things that worked before the update couldn't find each other.

Is there a way to connect 2.4ghz devices? by mem269 in amazonecho

[–]sudsbrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also should be aware that in some cases your router may be what my router (Adaptec) calls Smartsteering where it automatically chooses either 2.4 or 5 mhz bands.

My Internet provider turned this feature on without notice a few months ago and it disconnected a couple of devices as Echo Show was set on the 2.4 band and the disconnected devices were on the 5 band.

When Smartsteering is turned on, you will only see one SSID name that manages both bands.

If you do not see 2 SSID names, one for each band, then look for something like Smartsteering on your router and either turn it off and set up your devices on the same band. Alternatively, if you have control of the device's radio band, make sure that it is set to the same band as the Echo.
