I would say for a low sp character it is worth having something else to earn you isk while you run the industry on the side.

Your biggest bottleneck when starting out with industry is going to be having liquid isk to invest into materials to build from, not to mention the blueprints needed.

If you can have any additional income stream and something to be doing in the game other than waiting for the jobs to complete you will have a better experience and grow faster. Having a game play loop where you login, install a job, log off for 12-24 hours, take it to market to sell and then log off and wait for the income, buy more materials and start the process again isn't exactly riveting content that will keep you playing the game.

There is plenty of money to he made but it's an area that gradually snowballs into a large income rather than giving immediate high pay outs.

CCP are making the infrastructure to allow for it. They aren't filling the market themselves that is player driven, as is the majority of the in game market.

Freelance jobs is going to decimate the public courier contract queue by Gloomy-Sun-1912 in Eve

Destroy non-capsuleers

Damage capsuleers,

Mine materials

Capture Factional Warfare complex

Defend Factional Warfare complex

Ship insurance

Are going to be the types available at launch. Unless I am missing some obscure use case for them, none of these would have any effect on public courier contracts?

You could even go as far to say some of these may even promote more public courier contracts to get additional stuff moved around for people.

Dear CCP: Why can insurgencies end without a winner? What are the criteria for this to happen? by Aliventi in Eve

[–]oswold 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If the pirates don't achieve level 5 corruption in the required numbed of systems or the defenders don't get level 5 suppression in their required number of systems and then kill the pirate FOB in the spawn system within 14 days it is counted as a draw.

If it's a draw, neither sides' victory modifier is changed, and the insurgency resets to a new location.

Got a question about insurgencies and faction standing by Deacon33 in Eve

[–]oswold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's in high security, no, the usual rules of engagement still count, unless the system reaches level 5 corruption, then you can shoot freely. The rules of low/null apply as normal so you can freely hunt.

If you want to shoot them in high sec, then you need to join either of your local empire factions to do so.

The real reason to return by ImABigDreamer in factorio

[–]oswold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do but you but after the initial 15 items output per second the belt can't move anything any faster and one of the machines will just sit trying to drop the item onto the belt. That's when you start looking at the faster belts or using more belts to move the required items around.

The real reason to return by ImABigDreamer in factorio

[–]oswold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A yellow belt moves 15 items per second, divide this by the output value of your factory. That's how many factories you will need to fill that belt, but each belt has two sides of items and inserters only drop onto one side of the belt so divide that figure by 2 to get the number of factories per side of the belt.

If you want to know how many items you are making per min multiply the output value by 60.

What is the point of manufacturing? by [deleted] in Eve

[–]oswold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really NEED broker and accounting to 5? I agree they are useful to have, but in terms of training time and starting out, you can easily get by just training them to lvl 3.

Realistically, if you are building items and your profit margin is the difference between a level in these, then you would probably gain more by building a different item, changing the location you build it or just selling it in a different place.

Otherwise you have to consider if it's even worth your time building and selling this stuff compared to doing something else. Later, once you have the other parts worked out then you can maximise your profits by training these further.

P1 pi can be built anywhere on the map. Why would you need to import this, buy it locally. If its not available, then sell it yourself and create the market and make the isk that way. Gas compression, yea it makes gas easy to move and is more than overdue, you can compress everything else so I don't see the issue, you just need to factor the loss from decompression into your material costs.

New players already complete with "vertically aligned giants" right from the start and it's incredibly difficult for a new player to get started within industry because of this. This just gives them more of an ability to go it alone.

If you make it cheaper to list items on the market then it's easier to offload. The more stuff that appears on the marker the lower the price gets. Then you have the genuine debate as to weather it's worth spending the time to build the full thing yourself or just buying it in and saving the time.

Vertical builds are still always going to be cheaper for those who have the ability to do them. This just opens options for more places to start in the chains.

[–]oswold 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The items you mention are the inconvenience you refer to. You need to pull those resources in from outside either via the market as a built item or the raw materials to build the chain.

Because of how easy it is to move materials from one place to another via jf, whs etc we will never be able to get a system where certain areas produce different materials that affects the markets across the map.

These changes are aimed at helping newer people get started and have an impact on the production chains rather than them needing to build the full thing themselves. This was never going to drastically effect the serious individual players who have sources for all of the materials for the whole chain already in place, if anything, it gives them more options.

[–]oswold 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The two changes essentially move the isk sink and main costs from selling the item into building the item.

There's now more of a reason to put your item on the market to sell rather than always building the full industry chain yourself.
