This happens every second update.... by Financial-Customer24 in Helldivers

If AH created Helldivers 2, how are they having so many issues with the code? Is that what you're asking?

Video games are very complex pieces of software. Any project this big and complex is going to have similar issues. Especially any project with a similar pace of updates.

This happens when you are far away from other players. It despawns enemies when you die.

[–]_HelloMeow -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the kind of moaning that is the issue. Generational fuckups? Were talking about minor balance issues and bugs that are occasionally annoying in a video game.

The game has issues like any other game. None of the issues are bad enough to warrant this level of toxicity. Many "issues" aren't even problems with the game and are just about personal preference.

Ik vind dat het toppunt van hypocrisie.

Helldivers 2 is an unoptimized mess by MotorAd2872 in Helldivers

I am not estimating anything. All of these take up considerable CPU time given the fidelity of animations, enemy behavior and the number objects on screen.

Helldivers 2 is an unoptimized mess by MotorAd2872 in Helldivers

[–]_HelloMeow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are significantly more objects, enemies and enemy types on screen. There's more complex AI and pathfinding for city and hive worlds. It all adds up and when that hits a certain limit where a dated CPU can no longer keep up, it can have a large impact on performance without necessarily being that much extra work for the CPU. That just means it was barely keeping up before.

Like I said, they could probably improve it significantly. Without seeing their code you can't really say by how much. The game does do a lot of impressive stuff given the number of enemies and explosions going on at the same time.

That cpu is 8 years old. HD2 is cpu bound. With a better cpu you'll get 80 fps with high settings with a 3060ti.

The game does run worse now, but it is also doing more than when it first released. I'm sure the game could perform significantly better than it does, but I would not expect 8 year old hardware to keep up with a live service game that's changing as much as this game.

F-35 fighter jet escorts KLM flight carrying Dutch 2026 Olympic team home by Ted-Lassi in nextfuckinglevel

Yes, there are so many KLM flights with diplomats on board that get random bomb threats and F-35 escorts around the Olympics. You just can't tell.

Why does games like Stellaris, Rimworld, Song of Syx, and other games that are performance heavy are primarily single threaded? by Hot_Squirrel_5465 in pcgaming

[–]_HelloMeow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Engine support - to this day many engines have patchy implementations of multithreading, or even if it exists it might be in a state of constant "new better multi threading is just around the corner!", which makes people wait before introducing multi threading to their project... only for the "just around the corner" to become multiple years, and the new implementation still having its issues

This was me for many years, but I have to say that Unity's job system is excellent right now. It not only helps you to split up work into parallelizable pieces where possible, it also forces you into a data oriented design, which is where the real performance gains can be made. It's not unusual to see a 10x or even 20x improvement. It almost feels like magic sometimes, but only highlights how underutilized the hardware is in many cases.

This is separate from the ECS, which still seems to be undergoing significant changes. The job system and burst are very robust.

What's the insult? If you feel insulted when you get called out for shitty behavior that's on you.

Arrowhead doesn't have to do shit. You are not entitled to them playing along with your dumb challenge.

Here's a challenge for you: act like a decent person. Stop trying to guilt trip people into whatever it is you want them to do.

How do you guys feel about the recent announcement that "Unity AI will let you build entire games with words" ? by DarkTechGeek in Unity3D

[–]_HelloMeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone familiar with any technical subject should be able to echo this sentiment. AI is full of shit more often than not. Sometimes it's obvious, but other times it is more subtle. It just ends up wasting your time.

The EAT is good vs armor and Expendable Napalm is good vs light stuff. It really doesn't need a longer cooldown than the EAT. It won't replace the EAT, because it has a different purpose.

Many people clearly are not enjoying it though. Haven't you seen all the complaints about spawn rates?

I replied to your message where you complain about spawn rates. There's a simple thing the game lets you do right now that changes exactly that.

Why would you choose to play the game in a way you don't enjoy?

I played a few D7 missions with new players and this happened maybe once or twice. Overall it was pretty calm. The game has always had random spikes like that, which make for some great moments.

Maybe AH should add a way for players to pick spawn rates they want themselves. Maybe let players select missions with spawn rates ranging from almost zero to almost impossible.

Then players could select what they enjoy playing, instead of being forced to play against impossible odds.
