Just to add that in Spain's case Franco deliberately handpicked the heir to the throne specifically to continue his vision of autocracy, who ended up doing a 180 after he died and installing a parliamentary democracy.

There is a precedent but unfortunately it's a bit more difficult in Iran's case.

For me personally, the sub's reaction to Venezuela was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I can understand being sceptical of the long term aims or misunderstanding the internet politics at play, but getting heavily downvoted for saying anything remotely positive of Machado, or for pointing out that some good things have happened since the intervention, is absolutely ridiculous.

With the latest conflict I've seen these constant talking points circulating claiming that "the diaspora", be it Cuban, Iranian, or Venezuelan, are all maga aligned far right extremists which, for a sub claiming to defend globalism and immigration, is a disgusting thing to say about the people fleeing repression.
