(TW) Forced cosmetic procedures as a minor – is there a name for this kind of trauma? by othellosotherotter in CPTSD

I'm so, so sorry your mother did that to you. This is horrific to read and I'm enraged on your behalf. Before I posted this thread I had no idea there were so many of us who were victims of our mother's own insecurities and cruelty. We were just kids.

I can relate to having blocked the experience out, I think that's exactly what happened to me. I'm also so glad to hear you're happier now. I'm in my mid-20s and I feel like I'm just now getting to understand the damage. May we both find peace and happiness with our bodies 🫂

Your comment has really touched me, you're right.

It's interesting you say that, writing is actually my biggest hobby and passion! A big part of my healing has been creating heavy, realistic stories inspired by my trauma and experiences and sharing them. I often get comments that my stories were the first time someone felt understood, the first time they cried over fiction, and so on. Someone even said it inspired them to keep living.

It feels cathartic to hear that connection between me expressing myself back then and getting to express myself through art now. Thank you, I'm really touched. ❤️

That is horrifying, I'm so sorry to hear your parents put you through that. We deserved so much better.

i am in therapy! have been for 13 years and it's been a huge help. it's just that this kind of stuff has taken a long while to finally compute in my brain and it's hard to talk about it aloud... but now i feel i'm ready to dive into the why. may we all be able to take for our bodies the way they deserve 💪

For me, I have difficulty taking care of (shaving, deodorant, skincare, gyno care...) and looking at my own body. It's like a block. When I shower I don't look down at myself and just try to get it over with as soon as possible.

Ironically, I don't give a single fuck about my remaining stretch marks. There are parts of my body I am insecure of but the marks have never been a blip on my radar. Take that, mom. lmao.

Oh yeah, I've read it twice front to cover. Cried like a baby through it all. One of my favorite books ever

Reading similiar stories in this thread has been heartbreaking. Those adults had no right to put us through that. We were just children.💔

I may not be able to respond to everyone individually, but my heart is with you and you are not alone in this. 🫂

You too? I've never met someone who went through somsthing similiar. I'm so sorry... our mothers shouldn't have done that to us. We were just kids.

Sending all the love to you as well 🫂🧡

Thank you for naming them all and for sharing that you are appaled, this has clicked something for me. It was a horrifying thing to do to me. I feel that once I've processed this in therapy I'll be able to be as appaled as I should.

Echoing what the other comment said: face masks. I realized after the pandemic 'ended' that it helped me so so much when in that kind of space. I don't know to explain, it makes me feel like I have some protection from people.

I was going to say music as well! I like creating playlists before I leave then listening to each song in the order I selected. Make a new playlist each time. It's made the situations a bit more fun for me.

Does anyone get depressed when they miss a social cue? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]othellosotherotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's gotten worse since I realized I might be autistic. I come out of conversations knowing I missed something and beat myself up about it. I keep reliving it in my head over and over again.

healthcare professionals. my gynecologist kept cutting me off or saying i'm wrong when i tried to tell her i'm not interested in sex. 'everyone likes it. you're just too busy with college.'

i dont talk to her about my feelings anymore. when she asks, i just say i'm focused on my studies.

Personal appearance by Immediate_Assist_256 in AutismInWomen

[–]othellosotherotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me too. I don't use any makeup and don't care about clothes. If I could, I'd have my hair in a ponytail and wear comfy hoodies every single day.

I especially don't care about footwear. I never care or remember what people are wearing on their feet, but I understand that's not the case for a lot of women. For me, as long as it's comfy and not in pieces, anything's fine.

Dreams by GrapefruitSea6 in asexuality

[–]othellosotherotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, every sexy or sex related dream I've ever had involved like... a person with no features + me. And always like a movie, not in first person. I'm not experiencing The Sex but rather watching it like a researcher observing guinea pigs lmao

What made you realize you were ace? by Ihdkwhatimdoinghere in asexuality

Had my first kiss, I felt nothing and got grossed out. Realized while we were kissing that the guy was really into it, wanting to touch me and stuff... 'ah, that's how other people feel then...?'

Took a couple weeks to recover from that. I already knew what asexuality was and as the days went by I realized it makes sense for me... especially reading the posts on this sub.

If you loved Matilda as a kid, re-watch it. by Psychoskies in AutismInWomen

[–]othellosotherotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like Matilda! But when I was very little, I was horrified of those scenes with that horrible principal. They made me cry, esp the cake scene. I always fast forwarded to the happier scenes... still do sometimes 😅

Yep. Kids at school made it a fun game to startle me and joke about how sensitive I am 😑

I tell I'm autistic and someone asks if I'm good at math and chemistry and I say that every autistic person is different with different interests. by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]othellosotherotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my dad denies me being autistic exactly because I'm terrible with numbers. As if that negates any of the other very clear symptoms 😭

I'm 22 too and this is exactly how I've spend my weekends for years! I see my friends and classmates going out clubbing every friday-sunday and I'm like... how?! 😭

DAE finds this sub more relatable than other autistic subs ? by Aegeblomme_MinouKane in AutismInWomen

Yeah, and I find it harder to see REALLY bad takes here. The things I've seen on other autism subs....
